Yes, that’s accurate. Especially, from a kids perspective. Nowadays, the movie holds its own and is appreciated by many people.

Fun Fact: Stephen King was actually planning on starring in this film. But couldn't make it so, Jon Bruno had to take his place

As weird as this movie is, I can’t help but find myself actually enjoying it I mean, sure, it has some plot holes (that are now deleted scenes), but the stop-motion animation is very well done and the concept of the story is pretty interesting

This movie melted my mind when I was a kid! I used to catch parts of this movie on tv and it hypnotized me by how strange and nonsensical it was. I've never actually seen the whole thing and I forgot what it was called but now I'm going to see how it holds up.

@@CrazyFanaticMan Yes, this movie def holds up. It has developed a cult like following and honestly, this movie is one of my favorites. Yes it’s a little dark and twisted but it’s such a unique perspective on what a coma could be and the down town scenes are extremely immersive. This movie was just ahead of it’s time and that’s why it didn’t do so well.

Now that whenever I hear that line in the song, "gotta keep 'em separated," I can't get this trailer out of my thoughts. It's been 15 years and I still associate the two.

This movie is every kids first acid trip

for me, this is one of the best but wackiest works of Henry Selick, is a mind-bending adventure full of madness, fun, humor and with a abstract touch in his scenery, is almost a painting in the most bizarre style than a movie, for that is so original, a carnival of colors and feelings, in the middle of the nightmarish surroundings of the human mind, a crazy yet unforgettable film.

I used to love this movie so much as a kid

I can’t believe that for so many years I tried to find this movie and when I ask to people if they knew a movie like this and they looked at me like I was crazy, so I began to think that I might be crazy but it turns out to be real 😂😂 and seeing so many people in the comment section telling their similar stories about watching this movie as a child (I was probably 5-6 at that time) and being haunted by it makes me feel better and not finally not alone. Love you all guys, I think we have some kind of connection with this 😅

Ahh, that weird short period between the end of the 90s and 9/11. It actually almost felt like the new decade would be as exciting and promising as we'd hoped for rather than the disaster it turned out to be. The bizarre nature of this film (I haven't seen it btw) is probably a reflection of the zeitgeist of that short period.

Stop motion master Henry Selick was the one who directed the Nightmare Before Christmas, while Tim Burton was the one who came up with the idea but he couldn't direct it since he was busy with other projects.

I watched this when I was younger and could never remember the name of the movie, I've been trying to remember for years and only now just found it!

I only just unlocked the films name in my memory after seeing someone sculpt a man-couch! I honestly thought I dreamt up this film, saw it as a kid a few times but my adult mind thought it was my obsession with stuff like invader zim etc and the mummy that mixed together.

*FUCK ME WHAT A HILARIOUS MEMORY!* I remember we were at high school living at a random house we rented just to hang out with friends, we rented this movie on VHS, go chips and soda and we were ready to watch the latest movie released, as soon as it started, one of our friends said: "*WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT! A COW IN A SYNTHESIS IMAGE THAT MOVES!"* we died laughing our asses and we just had to stop the movie because it was terrible, luckily we had a bunch of other movies and we ended up watching Blair Witch 2 that was released a year earlier I guess, I miss those times!

I always thought I accidentally took acid as a kid but nope… here I am twenty years later with this flashback in my head and googling “weird monkey movie.” At first I thought it was the mask…

My mom and I saw this at Hemet Cinema when it first came out. There was literally one other person in the theater there with us. I enjoyed this film, as dumb as it was.

Am I the only one who actually realised that the plot of Pixar’s Soul basically is the plot of this movie but just told infinitely better? Think about it: a guy who is just about to achieve his dreams in life (Cartoonist/musician) suddenly ends up in a coma and gets transported to a world where souls wait before they either live or die. Then he meets this quirky new character who eventually ends up in the main character’s body back on Earth and goes through shenanigans in the process. I hope I’m not the only person who realises all these similarities.
