But that requires that the new cards are always better than the previous set's cards which is just pure power creep. I'd rather see an even spread of cards from every set in any given standard meta.

@@Fyrefrye not necessarily so. What if Standard rotated more often? If you were only playing with four sets in Standard, we'd see less power creep because we'd see less cards.

@@ebonezra8073 My point is that if the standard meta was primarily cards from the most recent set that means people are choosing to play them over the previous set's cards. This implies they are stronger or more synergistic than the previous sets. This is power creep and would be true regardless of how many sets are in standard. I will give you this, if standard had fewer sets this *would* bring its average power down but it would also exaggerate the issue of overtuned cards like Oko, genesis ultimatum, Uro, etc... With a lower cardpool it's harder to counter those cards or the decks they're put in.

@@Fyrefrye that's a good point. I suppose my point is more specifically: if Standard had fewer cards in it, the odds of seeing cards from the most recent sets would be higher. And if there were real powerful cards that were more noticeable, they'd be banned faster. Standard doesn't need to be "mini-modern," it can be a "royale" of the four newest sets- a tougher ban list with a vision to show off the newest sets as a whole- not just the best Mythics.

@@ebonezra8073 I just wish (naively) that we could return to the level of design that MTG had for over a decade that resulted in one or two standard bans EVER. Rather than the current "overtune and then ban just to fix the meta after a month or two of boredom."

I actually think its better without her. Doubling up on drain and card draw is nice, but having to wait a full turn versus the tokens Sedgemoor Witch gives you hurts. Witch also helps make Plumb and Village Rites more free and plays into the drain theme too with its ward, idk tho, both are good

I was gonna say, yes he would probably lose the enchantments, but Bloodchief's hits creatures *and planeswalkers* no? And he had plenty of health to castle hopefully into an answer.

Loved it, I really like decks were you gotta think out of the box, like when the right move is to spend your removal in your own creatures.

I highly recommend a couple Malakir Rebirths in this deck. They have amazing synergy with Plumb, as you can cast it on your witch in response to removal, then plumb your whole board and the witch comes back in and triggers off all the copies of plumb still

I wasn't gonna watch the video because I'm not into standard, but after that into you've got me hooked XD

This actually made me build my first ever Standard deck and I'm loving it! I slashed green for Witherbloom Apprentice and Dina Soul Steeper. I ended up cutting the Skyclave Shade and Bloodchief's Thirst to make room. You lose out on the repeatable body, but make up for it in more consistent life swings. I feel like Silversmote Ghoul is worth testing, but I don't know what to cut.

I love this. Might get back into Magic to play this deck at some FNMs this summer if I find a good store

In the description there's a link to the article which gives both a super budget and a no budget list. The no budget list is basically the same, except 4 awakenings for the extra recursion/land

i look at this and immediately ask: why no gray merchant with the card that gives 4 black devotion and is played as a 4 -of? similar question with ayara, with all the black tokens coming into play that would give some extra reach that doesn't require attacking

Another good budget deck-and I mean ultra budget-is Simic fractals/shapeshifters. Throw in some Mystic Reflection to make your opponents creatures and PWs come in as 0/0s.

Is Pest Summonings the best/most playable Lesson card? It seems that the plumb decks are common, 2 mana for 2 1/1's is the going rate for the effect, but 1 extra mana has the tokens have a death trigger and it's a card that doesn't take up a slot in the MD

Yes. Its fantastic with witch and ayara which isn't in this particular build but is very good with the pest tokens I think people haven't really tested the viability of lessons yet, but in various builds a few lessons can be quite good, environmental sciences is also quite strong

I think you summoned up the rate well. You need to take advantage of the two bodies and it's a great bonus if you can also take advantage of the lifegain triggers (such as with Dina). There are other lessons that work, but are more niche (Environmental Sciences, Academic Probation, the removal spells) or don't contribute as much to the gameplan (Inkling Summoning just as a 2/1 flying beater in White Aggro).

Why is seth not playing on the ladder? I feel best of three non-ladder you get a lot of rogue decks(which i do enjoy seeing other home brews) or variation decks. For example, the sultai yorion deck he played at the end had questionable cards in it. Quick edit: the reason i bring this up is because when im testing a deck or a variant, i do best of three non ladder because i dont take as serious

I’m wondering about that too. Shade is recursion, but with all the card draw I don’t know how much that matters. And having an on demand sac outlet is nice.

Another way to beat exile based sweepers could be playing snow lands and faceless haven in non-budget builds.

on Arena cards a lot of decks want like Bonecrusher or Lovestruck Beast are Budget cause most people already have them

I *WEEP* at all the misplays Seth committed with this deck. Also Seth: F2P players have trouble with Rare Wildcards. Intro Seth: this deck is a great budget build with Zero Mythics and *15* Rares.
