MOFA: U.S. overcapacity claim a case of 'Do as I say, not as I do'

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's accusation of so-called overcapacity against China is the disguise the U.S. uses to suppress others, and it is an act of protectionism under the pretext of "fair competition," Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said on May 14 in Beijing.
Wang's remarks came after Yellen said the United States is very explicitly subsidizing investments in important strategic areas, adding, "What we don't want to see is massive Chinese subsidies to firms with huge overcapacity that will just drive our firms out of business."

I am a retired person who worked in the automotive industry when I was young. Over the years it became obvious that US car companies were not interested in building inexpensive vehicles for the general population. This need was filled by such cars as the VW Beetle, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, etc, and rather than build smalller vehicles at a loss to satisfy government regulations, they would import small cars and sell them under their own nameplate. If Canada and the US are serious about EVs and the environment, they would partner with, and welcome, smaller Chinese made EVs into the marketplace. This would get a large number of EVs on the road as quickly as possible and the the required infrastructure, I.e: charging stations, service and repair facilities, etc. would grow quickly and provide many new jobs. Restrictions could be put in place to protect the high-end products that are produced in North America, and the lower end of the market could be shared with Chinese imports. If the US were willing to stop their cold war with China, this could be a win-win for everyone, especially for the general public.

Did you ask the US oil sheiks before you posted your comment? They are NOT interested in EVs! They don't care about the environment. They only care about their own pockets.

I hope China and US will be friends again. Deep data analysis shows fighting doesn't help both. Both seem to be fated as left hand and right hand to make this world better. I'd recommend China to offer help solving problems US is having. UK and US gave China opportunities for growth so we can't forget that kindness either. On the Western side, you'd need to have people who mean what they say and do as they say. It's important. Reorganize the country with people who are patriots and not yes-men. It's being run like a torn garment everywhere. Ensure a stop to corruption and many things will be solved. As for sales of products, it's like a pie. Just need to figure out who will supply what ingredients and how big of a slice would being peace. Obviously, China can't expect US to give you ingredients and all shares of their pies. This is a war between elites. Frankly, with today's technology, it's not hard to allocate world sales allocations by categories. From there, exchanges can be made. Pointless to have everyone to offer the same and cries surplus production and loss of sales / simply loss 😂 Is the world run by people who had spoiled childhood? Seems like so. Logically, it's a simple issue to solve if neither parties don't think badly of each other before meeting yet be well prepared with data and objectives. That's how it should be.

The United States itself does not represent international public opinion, and neither does the Western world. Whether judged by population scale or the trend of the world, the Western world does not represent the global public opinion. So we hope that when talking about universal values or international public opinion on the part of the United States, we hope the U.S. side will think about whether it feels reassured in saying those things, because the U.S. does not represent the world. It only represents the government of the United States. I don't think the overwhelming majority of countries in the world would recognize that the universal values advocated by the United States or that the opinion of the United States could represent international public opinion, and those countries would not recognize that the rules made by a small number of people would serve as the basis for the international order. So let me say here that, in front of the Chinese side, the United States does not have the qualification to say that it wants to speak to China from a position of strength. The U.S. side was not even qualified to say such things even 20 years or 30 years back, because this is not the way to deal with the Chinese people. PS:There is such a sentence at the end of Yang's speech. So have the Chinese people not suffered enough in the past from the foreign countries? In here 洋人Yángrén is translated into foreign countries. In fact, there is a strong feeling here. English has lost this feeling. This is what the Chinese people called foreign after the Opium War. This word is rarely used after China has entered the era of peace. This word will remind people of the suffering of China in the humiliating 100 years. And such talks are reminiscent of the one that carved up China 120 years ago. The United States was also involved.
