Moment Area Method Example 2 - Structural Analysis
Using the moment area theorems to calculate slopes and deflections in a cantilever beam with a little more complicated loading than example 1...but still a cantilever.

You are the legend of structural analysis. If I ever make it big and I will one day, I am gonna make a huge donation to your channel. 🤞
You did that better than my professor
You're a champ. Your videos are very easy follow, making complex topics a breeze. When I have a bad lecturer (hard to understand, or just has a voice that puts you to sleep!) I come and watch your stuff! GREAT!
Please turn me into a Big Mac.
Hey man, just wanted to thank you for this video along with all your videos. They have really helped clear up my muddled understanding of my structures classes that I barely attend because of how early it is/how difficult it is to understand. But you explain this stuff in a way that makes it so simple, keep doing what you do, you are greatly appreciate bro.

Kassra Rafiee Thank you for your comment. It is very encouraging and humbling to know that the videos are helpful outside of my own university. Let me know when you graduate!
Great job @structurefree. your lessons are awesome and real helpful.I just love the way you explain the things.
i am a student of mechanical engineering. i also had to study mechanics of material and the course became easy because of the videos. thnx for explaining the stuff in easy ways.
this was 10 years ago? the quality is soo good,and it helps me even to this day!
you don’t know how much this means to me, Thank you so much sir 😊
exceptionally explained.........You deserve over million subscribers
Very Simple & Straight forward subscribed for future reference.
Very nice example. Good video quality and excellent audio.
very interesting way to make one understand a complicated problem. thank you very much for this video
Quite a lesson... :).. keep clearing doubts sir
Excellent!! Well done!!
Really helpful!! No need of asking anything!! thumbs up.... :)
This helped me a lot, thanks champ!!
hello, can i ask a question. why the moment A is negative (-54kn.m) in the moment diagram eventhough it is positive actually like calculation in the reaction, which is +54kn.m.
Thank you for your explanation it really helped me.
Thank you very much sir. I learned a lot from you.
Thank you so so much! I love you! I think I just turned straight. thanks again!!~
Best video for M/EI diagram ever.

Its really clear now. Thanks!!!
Amen to you @structurefree for not using functions, it helps alot
Man i love your video's, laid back but extremely clear with well made drawings. My teacher never explained this method but its so mutch easier to use in allot of cases. Where do i donate allot of love and a a little moneys? :P
wish I could just like this a million times!

hey are have any explanation for matrix method (stiffness method )
Thanks sir very good teaching method..... effective way.👌👌
You are AWESOME!!
sorry i just dont get on why 18 kN/m be at the middle between A and B?
thank you so much. last question. if deflection at c is distance between tan a to c, then what is slope?
Your videos are really helpful and thank you for that also that jokes are really keeping me awake :)
If there wasn't an applied load at point C, how would the deflection diagram look?
this video showed up 2hours before my exam thank goodness
Is it completely right cause while finding x bar won't we need to divide Sigma AiXi by Sigma Ai?
Can you please tell me how did you know that those moment will be concave down ? thank you ..
very helpful lecture

Why does the moment graph below the x axis and not on top of the x axis

According to the sign convention that I use for internal loading, moments that cause compression at the bottom of the beam cross-section are considered negative internal bending moments.

STRUCTURE FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ! Timeless classics
could u do plastic analysis pleaseee
thank you, you champ!
hey. what books or reference are you using?
very helpful.
So sorry. I am very confused as to why the 54 on your moment diagram is negative even though your sign convention says anticlockwise is positive. Thank you :)
@structurefree
10 жыл бұрын
The shear and moment diagrams use an internal positive sign convention. Equilibrium equations use a global reference frame where counter clockwise is positive.
@AnandSingh-md8os

MA is 54KNm positive for this sign convention
@yoshitasahishnaa

Anand Singh The anticlockwise moment is by the fixed end. As in that's how the support... in this case fixed...restrains the clockwise moment of the beam. The BMD is drawn for the beam. Hence accordingly its shown negative as it is clockwise.
how to get the maximum deflection using this method ?
thank you too much,so much,very much...
Are you by any chance a professor? Either way you exceed the teaching skills and humor of our prof, a dean on our college 😁
i am not sure when choosing the centroid , which side to start from, you were mentioning fat ad skinny side , I am still confused about it lol
@jaeseow7805
10 жыл бұрын
Think about it this way. If you were to place the triangle on say, a ruler, and wanted it to be perfectly balanced and level, where would you place the ruler? It would be closer to the fat side to accomodate for all the extra fat. Same principle applies. The centroid (note "center") of the triangle is 1/3 from the fat side to accomdate the extra fat, or 2/3 from the skinny side because its skinny.
Why does the unit of θ B kn.m2 ? shouldn't it be in radians, since it is an angle?
@structurefree

marian joyce macadine if we substituted values and units for E and I, the units would come out to radians. i hope that helps.

Hey, thanks so much for these videos. You should be like another Salman Khan or collab with him!
Thanks alot you better than my doctors😂
thank you
magic breaked ☺
Sir, i just want to clarify, -MA+18-(6x6)=0, answer is -18kN-m...it was being thought in school that clockwise is positive and counterclockwise is negative or if vice versa the answer is still the same..but there the answer is -54kN-m..i'm sorry, that is so confusing..
My professor had a beam with “4i” written under one section of the beam and “i” written under the other half of that beam; would that be an example of when the curvature diagram would not bead straight forward because EI changes??
how did u actually draw the moment diagram

It may help to practice drawing some moment diagrams before jumping to the moment area method. Check out my statics or mechanics of materials playlists.
very helpful thanks chief
sorry.. how did u get 36 kN/m ?
yet again you saved my ass
how is it -675, when I got -729 in my calculator?
There is a major problem in finding the angle at B, he didn't include the area of the rectangle under the curve, only the triangle!
@nuke123ful
5 жыл бұрын
He calculated the area of the trapezoid, which is the combination of the rectangle and triangle
i think it was good class

Haha yep! 93 :)
You had divided the moment by EI and said that the curvature now is the same as the moment BUT I think this is not true because the moment diagram is a function and dividing it by some value will cause changes to the slopes .... changing tthe shape of the diagram itself ! Only subtraction and addition are allowed with a transition of the curve but keeping the same shape

hey man, im learning civil engineering in israel, and im trying to find a video on a certain topic that i can only translate from hebrew as "loading points method" where you load a unit force on certain points after breaking up the structure into sub-structures. its an aditional (other than the muller method) method to finding influence line. hope you can help! your videos are awesome!
Practice?!?! We talkin' about practice? Not a game...practice?!
shit got real now :\
