    I just got a Honda Super Cub and they use a similar fob to know when you're near the bike. Now I kinda wish it had a tracker built in too, that would have been the ultimate security.

    I have the original monimoto. over a year old now and battery still shows half so my advice is bury it well. Then when you come to your routine service once a year, just add an extra half hour to remove a few bits and bobs to be able to change its batteries. no real hardship and the device works an absolute charm. I keep my fob in my motorbike jacket pocket so its always with me

    It would be better you hide it on your bike, somwhere the service dudes won't check. And do it without witness. Unless the mechanic is your dad, brother, or brother in law, then nobody else should have a faint idea where is the tracker.

    I’ve got the previous gen Monimoto and I’m very happy with it. It strikes a good balance between cost, convenience and security. Of course a thief might find the tracker on your bike and then it’s easy to remove but as it’s quite discrete I’d think a lot of opportunists wouldn’t spot it. It’s also easy to swap between bikes if you buy a new bike.

    I've been using it for a year now and it is very simple to use. The downside was trying to find any possible hiding place for the unit on my bike, there was just no easy place to hide it. However the tracker does react to movement so it would still activate if they found it and threw it away. Also its currently not Thatcham approved so it doesn't give you any disocunt on your insurance. Does it work? Yes. My parked bike got hit my a stupid white van driver and I was round the corner when I got the phonecall and my monimoto app went off, plus the bike alarm went off. The alerts got me back to the bike a minute or so after and the locals actually got the van driver to come back. If I didnt have Monimoto, I wouldn't have realsied the alarm was mine and wouldnt have returned to my bike for probably another 30-45 mins. Its an affordable good device and see it in more shops now but I hope in the next version they can get Thatcham approval. Nice honest review Motobob

    I put my fob on my keys, I park my bike at a parking lot or on a street far away, so it's convenient for me not to forget it and the bike arms and tracks if needed. Thefts where I live happen when it's parked on the side of the road or carpark (yoinked into the a back of a van). So I'm not ever concerned about someone stealing my keys and it not activating the tracker

    I’ve had the previous version a couple of years now and would say they work quite well. Alerted me recently on holiday when a hotel staff member moved my bike in the car park for example. I combine mine with an Apple AirTag which gives a more accurate location and is a lot easier to hide. Wonder if the new version responds quicker? The old model is a little slow at making the call I find. Otherwise a great device for added security.

    How accurate is the pinpoint of location after theft ? A couple of feet, B ten feet, C 50 foot. The larger the inaccuracy of pinpoint the least use it is. Have you got some one to move your bike hide it then you try and find it. That would be useful info. Cheers Marc

    How about a dual setup? Military and prepper community always advice to be redundant, so I'm thinking having both a hard wired device in a semi obvious place (not so obvious, but being the easyer one to find) and also the battery operated device hidden much better elsewhere. Of course, adding other levels of security like caliper mounted inmobilizers, a chain, a throttle+break lock and maybe even a clutch lock are ways of making it so inconvinient to steal that it will be bypassed for annother bike that has no security devices. I do have 2 anker points on my bike to run a heavy dutty hardened steel chain into the ground for when it sits at home, I have a chain to take my bike out and secure it into a structure in a parking spot (can be a post, a rail, a tree, the truck of a friend etc). I run a caliper mounted rotor inmovilizer on both wheels and I'm about to pull the trigger on the brake n throttle lock plus 2 gps tracking devices

    Depends if you want a do-it-all devices that has loads of extra fun features, but it's got to be wired in so it's easy to find if someone does steal your bike. Or if you want to go the monimoto route which just does its one core purpose really well, which is to be hidden and then let you know if your bike gets nicked. Like I say in the video if you're someone who loves to check the status of your bike 5 times a day then the Monimoto isn't designed to do that

    As someone who has two motorcycles stolen I can appreciate these devices could mean for recovery. Unfortunately many police where I live are not interested in following up on anything but violent crimes. So unless you are willing to steal your own bike back from the criminals there isn't much of a reason to put trackers on. When criminals know there is little chance that anyone will bother looking for them they are encouraged to keep doing it.

  • @motobob

    @motobob

    While I agree that the police might be unlikely to do much, I've known a few people manage to get their bikes back because of a tracker. Sometimes just ditched in a car park or side street. For the chance you might have to avoid the whole insurance process and costs, for me it's worth a punt.

  • @1zanglang

    @1zanglang

    10 ай бұрын

    Yes. You must solder the wire to battery terminals in the monimoto. Then drill a small hole into the cover for the wire. To connect it to the bike battery, you would need a DC step down converter to dim the voltage from 12 to 3 volts. This tiny device can be found on any electronics online shop. It has a potentiometer which help you adjust the output voltage. The only thing you should do is to wrap it in something waterproof, as it comes usually without case. The input connects to bike battery, using an fuse. That fuse value must be lower than the max amps the converter allowes. The main issue is that wiring and the connection with bike battery can be spotted by thieves. And as precaution they could remove the bike battery, which would make your tracker useless. So, to conclude, the best solution is to use the tracker as it is, but think more where can you hide it, to make it hard to find, and reasonably accessible since you should replace batteries once a year, just to be sure.
