In this scene, she accused Cristina of "deliberately embarassing" her in front of a reporter, when it was her own behavior that was the cause of it. Even when Cristina just walked into the room, Joan's smile vanished, because the attention was no longer on her alone.

exactly. Joan had just warned her in the car "I don't want any trouble out of you!" so Joan blurts out "she got expelled" what did the crazy lady expect??

I agree.
“Why can’t you give me the RESPECT THAT I’M ENTITLED TO?!” Well, Miss Crawford, respect isn’t a one-way street. If you want respect, you have to give respect. You get in return what you give.

Exactly. Joan couldn't stand anyone not immediately submitting to her. So entitled and arrogant.

01:30 “….Barbruh PLEEZE?!” 🤣🤣🤣
Joan brought all this onto herself. Had she not told Barbara that Tina got expelled, knowing good and damn well she wasn't, maybe she wouldn't have acted a fool.
1:30..."JOAN?!?"... "BARBARA PLEASE!...PLEASE BARBARA!" 🤣🤣😵😵
I love that Christina didnt react to either slap. Joan expected Christina to cry or react in some extreme way. Christina was done and wasn't about to give Joan the satisfaction.
This scene of the movie is so good, I have to keep coming back to watch it. This is great acting at its finest.
Now that reporter has a story to tell.

She was finally able to stand up to her. She couldn't when she was little and no one else did.

The look she gives at 03:09 right after that little head nod is the one that gets me. Her eyes completely change and the audience knows the crazy switch has been fully flipped.

Believe me, some slaps help to teach how to behave. I'm not a problematic child, my mother slapped me so many times only when I really crossed the line, she's not abusive, she never lied to mr and I love my mother so much. You guys think that punishments aren't good. I agree, it's not a good technique many times...but sometimes it is considered on doing so for teach a lesson when children misbehave heavily.

The way Joan Crawford responded after she stated the adoption may have been for a little publicity was absolutely true. Because as soon as, she tried to back peddle by uttering "that's not true, you know that's not true" and Christina replied "Maybe a little true" and Joan goes nuts because it was true. Only a hurt dog hollers.

My mom's like this ...ppl like to talk sh1t to you when you bring up your mom issues but when my friends tell me the shady shit they go through I don't put them down ....I just tell them about mine how toxic she is everything could be going great but they have to spoil it ....when I have a family of my own I'm making sure my family never meets them
I remember seeing this movie as a kid & the horror those kids endured always stuck with me. Joan was every bit as arrogant and self absorbed as today’s Hollywood “ celebrities “.
Barbara please, please Barbara
So selfish for women to have children they're not equipped to take care of & abuse. The movie is painfully horrific to watch, but also might shed light on darker subjects that night otherwise be overlooked or misunderstood.. I remember being very young saying "okay mommy dearest," & my mother would laugh (partial denial maybe?) & say "Jessica, stop it..." Nothing like this should ever happen... EVER. Ladies, fertile on not, adoption or through biological means...Don't have children unless you are sure YOU can provide love, & a safe environment. A childs purpose isn't to fill some void or make a mother (or father) feel loved. That must come from within first.
Poor Beverly so SAD
1:12 how i call someone out when i catch them in a lie. the drama of her delivery!
There was no need to tell the reporter she got expelled, especially when that never happened, so you embarrassed yourself sweetie.

She made a cool out of herself
I think Joan truly loved her daughter, she was just a really bad mother, and I bet you Joan wishes things could have been different in the end. I’m making no excuses for Joan, but I do believe despite her bitterness, there was a part of her that truly loved her child. She just didn’t know how to be a parent. So please, don’t condemn her.
Barbara please!

LOL
Why does Joan really have to put Christina's business out there, especially telling lies about Christina? It wasn't necessary bringing up Christina's school issue. Joan didn't like that Barbara was acknowledging Christina. Joan embarrassed Christina by trying to make her look bad. Christina also asked an excellent question about being adopted.
my thing is, even if she did get expelled, why did joan feel the need to tell barbara that? 😂
😂yeah I'm not one of your fans !!!!
The scene should explain why Christina didn’t get expelled, but Joan Crawford said she got expelled.

In the scene prior to this, Joan was called to the school because a classmate told the headmistress that Christina and the boy she liked were making out after curfew. Christina was given the equivalent of a slap on the wrist, but Joan thought that was too lenient, so she decided to take Christina out.

I’m sorry but this scene is probably one of the reasons why this movie won Razzie’s worst picture, the same reason why these two actresses won the worst actress and worst supporting actress😅
Bettie Davis a dude in drag n he adopted a male child n inverted it into a girl. The book was written to continue to keep that secret.
