Not only is Mompou's music wonderful...his playing is some of the most beautiful piano playing ever ! Gracies!
This music is so introspective and esoteric, very much to my taste. It is also imbued with a tragic, meandering, yet improvisational sense, sometimes giving way to joy and playfulness; all of which I greatly appreciate. I could listen to this wonderful performance all day or all night, as I am doing now. Thank you for this impressive, historical post!
A bunch of years ago I purchased this exact box on the Brilliant Classics label. Mompou was totally unknown to me and it was a blind buy at the time when audio samples hadn't quite yet hit the internet, at least they weren't available for this release. I just had a feeling from what little I had read about Mompou that I would dig his music, and I prefer to hear any composer performing his own works, even though other critics had said that there were other interpretations they preferred of this music by other pianists. Well after getting this CD box I certainty was not disappointed and the CD still stays close by to me here at home-even though I have thousands of CDs in my collection in total. The box is great, takes up very little space and (as you can see) has wonderful cover art. 4 CDs in cardboard slip cases with a really beautiful booklet. I wish all releases were done like this, the box doesn't even take up much space at all. This is the way to release this type of music and Brilliant Classics is the version of this music to own. Just out of curisity I looked to see if the music was up here on KZread. Yes, my Cds are right here but it's just so easy to play them here on KZread and all the better that I can also hear it from any computer now, even when i'm not home. Heck, I can even have this playing on my Chromebook laptop now when i'm in the kitchen or garage. So thanks for making this music available online, Brilliant Classics-I still will never part with my CD version though and I suggest others who love this music to support the label by picking up the wonderful physical CD box set of these wonderful recordings. -Gary

True, Gary....an invaluable treasure trove.....Greetings from México!
This music is so pure. After listening to this I realize that so much music leaves me feeling like I have been weighted down with heavy larded food. This leaves me feeling like I consumed pure oxygen and my soul feels rejuvenated. I feel like I could lie down and listen to this in a semi-dream state on the roof of an adobe dwelling for a hundred years and just leave behind the cacophony of life.

Very well said!
Colorful, sensitive, evocative, delicate and yet strong. Love it.
This isn't so much beautiful music as it is a set of soothing sounds of nature. Purely elemental.
Frederic Mompou is the perfect performer for his own work! Fantastic album! I can't stop listening to this music. Thanks a lot for this upload!
hearing Mompou play these pieces himself is a true gift. thank you!
A very great contrast to our current Times. This music is in NO HURRY. Therefore, soothing.
Una joya de la musicología del siglo xx, a la cual nunca habíamos tenido acceso, Gracias Mil......!
A new composer for me. Feels like familiar tunes at different tempos, with pauses & musical comments.
Belíssimo Compêndio Musical, Sublime Artista. Bravo, Maestro!
Thank you for this Mompou' s track list...wonderful composer!!!
Vladimir Jankelevitch was right: Mompou is one of the greatest composers of the 20th century.
C'est magnifique, formidable.
I wonder what instrument he used for these recordings. It might take some time for a modern listener to adjust to its sound since we are generally so used to modern Steinways’ bombastic timbre. But I personally find this piano’s sound so intimate, refined, somewhat chamber-like even, as though Mompou were playing his home upright for his friends. I do regret this sense of intimacy is all but absent in today’s piano performance culture.
01:28:45 Cançons i danses (1921-1962): VI. (1942) - so lovely
music poetry played by the poet himself
Amazing album recorded by himself. This kind of lux not always coming to enjoy.
Thank you
extraordinario
Very glad I stumbled on this - really really good. The piano reminds me of Satie, Debussy and Messian but this is not in any sense clumsy imitation. It stands up for itself despite being influenced by these other composers. Be interesting to know if Mompou did other pieces not solo piano or whether like quite a few composers the piano was what he/she focused on.
This is wonderful 💘👀🧠
gracias
Great music also for Guitar
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh goooooooooooood in the begining oh my goooooooooooooooooooooooood
wat heel erg mooooi,dank
entre sus obras para piano están:impresiones intimas:escenas de niños;cantos mágicos;pesebres: suburbios; canciones y dansas ;fiestas lejanas ;charmes ;preludios ;variaciones tema de Chopin; Música callada;
Cuando lo escuché pensé que era chopin , si te pones a escucharlo sin saber q compositor es , tú al escuchar su manera y su estilo de tocar , fácilmente lo confundes con chopin ,para mi mompou es el chopin de España , en muchos sentidos
I want this CD.

His compositions have the essence of the catalan sadness, nostalgic, goodness, and simplicity. It's a very autocton music. And very universal also. Maybe, yes, he is like a catalan Satie, but very landly.

I 'll never understand why each "Collected Works" of any composer, never respect the chronological order of the compositions... Which is the point to mix so arbitrarily the diverse years, stlyes and moods of the composer...

While most collections are chronological, a thematic sequence (for example, all of Chopin’s ballades as a group, all the mazurkas as a group, etc.) might make sense.

Ennui mortel!
I appreciate the miniature format, but they all sound too much alike. The same meandering, mopey, opaque style for 4-5 hrs (for the most part)
I'm not feeling it. The musical space feels restricted, void, lacking in cohesion. Then again I came here for something similar to the works of Debussy. I can understand why people would say it's similar.. but this stuff sounds more impressionistic and less.. whatever you'd call what Debussy composed

Mompou does not aim to impress or impress upon. His work is a simple, passionate chant of life's beautiful harmonies. In many ways, he lets the piano play him as much as he is playing the piano.

Debussy was an "Impressionist" so....
It's seems more like someone that is learning how the keys of the piano works and hearing how they sound and randomly start pressing the keys of the piano. Nothing impresive about Mompou. If a regular person plays this somewhere, people will say, what the hell are you doing with the damn piano? Stop. Ohh but this is Mompou, be real. Don't overrate this.
