Gentaro is growing up much too fast, he has the walk of a silverback down pat, of course he has had an excellent roll model.!!!

This is a bit off topic but realizing how interested he was and how little he could see made me realize something that over these many years I did not actually realize. We know how small they enclosure is and it's got walls around it with Windows and such which cantero and everyone else enjoys looking at even if they don't interact with the visitors very often. Some gorillas have trees or have enclosures with large towers and they can climb up and look over and see reality see actual trees see the world. But our guys don't they can't really climb up and look over to see people walking around there's a small space open on one section where they can see visitors walking but they can't really see the outside it's mostly concrete and even though they can have the the tree and their little section they can't go up it and they're climbing apparatus is not really that high. So I was just really sad that they didn't have a way to look out and see what's happening or just see smoke or see people and wonder what they're thinking and realizing they're just as interest. So anyway I know we always feel sorry for the guys about this but I just needed to say it today I guess so many people are dying in Ukraine and I worry that we all don't get a chance to experience life all that much and today it's these guys. Have a good one though that's good to see them we we love them we're glad they're there and this is better than some alternatives for sure.

I agree with you. I feel very sorry for them I wish they had a much bigger enclosure where they can climb high to over look the zoo like many primate exhibits elsewhere .

Whoa!!!!! Momotaro is on full alert!!!!!! I've never seen him that close to the viewing window. He's fogging it up a lot. Hope all turned out well.

If he were in his natural environment, he'd be moving his troop further up the mountain and away from the potential danger. He's gotta STAY alert, he's responsible for his troop. The leaders are anyway. This almost proves the strength of his instincts. Idk if he was born captive or rescued or what but he's got protective traits for sure. Kinda cool. Sad too but🤷‍♀️💔🥺 whaddaya gonna do! Ya no!??

@Just Breathe I'm sure he was adorable lol they make wanna just eat em up!😊👊🏻❤️ I think it's incredibly amazing that...even tho he was born in captivity, his instincts are still to 'watch o v e r the troop' he's never even been around or seen a troop! Pretty amazing!

Not that he likes them perhaps HANDSOME MOMO expected to see some white helmets.😁

I was just thinking the same : this helmet-'form' triggers in him fear. It remerbered him to that white helmeted men when he was moved on a car to this actual enclosure. People with helmets = bad memory😱🐵. In some way he is just still a kid''🐵🐻''...

Wow! I've been busy watching old videos of this family. Today i see this one! WOW! What a difference they boys are all grown up. Love at the end when Gentaro copies his dad and walks on 2 legs. Now I pray Genki gets pregnant soon, for a daughter maybe?? lol

@Betty When she was at the zoo in Tokyo, she weighed almost half of what she does now. She has been through a lot, and when I think back on the news I am glad she is able to eat so much.

Momo has always been an amazing protector of his family. Always aware of some thing or something off near them and he doesn't ease up until he feels any slight danger is gone. I love that about him.

Momotaro is outrageous. Takes away Genki's grass.

It's not the cost. It's because Kyoto City, including the zoo, is a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. It's the main reason the zoo can expand up but not out. Even planting trees need on ok from the city, the national, and UNESCO permission.

In the wild gorilla's have up to 150 different variety's of food to eat, all I see is this family eating the same thing every day. It's quite sad they don't get a better choice.

犬や猫を飼ったことはありませんか？私は犬猫を切らしたことがないくらい、人生の中にいるんですが、猫もそうですが、犬は特に「なんでわかったん？」て思うほど、飼い主が帰ったら玄関で待ってます。彼らの超敏感な耳や鼻で察知するんだと思うけど。モモタロウも、姿形を見る前から、察知してたんじゃないでしょうか？飼育員さんの行動でわかったのかも知れませんね。むむ、いつもと違うって。さすがシルバーバックですよね。

Poachers and land developers make it difficult to do that. They are endangered. Here they are protected and they are mated with other gorillas from other zoos to raise the population.

@0.42 mark-- look at the mark on his head that looks like his hairline. It's roughly half way between the front and back of his skull. The part behind that mark?? Is that mass just a thick mass of fat or is that it's skull bones?? Anybody no?

Connective ligaments and muscle to control his jaws. There is likely a layer of fat in there somewhere.
