Yeah most parents try to be their children friend more than their parent and you see how most of them turn out lol. I used to be annoyed how strict my mother was but now I appreciate it more as I got older.

Stephen himself looks just like his mom. He's actually the only one of her children that looks like her. Sydel and Seth both look like their dad.

Sonya is like my mom. She always told me and my friends "I am not your friend, I am your mother." As an adult, I appreciate that now. She raised 3 great adults, so whatever Sonya did or did not do, she did it well. Great interview. New to your show.

I so love Mama Curry! I love that she introduced her children to Jesus. She's beautiful and strong and one of my Sheroes!!! Sydel, keep doing what you're doing! You are a breath of fresh air and even though you're so young I can see an old soul who is compassionate about people. God bless your families and extended families!

You can tell Mrs. Curry is a teacher. The kind that you loved being sent to when u got in trouble, but her stern voice still put some fear in ya.

@@usmanioa I had a hot as hell Macedonian teacher in HS, she was only about 28-29 years old, but she was super strict and would not tolerate any kind of bullshit....I would always be extremely nervous around her

“As a parent I never strived to be my children’s friend..” however harsh that sounds, it’s true! Friendly parents leads to all discipline and authority going out of the window.

Not true. I think you should be parent first and friend second. You should always strive to have a good relationship with your children so they feel comfortable telling you things. For example if someone hurts them, or bullying them.

Not true. My parents are my best friends and we talk like we are friends, and I just got accepted to buffalo university. You don’t HAVE to be strict. As a parent you should know your child

I've never been my sons friend, Parents and friend don't belong in the same category. Your friend can't be your Mom. Usually its a parent that's living their youth, through and with their kids.

@@kimbermichelle3922 spot on. You should be a disciplinarian and be approachable, like a guidance counselor, who adjusts based upon the temperment of the child. Your child should respect you, look up to you, and in turn you provide them with the stability and nurturing required to become an adult and live their lives. Sonya was a teacher and headmaster, so her disciplinary approach was never going to be 'friend'. This is why the Curry's are premier, by far the first family of the NBA. Considering where Sonya/Dell sit as parents of three married out of three children, the means were justified.

So amazing how Steph looks exactly like your mom n how you look EXACTLY like your dad

I could listen to Sonya all day. Such a solid, awesome, thoughtful woman. I can’t wait to dive into the devotional. My daughter is 5, but I’m so excited about continuing to develop my ideals about nurturing myself and pouring into my mini :) I was also an athlete, and grounded in my spiritual beliefs. What an interesting journey this life is. Would LOVE to hear more about what she thinks about relationships, staying healthy, and life in general! I’ve just joined the 40 club, and so much better positioned for all that God has for me! Thank you, Sydel, for this great video!! 🙌🏾❤️

Very much appreciated this. THANK you. A lot of the comments are about your Mom's physical beauty. That's there - but what really came across to me is that she's a woman of substance and a thinking person who has been intentional about a lot in her life - her parenting, her relationships, her work. Those things hit me more (in a positive way) than her looks and I hope others registered those things as well as her advice, too.

I absolutely love the spirituality and persona the entire Curry family projects on to the public. Sydell was aptly named because she looks like Dell with long hair 😆. Beautiful to see Sydell's relationship with both of her parents. Praying for the great blessing of a child to come her way soon.

Blessed you, to have your mother by your side. My mom left this earth 24 years ago when I was 9 years old. I still have hard time to accept it. The grief still it is inside and affects me my mental health. I still remember her pain( she died because of ovarian cancer) please people love your parents especially your mom, no one replace a mothers love. I love you mom and missed you terribly. My beautiful mama. Thanks for sharing the video. It is always a joy to watch your videos.

Some of us can relate to your pain...Some things in life will always stay on our minds...and guess what, it is okay, I don't want no one telling me she is in a better place, etc. mine past away three years....it hurts, but, fortunately for me it was deep into my adult life....so keep reflecting on the good times, memories, etc,....and keep positive thoughts. .....a lot of us feel your pain and fully get it. This was awesome to watch!! I have a daughter who is 19 and is a sophomore in college. It is very different parenting a child and no longer raising her per say. 2:55 Words of wisdom right there. I think it's really damaging when your parents try to be your friends first and forget about parenting to spoil you, that doesn't help anyone to grow. There's time to have a more chill type of relationship later on.
