They may have met because the Monarch's henchmen mistook Gary for a Colorado senator and kidnapped him when he was 13, but they (now) have a relationship built on trust and mutual respect. Also the Monarch swings and was cool with Gary fucking his wife. Truly, enlightened eskimo brother is the strongest bond.

"Madre de dios!" "God can't help you now, Dieciseis!" I love that the Monarch calls him by his number in Spanish because he clearly speaks Spanish.

Given what we've seen of Guild operations and how all-inclusive their support network is, I wouldn't be surprised if there are drill instructors around. Hell, Killinger basically did that for the Monarch once. But as we know, Malcolm is bad with money and doesn't make the wisest investments.

Love this dramatization of what the Monarch would like if he were to actually be a level 10 villain. With all the refined details of ideas mentioned before in past seasons. Like monarch's new power suit, Gary being his #2, the suits Gary wanted for the henchmen, and probably even having Manolo join the ranks too which I thought was cool little funny detail. I love this show much !

I'd love to see the Monarch get to this point if they ever revive the series. He's put in so much work over the years and is unironically a brutal villain, he deserves it

Note that he originally was calling him 21 before he corrected himself and called Gary #2. It's pretty nie since it shows how much the two have grown closer and the trust Monarch puts in him.

Actually it was sooner than that! I think it was season 4 or 5, after 22 death and he became more muscular, one of the henchmen in their bar mention that 21 has become more compentant that Monach did promote him to number 2 but he still refered himself as 21!

In the next scene, Monarch flat out tells Dr Z that 21 is his number 2, and not a henchman despite the name

"GOD CAN'T HEAR YOU DIEZ Y SEIS!" (sixteen in Spanish) that's awesome, I wish he was a real henchmen cuz the monarch seems to genuinely care about his minions to the point he remembers there numbers.

Slicer89 Now I think about it, Monach wasn't there when they were offering the reward (therefore he wasn't expecting the said rewards) but still, it was a dick move but yet again they are villains! Also with that in mind, why did Red Death help them in the first place when killing him would had given him a seat? I guess he liked Monarch more than the promotion?

With Red Death it might be because he sympathizes with the Monarch. Like the flashback from Gargantua 1 he was talking about being low-level villains trying to make it big and now he is. He understands the Monarchs obsession with wanting to get higher up.

Red death didnt really feel bad for the monarch more that just didnt need or want the reward, he was happy with his position and the time it gave him with his family and I doubt he would give that up for more rep than he already had.

True, especially since he spends a lot of time with the fam. it might also explain why he wants to be on the council i.e. when you're in charge you get to make you're own hours.

I like how he basically used Menolo's home improvement crew as elite henchmen in this day dream

First it was phones, then plutonium, then handy dandy.

The most obvious sign that this isn't real, of course, is Gary not immediately geeking out over having an actual working lightsaber built into his gauntlet. Monarch acts like he knows him SO well...

the thing i love the most is the cocoon, its so beautiful and intimidating, but its also still a cocoon, but most likely the later stages right before it breaks, and most likely would include a secondary look as it transforms into a butterfly perhaps to lose damage or somethign

21 is nerdy even in his fantasy. Meaning no matter what, he doesnt want him to be any different

I love how much work they put into the new coccoon, only to refuse to make it canon time and again I also love how he's bringing back the deaths head panoply

That's my point, in the past he wouldn't give two shits about his henchman, he even bought a monarch goblin glider even though they claimed they didn't have the funds to upgrade the henchman's gear. But in his fantasy, which gives us a good look at what he thinks now, he sees henchman 21 as his number 2, his wife as a lovely fairy, and looks like someone who has henchman worthy of his praise and admiration instead of contempt and being disposable.

Oh, and you've got to love that Wilhelm scream at 0:14.

I wish more villains were characterized like this. He's a bad guy, but it comes from a place of snide vanity. He doesn't murder his crew for no fucking reason and actually has an alright work relationship with Gary. He'd probably be a really good president, definitely less corrupt than what we usually get

I just realized that’s a more lightweight version of the death’s head suit from the season 3 finale. The subtle continuity in his show is spectacular.
