ive got the bronze BR1 bookshelves (best ones) the mids are really good so is the treble, deep bass should always be left to a subwoofer.

thanks for sharing, I have Monitor Audio silver 1, bought in 2004, we do see some refinements made during the years, my contacts plastic cup resonated at some frequencies, I had to dampen it with plastiline and gun shots, I do not see any inside bracing, and dampening of the baffle, do I ask for too much?? a 25 pounds improvement!

It's because of the single bolt going through acts as a bracing but also mount the driver to the front baffel

You said that Z2300 can be used for all purposes, But it have lack of high frequency . JBL control 1 pro is good for accurate bass but lack of deep bass :( JBL Control 1 pro + Z2300 subwoofer , Is it a good idea ? Will Z2300 available in 2018?

thanks for posting. for the folks wigging-out about a 3 ohm driver. the nominal impedance, at the terminals, is eight. imo, the cone shape used in the midbass driver increases treble response, which is not needed when a well-matched tweeter is used. its, probably, also the reason the rated low-frequency response is 55 hz. for a surround speaker, its ok. but, i would not buy a speaker with that cone shape. cheers

I like the looks, I like the construction but I don't like the fact that it has a 3ohm woofer. I could understand it if it was in a dual woofer setup and you ran them in series to hit 6ohms but in a single driver setup you're just asking for trouble. Even with resistors in series with the driver you still run the risk of the impedance dropping below 4ohms and lots of modern HT gear can't cope with anything going below 6ohms anywhere but on main channels.

this speakers not intended for multimedia receivers. I hate receivers, for movies and multimedia those is okay. But for music always I love clean, simple integrated stereo amplifier, who can work quietly 4ohm and little lower.

I wouldn't keep such amplifier that can't handle 3ohm speakers. Had one and I'm glad it's gone. My current amplifier can handle 2ohm load easily and smoke these speaker without a sweat. And no, it's not a car amp, it's a DIY home amp.

As far as i know on most amps you can go as low as 2,7 Ohms. Or you just got a bad amplifier.

Synthematix WRONG, it was the primary speaker stuffing material before polyfill. You can't simply replace it in speakers that came with it with polyfill. You'll usually need more poly full to get it to perform like fiberglass. The same stuff is often used to line HVAC ventilation systems. It is nothing like asbestos. Sure it'll itch if you handle it. But the fibers are long. Health risks from fiberglass are unsubstantiated internet claims.

It has been fixed inside with Little screws(behind the tweeter) into the wood

Of course these MA sound better, but in home cinema rear surround speakers not main feature natural, full frequency response sound, surround speakers are more for effects sounds, no need spend extra money to change control 1 to MA your system.

For the price and the performance of these speakers, I don't see why people are calling it cheap. I mean, what more do you want from a speaker at this price point? Monitor Audio needs to profit somehow lol.

IMO these speakers and the whole BR series can produce decent sound quality with realtively cheap materials and components as the result of many coreect computer simulations and engineering.

I disagree, they sound absolute pants. But I've only been designing and building speakers (also worked in the commercial sector) for 40+ years. There's very little thought gone into these. I could knock up something better in my lunch break ... but that could be said of 99.9999% of commercial speakers. Companies like MA aren't in it for the love of music or R&D, they're in it for straight profit, and it shows in their products i.e. they're commercial garbage pushed on the populous by 5 Star reviews from the likes of what hi-fi who also have a soul commercial purpose. .... What I am wondering is how you got the drivers out? I paid just £100 brand new from a brick n mortar shop. The build quality seems pretty good from what i see.

I don't like nor do I use iron core chokes...air core

thats one thing i hate about hi end speakers including my dali icon all that hard work and they put cheap wires inside. dont they know most buyers are not going to connect expensive speakers with cheap cables i use QED genesis silver spiral speaker cables

These speakers are so compact, but sound very nice :)

The thing with speakers is, every company tunes them (by ear) differently , yet they are all "HiFi" so you really have to listen to them in your room , with your preferred music, the dealers room acoustic is often highly tuned so in your home these wonderful sounding speakers can be a real and costly disappoint. An even more some "dealers" trick there customers by secretly running a passive sub woofer in the background, no wonder you here no bass at home!

because in long lengths the cable has to be thicker to carry the signal properly, the wire inside speakers is ultra low impedance

very cheap, iron core inductors and resisters. internal speaker wire are cheap as well. A $300.00 DIY MTM build would beat this hands down.

Monitor probably bare spent an afternoon designing these. Entry level speakers do not get the attention and refinement that flagship speakers get. If you're so certain (since you must be an owner), make a video and post your sweeps.

Plastic woofer looks very cheap.

this is not a girl but a speaker! You need to listen to the sound and you'll be pleasantly surprised how well they sound from so compact size.

Yeah I have a Kef q300 and the driver is superb, but the internal cables are very low cost and the crossover, just average. Now I change the cables (silver plated cooper norstone) and mundorf aluminium evo oil and mundorf MOX resistors, the sound quality now is another level. And no expensive job

2:53 finger presses on one. If it is bullet shape it should not move with diapragm of speaker. And on this speaker it is just phaseplug shaped dustcap. Which dont do anything good like real plug does. I dont get why they make it in shape like this. It makes think that they want people to think it is really driver with phaseplug and more expensive.

+Valtra103 I do not think, that it bad think. It dustcap is more for better design, speakers for this price are with amazing sound performance. I also have multimedia speakers Logitech Z3e, which have phaseplugs on satellite speakers - this phaseplugs absolutely nothing mean! Primary key is total speakers sound performance, not one driver technology! Speakers sound made many important parts: drivers, analog crossover, speaker box.

Yes, i agree. I just like when form folows function. I just was expresing my opinion. I just don't like things that imitate something. I don't say that they sound bad. I never heard them. And logitech sounds bad because it is 2.1 speakers with too small drivers. So subwoofer made to play way too high. Phaseplugs help to remove dustcap resonances and improve high frequencies. Most likely they would sound worse without them.

Cheap garbage. 3ohm speaker will load you amplifier like hell.

I saw your misfortune (broken basket). I agree that the basket was too thin on your MR speakers. But the more recent MA speakers have a sturdier basket, here is an example : 6moons.com/audioreviews/monitoraudio/7.jpg - The Bronze BX, Silver RX, etc. and more recent speakers have this kind of thick basket which should not break easily. A good plastic basket is not a bad thing, it is non-resonant and sturdy enough for the task.

WRONG these speakers are actually very very good, and very balanced sounding, very clean in sound from 55hz right upto 20khz, they have a rather flat response, some people dont like this, but if you want accurate uncoloured sound its the best way.
