The Mokwheel Asphalt is a commuter e-bike made for quick and comfortable cruising. We dive into the bike’s specs, components, features and performance in this Mokwheel Asphalt ST review!
As you’d expect from an e-bike with a cruiser-influenced design, the Asphalt features a casual, upright riding position and a smooth, comfortable ride.
The bike is fast, too, thanks to its 500W rear-hub motor! It uses a torque sensor that gives the bike smooth acceleration, so you can get up to speed confidently and quickly.
The Asphalt handles well thanks to its 60-lb frame, large wheels, and wide handlebars, allowing it to meander through traffic comfortably.

I look for a bike that doesn’t break down before 5 miles with torque sensor issues. Also a bike that has a battery that sits flush with frame and generally good fit and finish. The Asphalt checks none of those boxes. I’ve personally seen others with similar issues.

I picked this bike up a few days ago. I was actually ready to buy the Aventon Level 2 when I saw the Mokwheel Asphalt ST right next to the Aventon. So I test drove both and liked the Mokwheel better without knowing the price. Its fantastic and at $1,500 its a steal. Likes: 1. Torque peddling. I had it up over 25 mph at PAS 1 peddling pretty hard. What I like is unlike other methods (like cadence) the harder you peddling the faster you go regardless of the set PAS level. If I set it to PAS 3 I get to 25 mph with less effort PAS 1. That's the difference. Honestly, torque peddling is genius. 2. Its very stable and well built. No wobbling. Even at 30 mph it feels safe. 3. Ergonomics. At first I thought I would not like the handle bars but after riding it around on the test drive I came to appreciate how comfortable it felt. 4. Its fast. If you want it to be. If not you can adjust the settings to limit speed. 5. No herky jerky with the motor. Its very smooth. 6. Color display. I will never go back to black and white. 7. Lights - powerful headlight, great rear lights and breaking lights. All integrated and powered by the battery. 8. It has a built in horn! Improvements: 1. The gears work great but I would absolutely recommend Mokwheel adds an 8th gear, or more. 2. Nothing else. Its really that good. Great bike. Highly recommend.

This bike is set up to pedal around at a nice leisurely pace and get you higher speeds if you like a thrill .. Concentrate on the commute and not pedaling over 25 mph. Low tire diameter contact with the ground is going to increase stopping distance of any bike. Then you later say the bike is slow keeping up with traffic after saying it's fast ..🤔 haha. All over the place .. But great job reviewing it. If it goes 35 mph I would sell mine and buy this one.😂

Our wording could have been more clear - the Asphalt ST wasn't slow, it just required a pretty rapid cadence to reach its top speed.

I left a comment on your print review about actually weighing these bikes yourself in the configuration you test. Manufacturer’s ‘claimed’ weights mean little as the consumer has no idea what the configuration is for the claimed weight. One well known manufacturer gives the weight of their folding bike without the fenders or rack and the battery removed.

Excellent point, and we have actually started weighing our test bikes. We'll include our measured weights more often! Thanks for the feedback.

Is the battery UL listed or certified?

Is this a natural feel torque sensor? Are their speed stops on each pass level?

I just bought this ebike. There are no speed stops as far as I can tell. I keep it in PAS 1 and got it up over 25 mph. I absolutely love the torque peddling. Going up to PAS 3, 4 or 5 simply means that you don't have to pedal as hard as PAS 1 or 2 to achieve speed.

@@treydrier3169 Yup I just achieved 40 mph on a flat straight parking lot in 7th gear 5th pass and really didn’t peddle to hard. I was really surprised to achieve this speed on flat ground.

I am not sure between the Asphalt of the Aventon Pace 500.3 any ideas or suggestions?

They're extremely similar bikes, so you really can't go wrong with either option. If we get down to brass tacks, the Asphalt felt slightly more comfort-oriented, but the torque sensor on the Pace felt a bit more responsive. Either way we think you'll be happy!

Your review for pace 500.3 was more positive I think and plus it’s lighter which is important I’m not planning on doing any trails or off road so you think pace is better option?
