There’s a big misconception I feel like a lot of anime only fans have towards Re:Zero and especially this season. Some people call it too long and overdrawn, I’m happy they made it as long as they did. This arc in the LN is the longest arc in the entirety of the Re:Zero story. I am glad that studio White Fox didn’t rush this season and gave it the proper adaptation it deserved. As a LN Reader I am happy that they followed the LN so closely and it shows with the phenomenal work they’ve done.

he was an actual weeb before getting transported into another world and initially treated the whole thing like a regular isekai, then while going insane from the deaths getting off of the power fantasy of saving everyone,until they slapped him in the face and showed him he wasn't owed all that bullshit you see in that kind of anime. He had to become an actually good human being to deserve love,instead of telling himself he couldn't do it and giving up on everything just because he couldn't reach his father's standards.

This review is so short because basically any event in that season had such an impact that you can barely say anything about the show without spoiling it. I love it.

I love how Subaru keeps it real this season by telling Emilia off. Letting Beatrice know that he's not who she's waiting for but to stop being stuck on a 400 year old promise. He's had enough of people shit and its great seeing him express it.

@Mally i even like subaru during episode 13-17 because he felt real. He wasn’t instantly some great hero. He was a dumb teenager, and he matured for the right reasons. I know people cringe during that time but its still fucking phenomenal writing. What other shows would make their mc such a dickhead? At least right after they made him likable

@Mally Yea we see asshole mcs in OTHER genres but I hope this shows that not every isekai has to be so “safe”. Even Mushoku. Despite its good writing (at times) I just fucking hate most of the characters. Especially the girls and Rudy. Rudy is just a horrible character. His past isn’t relatable (bullying never fucking gets that bad) nor did he have any redeeming qualities. I understand he gets better, which is barely even true because Ive read the novels. It still feels like an escapist power fantasy story

I was rewatching some episodes and it dawned on me that Subaru thought of this world as a video game until episode 13 where he does things wrong and when his little generic MC act doesn't play out as he expected and has the little fight with Emilia, it's like he's saying "Why do the NPC's don't do things as they should?" in his mind. Then you get episode 15 where... Well... He learns how things will go from now on.

Even in the first 12 episodes, you can see Subaru act sorta perverted and kinda dickish. Theres also the fact that some of his intentions WERE earnest. Yea he treated Emilia like a waifu sometimes, but he still cared about her and others. He has many different sides to him, and his motivation for things is complex. Thats how real people are. Btw idk if you were around when those episodes aired but they were probably the most controversial scenes in anime ive ever seen. Weebs were more angry at Subaru acting like that than they were at fucking Redo of a Healer lmao. Funny because Subaru is more like the average anime fan compared to most MCs

I think a major perk of the show is that it has a main character who's just that, a character. Subaru has distinctive thoughts, feelings and decision making, he isn't just a blank slate for weebs to project themselves unto and does wonders for the show.

Not only that but his thoughts, feelings, and decisions don't weigh more heavily than other people's. He's essentially on the same playing field, or even lesser because of his lack of magic and strength, and he has to learn to navigate that with the only ability he has.

The scene where subaru was able to blurt out the return by death felt way too good because it was slowly eating him up. That must have felt good to be able to tell someone of your deepest secret. It can be applied to many scenarios in real life.

We seriously need to thank white fox though, without the insane amount of care they gave re zero season 2, it just wouldn't have been the same. Like constant 30 minute episodes week after week, cutting out the op and ed (both of which are also amazing) just to fit more in each episode. White fox seriously outdid themselves, they deserve more praise for how much effort they put into this season. Absolutely fucking amazing.

Agreed. When I initially heard of the hype around it, I thought that it was going to be actually worse than what the people were saying. Not only was I proven wrong, but this series exceeded my expectations as well. At times, it succeeded the hype around it in my opinion. I Love re zero but I have a unpopular opinion. My unpopular opinion is that I think season 1 is a bit better than season 2. Imagine if there was a spin-off from abother character's point of view where Subaru just succeeds everything from the very beginning without knowing what Subaru went through.

Yeah I saw a Reddit post about that, it would really explain what Rem said at the beginning of the season. I saw a lot of people confused why she sees him as such a hero, but they fail to realize that she has seen him in an almost entirely positive light the entire time she knew him. Like yeah there was his fight with Emilia, but she wasn't there to see that, so otherwise all she sees of him is a badass that obliterated the White Whale and rescued kids from Mabeasts without showing any fear.

@@lucas_h WITH showing fear mind you, that's even more impressive in her eyes, how he was terrified to the point of shaking but was still fully planning to run into that forest to save the children. Its not any surprise that rem adores him so much. From her perspective, he saves the children, goes back to save her when she's gone absolutely nuts in the forest, ran off to distract the mabeasts for her, and then survived and managed to tell her exactly what she needed, when she needed it. And then when he finally almost snaps, she's able to get his fighting spirit back, where he then manages to bring down the white whale with her and the army.

I enjoyed that Subaru kept it real by telling Beatrice that he can't be that person for her, even though she said if he lied she would've went with him. I think it was right for her to choose instead of the other way around because it has more impact that way, showing that Beatrice doesn't need the book to move on with her life. Can't wait for next season! 💜

My favorite part of this season was how nuanced every character was and how much of their personality we got see. Not only that but the development all of them had. "I love Emilia" was a meme before S2 and now her character is so damn good. What a show ❤️

Bro when Emelia jumped in that lake and that shit went into slow motion I almost broke down. Shit was beautiful.

I would only call it a 100% (for me) because it does things that no other anime do. Every single episode was 26-30 minutes. Which is actually insane. In Japan these episodes air on television, and to think this show literally fills the whole time slot, no commercials just speaks volumes to me. The intro was only ever played once, and most the time there is still exposition all the way to the end of the episode because the outro and credits just play as it’s still ongoing. It’s just crazy to me to think that an anime actually just has on average over 27 minutes of straight uninterrupted story telling. That’s why it gets a 100 from me personally.

It wasn't 100% in the moist because there are more to the story and it's not finished yet. But yeah, the extended almost 30 minute episodes are just a pleasure and you can really feel the passion put into the show. The story is unpredictable, and even when the op will play is also unpredictable for the extra minutes, which is crazy.

Haven't even watched Season 2 yet, but I'm hyped for it.

@@annedrieck7316 I think that’s pretty subjective, if you find character development, backstory, and world building boring then thats fair enough. But just because you might find it boring doesn’t mean you can’t appreciate the work put into it, which they clearly did. It isn’t a show that’s made to wow you with it’s fight scenes and action, it’s a show with made with much deeper intentions and that much is obvious simply looking at how this season was solely focused on developing our main cast. Each character feels like a character and fully fleshed out, not some one dimensional trope.

@@davul01 I don’t even think it’s the approach, it’s the content that they put in. Most isekai are escape from reality wish fulfillment, and that really isn’t the case here. Our MC is a pretty uninspiring, underpowered, and flawed yet kind hearted person. Seeing their growth in a world completely alien from their own and watching them struggle and fuck up because of their own shortcomings is really satisfying as a viewer and almost relatable.

Not sure I ever have or ever will see an anime with greater character development done to a protagonist. The writers treated Subaru in this series as if he were a real human being, not this unrealistic ideal of main protagonist who has this unexplained courage to him. Not that long ago in season 1 he was all but on the brink of turning tail and running before Rem convinced him otherwise. Especially with this second season, we really see everything he goes through that gives him the courage and mental fortitude he needs. Realism in anime is such an underrated trait because anime's often seen as a form of escapism where the viewer doesn't want things to get too realistic. But realism makes characters far more relatable and makes their character development fucking FLOURISH.

And i love the characters in general. It isnt character development , but when Subaru repeats the day a thousand times over , you see how they react differently in different situations. No ones "bad" (except that bowel lady ) or good , they have their own priorities and we can really see the different sides of characters . Fucking great show

There’s been so many people talking about it...

Saying every girl falls for him this season, insinuating its like a harem anime is a bit of an extreme stretch. Thinking about it... there are 4 characters in the running for that. Petra, Emilia, Beatrice and Echinda. Petra just has a childish crush on him, a older boy that gallantly saved her and her village. It's not unreasonable. Emilia... is HIS love interest. And at most, she begins to return some of his feelings in season two due to having to rely on him emotionally more. They kiss, but realistically its little if any more than growing closer as friends. Beatrice doesn't romantically love him. She simply chooses him as her liberator, and grows closer to him as the season ends. Echidna is a sociopath, or psychopath. Forget which is which off hand. She doesnt have feeling like normal people, but instead acts out phony feelings. To her, Subaru is simply "very interesting" and desirable for his power alone. She makes some comments like that he knows how to smooth talk or tug on the hearts of witches, but it just non-sense. Really, the best way to look at the characters turning their feeling positively towards Subaru is to take the romance idea out of the view. Subaru's journey is about winning over respect and admiration from people regardless of gender. Thats what S1 did so many characters. Thats what S2 did with Otto, Garfiel and Beatrice. Put another way... Rem is the only one that falls in love with him in the series. And because it seems like a love triangle with Rem, Subaru and Emilia, people have the instinct to want to see every female character that likes him in any way as a love interest.

And I really love the ending of season 1 although I do love the ending of season 2 more but season 1 ending was still great. My favorite parts from season 1 were from when Subaru, Rem, Emilia, and Roswaal went to the city. I really liked that part and when Subaru acknowledges his flaws straight up gave me chills. But hey that's just my opinion but I still really like season 2 too but I just like season 1 just a bit more

I think both seasons are really good in different ways. The first thing that stuck with me in season 2 was when Subaru finally had someone "Echidona" recognize his struggle.

Talking about the anime I like how Subaru is pretty much a legendary hero at this point. From getting humiliated at the capital and losing all trust with everyone to negotiating with all future rulers, fighting the witches cult, defeating an apostle of sin, saving a village/domain and defeating one of the legendary manbeast in less than a day or two. Then this season he meets all the witches, frees the sanctuary, rescue mission against bowel hunter and another apostle, making a contract with a great spirit, fighting another legendary manbeast, defeating the strongest wizard in the kingdom at his own game and finally becoming a royal knight to a future ruler. Ever since he made that first Re:Zero video I’ve been waiting for him to make this.Re:Zero season 2 was amazing and even as a WN reader it was still amazing.

season 3 is going to be better than season 2 if they do it correctly

@@blupuncakes8458 They tried with the extended running time but the material is very long, still very little was missing compare to season 1. Season 3 it's gonna be easier, it's shorter and faster paced.

@@blupuncakes8458 arc 4 was just too huge to just put all the content in it. arc 5 and 6 are shorter (chapter wise) so they can fit more content and can dedicate more time to other stuff as well but i do love the arcs in rezero no doubt about it

Normally Season 2 is better but in anime version if they don't cut anything and do it in high-budget yes Season 3 will surpass it.

Over all season 2 fixed the mistakes it had in season 1 (at least for me) which is pretty rare ngl. And considering the sheer amount of effort it would’ve taken to make this show is pog. Definitely my favorite anime now :)

Yeah it makes sense why it took 4 years now, lol. Not only is the soundtrack extremely vast and high quality, the animation is consistently the same quality, acting is always top tier, the editing is always top tier same as the directing. This show is like a masterclass example of how to make good television.

There are plenty of popular anime that really aren’t all people crack them up to be, Re:Zero is not one of them. The characters are so well written and feel like actual people and not just tropes like so many in other shows. The story is so interesting and there are so many mysteries and puzzles we constantly have to figure out alongside Subaru. I have nothing but praise for this show, alongside Overlord and Konosuba this is my favourite isekai of all time, and one of the top 10 anime I have ever watched.

Man you should read bad reviews about re zero, you are going to laugh so hard I guarantee you. People that hate on it usually like nonstop fights with dumb excuses ( I like Shonen tho) and then there’s people complaining about dialogue and backstories when that’s what the show really is about

Thank you so much, Re:Zero really deserves all the love it gets with 30 minute episodes all the time with skipping the opening and ending just to get the most of the show. U can really tell that the studio (WhiteFox) really loved the show and put so much passion into it

Man just finished season 2 its sooooo fucking good, also episode 48 is so fucking nuts, one of my favorite experiences watching something to date

can we appreciate that the studio, "White Fox", chose to have no commercials/ad breaks and have full 30 min episodes of just content. godly
