Aren't these kinds of posts supposed to contain two quotes that are contradictory to each other? That's the whole point of having two separate statements from the same person, I thought, yet the two quotes you chose have no correlation.

Thinking about it know, the furry comment he said about it (how he was sad that "haha dan furry confirmed" was majority of the comments) makes sense because he really wanted Night Runner to have more recognition in their awesome music. Maybe a part of him feared that collaborating would even hinder Night Runner because of having any association with him specifically would eclipse anything they make together. I'm glad the fans immediately understood that and reacted accordingly.

I can remember getting glasses when I was 12, and I totally understand where Dan is coming from. The whole way home I could not stop looking at all the individual leaves. I shouted the passing license plates on cars to mom. I read all the damn road signs XD It really was almost a religious experience.
@inkdrip

same! I was 9, and my parents hung my glasses on the christmas tree. I put them on and was just _amazed_ at what I could see. my mom nearly cried while I was busy narrating what was suddenly visible and me exclaiming "this is what people can normally see?!" my joy was short-lived however, as the week after winter break I was changing shirts in the bathroom because my friend spilled chilli all over my top and as I pulled it over my head I knocked both my glasses and headband into the school toilet that didn't flush very well.

I remember getting glasses when I was like 17 or 18 and that feeling is so fucking powerful. No joke, I nearly started crying when I first put them on and could see the world clearly. It's true. I've worn glasses since the third grade. As a kid I got a new pair every year but as an adult I do far less often, and it's weird how the slightest shift in the prescription can make a huge difference and how you just get used to seeing things not clearly after a while. I once wore the same pair of glasses for six years. I never felt the need to update them because I could see perfectly fine to do all the regular stuff in life. But I finally got an updated pair that let me see BETTER and like Dan when I put them on it felt like a near-religious experience.

I wish I had that luxury. I remember my own momento mori crisis vividly. I was 20. In the Navy, in Bahrain. Halfway through a six month temporary duty, and with the schedule I'd get 3 entire days off in a row at all times. Being a barely adult, barely out of boot, solo kid all alone for 3 days in a flat in a foreign country lends alot of free time. I was on the couch. Finished the latest season of Stargate. Needed something else, so I just laid on the couch for a bit. I thought about going back to the states, which led to thinking about after my navy hitch, which led to thinking about things in a progressive fashion until I reached a single terminus. My death. And thats when it happened. A moment of clarity that no matter what paths I take, what choices I make, no matter how branching the road before me gets, eventually it all collapses to that one event. Inescapable. Inevitable. Unimaginable to my 20 year old self. I suddenly felt an immense wave of cold, wash from my head to my feet. The edges of my vision got dim. My heart started to pound rapidly and forcefully. I had my first panic attack at that time. I had no one with me. I wasn't even at my normal command. I just....ate it...swallowed it, kept it deep down, and kept my mind as busy as possible with the navy, then college, then job hunting. It wasn't until a year or so in on that front (during the recession) that I broke down again. Its almost 20 years later. I still haven't yet come to terms with my mortality. I eventually worked up to reaching out, so I have treatment and medication to control my panic and terror. Even so, while an orderly part of my brain can handle that particular fact with logical aplomb, that bad, damaged part of my brain, the visceral emotive part, it I dont think will ever accept my inevitable outcome.
"You're *you.* You just get to be *you* for a limited time." Dan.....I love the way you think.
The way Dan talks about wearing contacts after a long time is how I felt/STILL FEEL after getting lasik. My eyes were bad enough that even wearing glasses or contacts didn't really give me the detail that I saw the morning after the procedure, and I still think the most amazing thing about it all was being able to see and read the hotel sign across town. -7.25 ish to 20/15, baby!!

Honestly, these are the best parts of the channel to me. I love when they just shoot the shit and get all deep. Love it
I remember once, staring up at the sky, looking at the stars at night, and I had the thought, no, the realization: "That is not up. Humans decided that is up. You could be looking down. There is no up or down in space." And suddenly I felt like I was staring over the edge of a tall building, like the only thing holding me to the ground was some imaginary force between my feet and the pavement. I lost my sense of balance and fell backwards, and stared back into the sky And it was up again. For a second my brain had acknowledged my human preconceptions and attempted to visualize the universe properly, and my tiny monkey brain rejected it. For half a second, I got the closest I ever will to visualizing how tiny our world is, the expanse of infinity, and I realized I wasn't even 1% of the true scale, and my mind rejected it.

I had almost that exact experience when I chased a lightning storm with some friends several years ago. It was really late at night and it had us driving through the absolute ass crack of nowhere on all these winding back roads. At one point we stopped and got out to take a break and figure out where we were going and I just stared at this expanse of black sky and nothingness as these huge arcs of lightning lit every inch of it up every few seconds and suddenly I was _literally_ on my ass reeling from the sheer enormity of it all

i really love when dan and arin and dan go deep like this. it's cool to see other facets to the grumps beside being funny dudes.
What I learned today: Existential questioning is reserved for Pokemon and Zelda gaming sessions, mostly.
21:13 Dan: "It's so big that size no longer matters anymore" That's the perfect clip to take out of context
This comp reminds me how not everyone has depression their whole life and was raised non religious. I've thought about death since my first memory. I've had existential crisi my entire life lol
It's so nice hearing Dan's admiration for Night Runner. Magnum Bullets was my most listened to song of 2020.
"...Danny and the Fresh." "Fresh what?" *Aaaaagh!*
Man, that's exactly what it's like to wear contacts for the first time. I've had to have corrective lenses ever since I was a small kid, but I remember that glasses always gave me migraines. This is because I have a gnarly lazy eye with astigmatism, so my eyes try to focus on the rims of glasses along with everything else, but this wasn't diagnosed until I was an adult. I remember giving up glasses until junior high when I finally got contacts, and holy fucking hell, seeing the details of trees and leaves blew my mind. Dan hit that nail on the head, because I think that's the first thing that people notice once they have proper sight.
I just found out my Grandma died and all this existential stuff is actually really helping me cope. ❤❤ thank you for the deep talks, Grumps
What Arin is saying at around 9:43 is so goddamn true. That's basically how I dealt with anyone who tried to bully me in school when I was a kid. I don't think anyone ever tried to bully me more than once.
I love listening to these complications while I grind in RPGs. It makes the process much more enjoyable.
Arin: You should start a new band called Danny and the Fresh Dan: Fresh what? Link: Waaaaahhh!
Around 20:39 I think they start hearing a british dude who starts talking about all that big bang philosophy stuff. I'm almost positive that that's Alan Watts. He was a big proponent of translating Buddhist and Taoist teachings into the western world. Listening to him has helped me through some tough spots and gave me life lessons I still pactice today. Highly reccommend him.
the part where arin is talking about his old journal being like "im depressed" is interesting cause that's how they talk about a lot of certain eras of game grumps in their newer reacting to compilation videos from the pandemic. like they watch certain videos and they remember how they weren't taking care of themselves and they were exhausted or they were super mentally burned out and struggling mentally.
Everytime I see a bananas I think of Helena’s cold heart Edit: I can’t believe The bananas has gone bad isn’t in this smh
Deep Game Grumps I my favorite thing to watch/listen to while playing a game
Oh my god, the glasses and contacts part hit so close to home. Mostly because it’s my exact experience. Wearing contacts for the first time was a fricking godsend.
I love the pokemon episode where dan’s talking about how his past self used to see the world revolve around him and how he doesn’t want that anymore and stuff, and them shortly after get freaked out on how weird weepinbell looks. It’s not a game grumps episode without one of them becoming existencial and then almost immediately something happens that takes them completely by surprise.
13:59 I often think about what Arin says here. I’ve always wanted to work around games but I also don’t want to lose my love for gaming. Turning a hobby into a job sounds like the best thing ever until it happens I guess
"The whole world would only be half-blind" You think people stop at one eye? Good 'Ol naive Dan...
@michaelroberts4435

I think that's what Arin was gonna bring up before realising the episode was ending.
I've said it so many times - this stuff right here is what separates the Grumps from other let's-players. Anybody can be funny, and anybody can have deep thoughts, but the fact that this channel is such a beautiful combination of both is wonderful to me. They may make many jokes about pooping, farting, and charging crystals, but it's stuff like this that lets me know they're real people with real feelings and deep thoughts. I love you, Arin and Danny. Please, never change. ❤❤
I knew Everything would be here. I really wish they would’ve finished that tutorial section cause it’s so good
What a fantastic compilation of rather underrated moments by these dudes. They're able to speak fluidly about some really intense ideas and it just makes it very comforting to hear them walk through the different perspectives of life. It's also crazy how the different games they play just spark that kind of discussion. @FilmTyrant, you are a magnificent person. Bravo.
Some GG to start the year
Ah yes, Everything: The Alan Watts Game featuring Tumbling Deer
The beginning of this video brought back some flashbacks of being annoyed with Arin for never taKING OFF THE GODDAMN HOVER BOOTS! That feels better, but I would never want Arin to change his stubborn ways.
as a psychology student i find it so amusing how dan and arin describe how people are, like dan saying that people are good inside of their core is basically the base theory for humanistic psychology, whereas arin saying that people are like neutral beings and they're formed according to their experiences is the base theory of behavioral psychology. i think it kinda matches their own personalities really well, i felt kinda happy listening to that bit of their opinions/thoughts
you guys have made so many great memories. not just for yourselves, millions of people. these reflective videos make me realize that the thousands of hours ive spent with a controller werent wasted.
3:38 It took me about 7 seconds before I realized that they switched games here, I just thought Arin went into his inventory for a second and I thought "Wow Arin's character suddenly looks a lot more plump and actually colorful"
7:29 that was genuinely me when I heard that Steve cash died I deadass cried
Deep Grumps is my favorite. Makes me want to hear their conversations playing more games like Soma or other moral/existential exploration games.
I always liked the episodes of Grumps where they get deep and I do enjoy a good existential crisis from time to time. When I really think about how little time we have this world and what happens when we die, it's really scary.
Happy New Year GameGrumps! :)

The best part about that Magic Sword bit that Dan mentioned is that I actually know the guys in Magic Sword, and I actually know the original Comic Book writer when they were planning to make it a full comic series. They were just such a legit group of guys that actually helped me to get into music and start writing myself.

I would honestly love a "DeepGrumps" something that the grumps play while talking about thought provoking stuff. I would watch the hell outta that
It's so delightful listening to Dan talk about Night Runner and he ended up doing the vocals for them on Magnum Bullet!
The first comp that didn't stress me, i could do stuff calmly and listen to those stories. Liked it very much.
