In the end, we are all one!

This perception of Central and Eastern Europe has a historical basis, but also, as you pointed out, a climatic one. Historical, because most of these countries were vassalized or colonies of stronger neighbors such as Germany, Russia or Austria-Hungary. Two wars swept through this region. As a consequence, all the nations of this region fell into the hands of a communist regime dependent on Moscow. This caused further regression, and if not regression, then minimal development. The lack of prospects and chances for a life of prosperity, architecture or attitude towards the individual generated appropriate music. In my country, Poland, there were many New Wave and Panko groups that contemplated this state. A good example is the Siekiera band. All this also had an impact on people's mentality. The more we get richer in money and things - the more we get poorer in family and friendship relations. I call this phenomenon "Americanization". I'm from Serbia and a 90's kid so my childhood was horrific. Two wars, poverty, dead relatives, no food, no money, no things but the friendships was real, family love was real. It's all fading away, year by year as we progress monetarily, we regress mentally and spiritually.

I'm listening to this is in a dimly lit room somewhere in the former Eastern Bloc. It's the middle of winter and when I take a look outisde I see a thin of layer of dirty snow covering the street. I feel so tired after today's work and I have to get back there early next morning. Just thinking about it makes my mind go numb. Day after day after day. But that's our life brothers. We may have given up hope for a change, but we will manage and endure somehow. We always do.

I grew up in one of these commie blocks. I absolutely hated living in such close proximity to strangers, the thin walls, the bored/lonely grandmas always ready to stir shit, the unpredictable, miserable neighbors ready to snap at any moment, the nonstop crying of babies and barking of dogs. That said it definitely had a very distinct atmosphere that this playlist paired with these pictures beautifully captured. I don't speak a word of Russian, but the music speaks to my soul still.

@@noun.f А что изменилось то? У нас как-то по другому чтоли строят? По-моему чувство уныния от новой типовой высокоэтажной застройки даже сильнее стало чем раньше. Дворы все в парковках, без деревьев, вечные очереди на автобусы и желание прибить кого-нибудь от раздражения в 6 утра. Этажей стало больше, и дома выглядят поновее, а суть не изменилась вообще. А наличие смартфонов и современных сервисов, не изменяет общую эстетику на вид из окна типовой панельки сделанной из говна и палок в условном Новосибирске

Господа и дамы, и другие. Здесь одно изображение с начала нулевых это панельные дома в фиолетовом оттенке. Остальное от 50х до 80х, какой конкретно год 80го сказать невозможно, так как последние такие блоки могли достроиться в начале 90х при заложении фундамента при СССР, дальше пошла эпоха красного кирпича, в сочетании с мелкой квадратной серой плиткой в зависимости от дизайна и региона. Автомобиля и чего-либо еще тут тоже нет из 2010х. Если говорить про атмосферу, по которой у вас ностальгия о городском пейзаже, то наверно лучше сказать по пост-советскому пространству, которое вы застали. Потому что дальше городская застройка действительно изменилась

The easter people suffered a lot in the last 40 years, which has made them tough on the outside but grateful, generous and friendly on the inside. Absolute admiration.

i was born in East Croatia(was pert of Yugoslavia now EU),and when i see those buildings they are similar like in my town(we had socialism)...i feel..somehow i do not know! i like it! now i live on one Adriatic island ,and i am not happy lol,to much sun,stones,sandy beaches lol..nooooo i don't feel like at home.I do not know how is in Russia,my mom was in Soviet Union but in that time,that was shitty country if we compare with Yugoslavia,it was a shitty, depressed and poor country.Our people could travel all over the world with a Yugoslav passport,The Soviets could not leave, as if they were North Korea, they had the same.But now it's a different story, the only two cities worth seeing are Moscow and St.Petersburg, beautiful nature, people are like us (we are also Slavs, South Slavs)I will probably never see Russia in my life...especially because of this fucking war....and that was my wish.

From a Russian: no, Moscow and Saint Petersburg are noot the onlly amazing cities, there is a rooute called Golden Ring of Russia and it's all very beautiful cities. Of course, life is not that good, but the scenery is absolutely stunning. I would even say rural Russia is way more atmospheric than the cities

Everyone who hadn't experienced tha late 80s, 90- early 2000' in Russia/East-block will have difficulties understanding the whole hopelesness of the situation people were in. Alcoholism, drugs, murder, empty stores. Growing up in 90s' in Russia and looking at the photos combined with this music, makes me very sad. As they say; suffer, we need to suffer just a little more before we will have a nice life... I doubt though this will ever happen@@EricTronicEP​

Мы все это видели, это пейзажи любого российского/постсоветского города. Везде одни и те же серые панельки, заметенные снегом тротуары, открытый грунт и грязные машины зимой, будь то в Самаре, Саратове или Новосибирске. Я сам из Казани, и могу показать места на карте города, которые выглядят ровно как эти фото.

I grew up in one of those blocks in eastern germany. I had so many friends there and everyone was outside knowing each other, talking, having BBQs and just living their lifes. Some people were crazy, some weren't, some made it out, some didn't, some never wanted. Eventually everything fell apart at the end. I have so many memories and can't stand fancy neighbourhoods until today. I will always feel a certain warmth when I think back. Shout out to my friends from around the world that know what I'm talking about ❤

I don't understand a word, but I believe I still get most of the message. The cold climate really is an integral component of East European melancholy. That much is certain.

I accidentally got this video from recommendations, I was listening OST from anime and I noticed my attention on side panel of YT. It's funny that.... ...что я бы вряд ли вообще когда-нибудь открыл это видео, если бы не одна маленькая деталь. Я заметил превью видео из-за показавшегося мне очень знакомым старым троллейбусом и видом города. Дело в том, что я с детства люблю троллейбусы. Я не мог не заприметить знакомый окрас и зелёный маршрутный номер 5-ки. Сперва думал, что просто показалось, но потом открыл видео и действительно убедился, что это мой город и мои родные мне машины. 112-я машина для моего города была последней из старых по-советски построенных троллейбусов. Несколько лет назад ему вернули типичный заводской для таких машин - бело-синий :3. Это мой любимый окрас, и последние годы этот троллейбус был один такой. Иронично, что это видео про думерскую музыку, ведь сегодня троллейбусная система в моём городе практически уже закрыта.... Но ещё интересней то, что я, сидя на разных транспортных сайтах, никогда прежде не видел этих депрессивных зимних фотографий со 112-м. Они греют мою душу. Ещё я заметил, что фото на 3:09 - тоже из моего города. Да, оно тоже про троллейбус - ведь это знаменитый по-идиотски спроектированный столб прямо посреди проезжей части на улице 2-й Таманской Дивизии, который держит троллейбусную линию, а вернее - на нём расположен изолятор сети. Это мой родной город Нальчик - столица Кабардино-Балкарской Республики. Я ни с чем не спутаю родные улицы - пусть даже снег для нашего южнороссийского города редкость и выбивается из привычного образа моей малой Родины. Быть может, тут ещё что-то есть из моего города, чего я просто никогда не замечал? ...that I would never have open this video if not for one tiny detail. I noticed preview of this video from seemed to me very familiar old trolleybus and view of city. The fact is that I love trolleybuses since childhood. I couldn't to not recognize familiar coloring and green route №5. At first I thought it was just my imagination, but after I opened video and really became sure that it's my city and native to me machines. Unit 112 was last from old soviet-type trolleybuses for my city. Few years ago it's even got its old paint back, typical factory coloring for trolleybuses like this - white and blue :3. It's my favorite coloring and last years it was only one here like. Ironically that this video about doomer music, because for these days trolleybus system in my city practically closed already.... But what’s even more interesting is that, sitting on various transport sites, I had never seen these depressing winter photos with the 112th. They warm my soul. I also noticed that photo on 3:09 - too from my city. Yeah, it's too about trolleybus - because it's famous idiotically designed pillar right in the middle of the roadway on the 2nd Taman Division street, which holds trolleybus line, or rather - it's placed on it network isolator. It's my homecity Nal'chik - the capital of Kabardian-Balkarian Republic. I won’t confuse my native streets with anything - even if snow so rare for our southern-Russian city and kicking out from usual image of my lesser Motherland. May be, there is something else from my city, which have I just never noticed? P.S. 112-й троллейбус не отправился в металлолом. Каким-то чудом при закрытии нашей системы его и ещё одну машину выкупил соседний город - Ставрополь. Вероятно, кто-то прямо сейчас утром едет в нём и даже не знает, что когда-то эта машина - часть моего детства, часть моей утерянной истории. Для него это просто типичная поездка в старом троллейбусе. P.S. 112th trolleybus wasn't scrapped. By some miracle, when our system was closed, it and another machine were bought by the neighboring city - Stavropol'. Probably someone is riding in it right now this morning and doesn’t even know that this machine - part of my childhood, part of my lost history. For him, it's just a typical ride on an old trolleybus.

A perfect soundtrack for listening while playing Soviet Republic. But unfortunatelly can't understand a word of it. Anyway sounds nice. Regards from Brazil.

Listening to this from Ukraine, despite living close to the frontline and having lived under Russian control for a bit, I still enjoy this music to this day and I am very grateful to still being able to listen to this music, let alone be alive.

Музыка из детства. Когда близкие живы и здоровы, все вместе. Ни забот, ни хлопот. Уверенность, что все еще впереди и только начинается. Когда ночные пейзажи зимы, словно сказка. А заброшенные дома зовут тебя к себя, предлагая начать пусть короткое, но путешествие. Спокойная, расслабляющая, прекрасная музыка. Депрессии и упадка тут и рядом не было.
