On August 8th we heard that the Missouri Pacific Heritage Unit was in Denver and was going to head west, possibly on the Phippsberg Local, there was going to be plenty of traffic, and the weather was clearing up. We started in the afternoon at Fraser; there was an empty coal train (CDREY) in the Winter Park siding and MRONY was in the Tabernash siding, all waiting on Amtrak 6. After #6, the coal train quickly drifted downgrade through Fraser, before the MRONY charged up the grade towards the Moffat tunnel. We caught the CDREY in Byres Canyon, and just after Byres Canyon, near Flat. We tried to catch it again at Kremmling but instead found an eastbound loaded coal train and lots of Work Trains. The Moffat was gearing up for a large maintenance project which included replacing ties and ballast from Denver to Rollins, Replacing Concrete ties from Kremmling to Bond, and replacing wooden ties from Bond to Phippsberg. New concrete ties were being staged at Troublesome and Kremmling. We stayed close to the tracks overnight and found the Missouri Pacific Heritage unit and more trains in the morning, the video can be found here: • Video
