Молчат Дома - Этажи

Молчат Дома (Molchat Doma) - Этажи (Etazhi) [2018]
Sacred Bones Records
This is a re-upload. The previous green version of the video was the first one to go viral, uploaded in 2018 on release.
Guess what finally arrived.
I've been waiting for this one ever since it was announced. My record order, which included the Etazhi 12", arrived earlier than expected. So I've had this week to play this record to death.
'S krysh nashikh domov' was such a great debut for the group, and Molchat Doma quickly became one of my most played artists. Going into this record, all I really wanted from the group was the same formula just kicked up a notch.
And that's pretty much what we got here.
This record doesn't sound nearly skeletal as the last, instead, Etazhi is sonically dense. While I think the bare nature of the previous record added to the group's charm, the extra emphasis on production this time around does a great job highlighting the band's best facets. The bass grooves can really be felt, the guitar shimmers in the best way, and the drum machine punches.
It's a sad dance.
enjoy.

    @@hematogen50g ukrainian and russian aren't as similar as people indicate. their alphabets share some characters, but not all, and their structures and words are actually different in a few ways. they're similar in some ways, there's a reason they're considered different languages. russian doesn't have characters like є, ґ, or ї. and ukrainian doesn't have ё, ь, ъ, э, or ы. ukrainian also uses в as a semi-vowel, where it's a consonant in russian, too. and this is just an alphabet level difference, not even starting on the other differences structure and vocabulary wise. to compare these languages to the differences between british and american english feels a little dismissive, lol. also, not sure what your reply had to do with the original comment.

    Translation for foreigners))) Song at 22:20 "Enamel medical chamber pot, window, bedside table, bed. It's hard and uncomfortable to live, but it's comfortable to die. I lie and think: This white bedsheet covered yesterday the person who has come out into another world today. And quietly dripping from the tap. And Life, disheveled like a prostitute, comes out of a fog and sees: a bedside table, a bed ... And I'm trying to get up I want to look into her eyes. I want to look into her eyes and burst into tears and never die." it's quite beautiful poetry in russian language. The Author was talented man. A way to translate the band name is: «The buildings keep silent». The word «Дома» means buildings of a block, not houses. The album name «Floors» correlates with it. The track list in English (with comments): 0:00 At the bottom¹ 4:07 To dance 7:30 Films 11:47 Waves 15:58 Anguish 19:05 Prediction 22:10 Bedpan² (Boris Ryzhy) 24:31 Dealers³ 28:18 Cell⁴ ¹) the same phrase in Russian may be also translated as «The Lower Depths», the play of Maxim Gorky, but in the song a young man drinks his bottle to the bottom, then goes to his girl ²) in Russian it mostly means a «vessel», but in the song it's an «enameled bedpan» on a bed ³) it seems to be more close to a dealer (with a negative connotation), than to a trader, or a merchant ⁴) it's clear from the song that it's a space where adjacent stairs between the floors do turn, and where the youth of the 90's used to sit, drink, smoke, etc. In the beginning of the song a young man goes to the 8'th floor, then runs back by the stairs and sees some marks and writings on the cell's walls that remind him the past times, the soul of this place - the stairs cell. In Russian the same word also means a «cage», and this double meaning stresses the melancholy of the song.

  • @antonbaukin1287

    @antonbaukin1287

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@dirks4041 , both are wrong - I tell you as a native russian. Russian language is rather complex: it has declensions, conjugations, thus free order of a sentence. «it's silent at home» is translated as «дома тихо», and word «дома» here is not a plural of «дом» (house, building), but an adverb: where is quiet? - at home. But the band's title is definitely plural of «дом». In Russian word «дом» has three meanings that are defined by the context: 1) a home, 2) a house, 3) a building. Your variant supposes 1). But correct one is 3). Second, «sudno / судно» is nor a vesssel, not a bathtab. The main character lies on a bed having enameled bedpan (supposed) under it. He is definitely ill. He sings that «to live is hard and not cosily, but it's cosily to die». He is not bathing...

    Thank you so much for uploading this! I first discovered this genre from finding Альянс - На заре from the movie Hardcore Henry, that video of them playing to the soviet audience was eye opening. Then thanks to many comments on those videos I discovered 'Coldwave' as someone coined it. I'm from the UK, lived through the 70's and 80's and was into the synth scene here, so this music calls to me. I'm hooked!
