Love her honesty especially at the end. Good stuff!
Her using an ambient mic for one of the players makes me think about our monitor engineer on Martina McBride created some in ears when he was working for Bette Midler called “open ears”. It has a high frequency driver only and the rest of the ear canal is open for wedges and ambient noise. Gives the singer the openness of using wedges and not feeling closed in, and the high frequency driver provides detail for pitch.
Emily is Awesome. I sat watching this with my assistant Jaden who is one of the most focused and professional engineers I have met without whom I would find my work life much harder. This interview reinforced the point that it doesn’t matter if you are a woman, man or non-binary ….. you will get to where you need to be if you maintain professionalism, enthusiasm and a hunger to be the best you can be. Getting a good start in your career with fellow professionals will build confidence and allow you to make the mistakes you need to grow. A really inspirational interview with a true professional. Nick - you are doing great work on this channel.
as a female, beginner engineer, this was the most important video of yours to date. thank you
Nick. Watched the entire thing.... so informative and insightful. You are providing such great value !
Just gotta say I'm loving these videos! Love getting into the minds of sound people and their work flow.
Nick! you have been really pushing out content 🐐
This was a great interview thanks. Eeeeeemmily is fab and love her content on IG as well.
Outstanding!
Hi ! Awesome interview :). Here's a tip for you ! Catch up with Sabaton and their very friendly and funny monitor engineer Anna Källström. They will go on US tour from the 18th of April :)
Phenomenal interview. Emily's a fantastic engineer. Lets makes space! More female engineers need some focus in this. Thanks for another great video Nick
Nick, I am a huge Blue October fan. I liked this one a lot!
By far, the best live gigz content on youtube....👌👌👌
IM CURRENTLY IN THE UNION FOR AUDIO ! AND IN SCHOOL....VERY GLAD I CAME ACROSS THIS! WOULD LOVE TO TALK TO MS. PEARCE
Holy Moly !!!!
Paying attention; I agree with that 100%. I think it's especially important if you're mixing monitors from front of house. I've seen many people get caught up in the vibe of the show, and miss requests being made by the musicians. I've dropped the ball with that myself too.
I will say, it nice to see another marine in the engineer field. It’s nice to know I’m not crazy and living on an island on my own. I enjoy seeing the tips and tricks, even the military ones that I can take to get to the same place that she is.
She seems like a rad person to talk gear and kick it with. Very chill and personable type, as well as knowledgeable. Always refreshing to see on the crew

If rad means whore then you're correct
Thank you for what you are doing, it is very important)😊
You’re killing brother! Really enjoy this. She has a great attitude. One thing I would love to know for the monitor engineers is what ears these use and why. Maybe I’m the only one who cares about that 😂
Awesome work, Nick! Really appreciate your content! Do you think it would be possible to actually hear some of those monitor engineers' work sometime? Since virtual soundcheck has become common on those bigger setups, maybe some engineers could let us hear what their artists actually listen to on stage? Then again, there might be copyright issues or something, IDK... Anyway, keep up the amazing work!

agreed! I think why they don't is because of a copyright thing. I could (and most likely) be wrong
Bro, you have to try to book a spot with Slayer at one of the fests this year. I know it's harder if not almost impossible with fests, but worth a shot! Much love!
It would be really cool to have a video where a monitor engineer breaks down maybe tips and tricks to set for smaller monitor rigs, say for smaller bands
It’s refreshing to see a sound girl for a change,Great interview.
Omg I just did this show! Emily was so nice and talented. Tallest console position in the biz

This job needs more women!!! Great video. Thanks..😄
off topic...oooof is she gorgeous lol
Woah woah woah, most vocalists don't like compression in their ear? I sing so much better when I have it. I thought it was exactly like the reverb thing lol.

same. I always struggles with lower and softer notes just not being loud enough in my ears. And working the mic back and forth aint enough. When i took control of my own mix and ended up with 10db of compression with 4:1 ratio lol never felt or sounded better to me. Also, I think this is better for a FOH mix, from and engineers perspective I would much rather my vocalists keep the mic right on their lips whether belting it or singing softly. Let ME control your levels. Backing away from the mic changes the tonality and especially with female vocalists, losing that low end just makes the vocal harsher when belting it.

Obvious bad compression is usually when singers bark up about it. Transparent quick compression is my go to for vocals and no one ever complains. I compress everything in iem mixes.
Emily is awesome

The ISM package she mentions is the Shure PSM 1000 System. The band wears 64 Audio customs.
