Agreed, and am not a doctor so there's no angle. This mom seemed spiteful in parts of her letter. She's apparently "sad" that the doctor won't have the privilege of knowing her daughter. Really? Lol, come on now.

The doctor was brave. But his words fell on deaf ears. He told you the truth. Your baby is a baby, and to some, beautiful. BUT...Not to everybody that she will come in contact with. Some extraordinary parents see this as a life changing thing. Others do not, and leave the marriage. This doctor was warning you so you had the choice. Others who had this choice and took it were saying they could not handle it. Trolls will out.

Okay, it’s cool that she wanted to keep the baby, but this may cause doctors to be reluctant to offer information and options to the millions of women who want access to that. Not everyone wants a sugar coated version of everything, and not everyone wants their medical advice drenched in a religion they may not even believe it. She shouldn’t have blasted the doctor, and I hope this doesn’t impact his willingness to inform everyone of their options.

+charb3101 as trimsomy 21 patients get older, the subjected to greater health problems - leukaemia, cardiac defects, early onset dementia, aggression, etc. Unless she has amazing healthcare and is financially set, she will inevitably run into medical issues with her daughter.

Maybe it's a trend for middle income/rich white women to raise babies with down syndrome but not everyone has the financial or emotional means to raise someone who will only get sicker with age.

I’m republican but if I was going to have a baby with down syndrome I’d have it aborted and I’d never argue that it shouldn’t be an option for woman who have babies that are the same. I don’t even like abortion but It’s one of the few exceptions in my mind. It’s a genetic defect that ruins their life and the life of the family too. Often times you can’t take care of your kids or have any other kids because they need so much attention, they rage and never mature. Society has become too weak and sympathetic to the point where we’re keeping people alive whom nature never intended to survive. That kid is going to have an awful life.

I'm sorry but who are you to decide who deserves a chance at life and who doesnt? You don't get a say in what people with down syndrome can and cannot do. And unless you're psychic you don't know what kind of life they're going to have. Some get married have jobs and live very full and productive lives, like many other developmental disablities those with down syndrome have varying degrees of intelligence some being child like to others being very high functioning. Yes it comes difficulties and challenges but I dare you to find me one person on this planet who does have a single thing wrong with them. Not unless you're the only absolutely perfect human being on the planet. For you to say they don't deserve to live because of something that's beyond their control is disgusting .

World learns from down syndrome we are better people because of down syndrome and they are god's gifts that he wants to bring in this world and down syndrome is a blessing and they are god's miracles because he has a special need to spread love and sharing it with the world around us

i'm aborting if the fetus has downs syndrome or other disabilies that wouldn't let the fetus live life on their own/unaided/wasting resources. i have autism and that makes life harder, can't imagine living your entire life at the consciousness level of a 8-9 year old. Nope . Nope. Nope.

Beautiful baby girl, you did the right thing.

I hate how everything that is not considered normal is seen as a bad thing. This child is fine the way she is. There is nothing wrong with her. She deserves to live just as much as anyone else. I myself have Autism and you wanna know something? I don't care. Does it create challenges in my life? Yes it does but I accept the challenges I will have to face and she'll have challenges too but she'll get through them and who knows maybe she'll surprise us maybe years from now we'll see her on the news saying how much she's accomplished. I don't mind having Autism. I wouldn't be who I am without it and so far people love who I am and people will love her too as soon as they get to know her. God bless this little girl and her family stay strong.

It’s one thing to not find out in an ultrasound and only when the baby is born. Yes, you love that baby and you raise it well. But if you find out during pregnancy it would be the most selfish thing to continue the pregnancy. Why would you want to bring your child into a world of suffering. That is plain selfish! This is why we have the technology called ultrasounds! Stop thinking with emotions and start using your brain!

Love and best wishes to this wonderful mother, One of the phrases in the original hippocratic oath is " I will not give a woman an abortive remedy". I am not an anti-abortion guy. But, doctors have no right to influence their patients on their personal choices. Where I work, one of the owners has a child who is mentally challenged. She is one of the most beautiful and caring people you will ever want to meet.
