In this scene, she accused Cristina of "deliberately embarassing" her in front of a reporter, when it was her own behavior that was the cause of it. Even when Cristina just walked into the room, Joan's smile vanished, because the attention was no longer on her alone.

exactly. Joan had just warned her in the car "I don't want any trouble out of you!" so Joan blurts out "she got expelled" what did the crazy lady expect??

“Why can’t you give me the RESPECT THAT I’M ENTITLED TO?!” Well, Miss Crawford, respect isn’t a one-way street. If you want respect, you have to give respect. You get in return what you give.

I love that Christina didnt react to either slap. Joan expected Christina to cry or react in some extreme way. Christina was done and wasn't about to give Joan the satisfaction.

Believe me, some slaps help to teach how to behave. I'm not a problematic child, my mother slapped me so many times only when I really crossed the line, she's not abusive, she never lied to mr and I love my mother so much. You guys think that punishments aren't good. I agree, it's not a good technique many times...but sometimes it is considered on doing so for teach a lesson when children misbehave heavily.

The way Joan Crawford responded after she stated the adoption may have been for a little publicity was absolutely true. Because as soon as, she tried to back peddle by uttering "that's not true, you know that's not true" and Christina replied "Maybe a little true" and Joan goes nuts because it was true. Only a hurt dog hollers.

So selfish for women to have children they're not equipped to take care of & abuse. The movie is painfully horrific to watch, but also might shed light on darker subjects that night otherwise be overlooked or misunderstood.. I remember being very young saying "okay mommy dearest," & my mother would laugh (partial denial maybe?) & say "Jessica, stop it..." Nothing like this should ever happen... EVER. Ladies, fertile on not, adoption or through biological means...Don't have children unless you are sure YOU can provide love, & a safe environment. A childs purpose isn't to fill some void or make a mother (or father) feel loved. That must come from within first.

I think Joan truly loved her daughter, she was just a really bad mother, and I bet you Joan wishes things could have been different in the end. I’m making no excuses for Joan, but I do believe despite her bitterness, there was a part of her that truly loved her child. She just didn’t know how to be a parent. So please, don’t condemn her.

Why does Joan really have to put Christina's business out there, especially telling lies about Christina? It wasn't necessary bringing up Christina's school issue. Joan didn't like that Barbara was acknowledging Christina. Joan embarrassed Christina by trying to make her look bad. Christina also asked an excellent question about being adopted.

In the scene prior to this, Joan was called to the school because a classmate told the headmistress that Christina and the boy she liked were making out after curfew. Christina was given the equivalent of a slap on the wrist, but Joan thought that was too lenient, so she decided to take Christina out.
