Speaking as a wildlife conservationist from Zimbabwe, Banded Mongooses are absolutely amazing animals. I work part time at Bumi Hills, Lake Kariba with my father's anti-poaching unit. We have been extremely fortunate to raise four Banded Mongooses ( two girls and two boys ) from young ages and watched them interact and reintegrate with our local wild troop. Our two females have already had a number of litters with the wild males. They are the most affectionate, loving and sweet little creatures you can possibly think of. However, they are not pets and are free to come and go when they please. Grateful for this video. Made me think of them.

I imagine the males go between colonies to some extent. If they did all have separate litters how would the would they be able to tell if a mongoose is their dad or granddaughter or whatever because they would all smell different, This way they all have the same sent

They're smart as hell to birth exactly when the alpha female is giving birth. So does that mean those other females mated on the same day as the alpha female 😂

My sister knew someone who had one as a pet, free range It probably helps with the rats but I'd never keep them because I enjoy birds.
