Reminds me of my situation, I got sentenced to 4 years in prison in 2015 and I told my dude to move on....he did all of my time with me. I got out of prison July of 2018 and were still together. November will be 9 years we've been together. It's men out here that will hold a woman down too💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 ****UDATE***** it’s 7/23/23 and we’re still holding on! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Ohhhjj ok it’s 2/20/24 and the ACE TO MY SPADE ♠️ IS STILL ROCKING! 😘🫶🏽🌹

I waited 13 years, made sure he was straight. Went to school and got a degree in nursing. Now he, our kids, and I,are happy and settled. 3 in college, 1 in the navy. Wasn't thinking about another man, I was focused on our kids and future. I'm now months away from graduating with my master degree. Now, were happily married. 17 years and counting. Must of her songs and videos are references of a life with the boyfriend in jail. That's just my take on it and she's always visiting down here in New Orleans. Real beautiful down to earth woman. This reminds me of how my mom rode for my dad when he was locked up in prison back in 1987 until they released him in 1994. He got my mom pregnant his first month out of prison and married my mom in 1995 and had me that same year.They known each other since they were 17 years old back in 1982.

I listened to the lyrics instead of just getting caught up in the emotional sentiments of the video, and some things she said are alarming. It doesn't always end up happily ever after for "ride or dies" who give more than they get out of their relationships. I've seen aunties like that end up broke and destitute to the point of being homeless taking care of a man who wouldn't and/or couldn't help provide and/or was incarcerated or other less favorable situations; I saw some end up broken, angry, feeling cheated, and bitter. Watching so many BW get so little for all their sacrifice giving them the reputation of being the women for "struggle love" to go to when you're down and out, because they supposedly have little to no standards for men, showed me the error in always putting others, especially your men, before yourself not even knowing if he'd do the same for you if the tables were turned. It taught me from observation to have standards for myself and my man so I wasn't taken for granted or used. It should teach us not to end up just another Bernadine from Ready to Exhale. Love should be reciprocal in every way and not all one-sided loyalty with her always the one ending up with the short end of the stick. Just my dose of reality to add a different perspective.

I was there before

Monica is proof that you can love someone with intellectual love but if your heart is not in it neither will your soul be committed. Her love for C-Murder was in her heart, which transferred to her soul. She is willing to wait for him, her desire to stay faithful and her emotions to love him at his best or worst is powerful. Clearly somethings happened and she tried to love her exhusband. That was intellectual love “because we have kids” or “we have good times” or “he makes me feel”… but PURE SPIRITUAL love is a love that is not intellectual. It is pure and it survives the worst of the moments and rises like a radiant of light into the divine purpose God created it for. ❤

Even if this song is about C murder or not, she made the song for a reason. Monica is a ride or die, she is almost in the same situation with C murder rightnow and that girl hadn't gave up not one day. She stayed by his side no matter the circumstances❤️

Monica has a timeless voice and music. I always thought this song was about C Murder and her still being there after he got locked up

It is said that she recorded this song in 2001. She only briefly dated C-Murder for a short time up til his incarceration in 2003. Her After the Storm album is seemingly a response to the tragedy she faced in 2000, after witness the suicide of her ex boyfriend Jarvis Weems. I think this song has nothing to do with C-Murder, as it has more to do with her relationship with Weems
