Finally picked this up, since it was only 19.99 in France. I've been a fan of Laphroaig for a few years and at first I was a bit underwhelmed by it (obviously due to being used to the strong smoke flavour) but now I'm starting to appreciate it. It's not a very complex whisky, but the flavors it does have, are very pronounced and balanced.

Greeting Horst and thank you for the review. I was sitting outside yesterday and going through whiskies in my local bottle shop website and as I filter the result price low to high, this whisky came up first and I was thinking what kind of silly name is that. This morning I got notification from KZread about your new review and when I saw you are reviewing this whisky I was so shocked. I have never had this but definitely will buy ot soon.

I'm delighted that, given your level of expertise, you really liked this whisky, as so many "purists" would look the other way. It was my go-to several years ago before I really started enjoying American bourbons. I just might have to revisit.

Monkey Shoulder is my preferred moderately priced blended scotch, but it's nowhere near as complex as this review suggests. It's pretty simple, it's relatively smooth and most importantly it doesn't do anything wrong. That's it! Easily worth the $30 it costs here. OK already. Perhaps my pallet isn't that sophisticated. I'm very happy with Monkey Shoulder, that should be OK with you. :)
