I sat on the bathroom floor in silence hoping time would stop because work felt overwhelming and never ending And then some neighbor starts to blast my favorite jazz song. I cry every night during the 20 minute drive home from the library, feeling like I’ve accomplished nothing And then I have a phone call with my sister where we laugh and chat about childhood memories. I hold my test script after the test and light a cigarette with tears flowing because it feels like my world could and should shatter in that moment And then a few days later I’m smiling sweetly at my friends’ conversation while we grabbed ice cream together. I stood alone on the mountain top, looking down at the thousands of sparkles coming from the city light, my body paralyzed from exhaustion after the long day and cold meals And then when the sun comes back around, the fresh puff of smoky air from my lips fades into the scene of the blue mountain highlighted with light green trees and dark blue waterfalls and I whisper “woah”. I believe that’s why I keep going; why I wipe my tears after a breakdown and move on to tackle another test, another exam, even when every time I feel like my body physically cannot open another book. It’s because of the moments in between. There is always a moment of happiness in between my sadness and anxiety. And it may be laughable but that 1 minute of happiness between 99 minutes of sadness is truly sufficient to keep me going. I wish that every single one of you reading this (and even those that don’t pass by my comment) also have those moments in between that can push you to keep your head up and keep moving. Life is often tough and unfair, but I think there are enough happy moments in between to make this life worthy. I’m cheering for all of you, you’re doing an amazing job!

There was this girl who came from switzerland who sat in the same table in my art class. She was probably on the spectrum because she almost never talked, made eye contact, and never paid attention in class, just doodling in her notebook with headphones on. I suppose I sort of became friends with her because we took the same bus home, although our conversations were pretty awkward, especially because I'm sort of an introvert as well. I asked what she was always listening to, and she almost exclusively listened to calming movie soundtracks and soothing minimalistic music, really similar to this. I don't remember the last time we talked but I've never seen her again after high school. Its been 8 years since I graduated. I wonder what she's up to now.
