No... Not all the time. Firstly because you don't know all the midfielders since the beginning of football and you don't know who will replace him, and secondly, because there have already been such good attacking midfielders like Maradonna, Zidane, and even today, like De Bruyne.

@@juliuslambert9226 when I said arguably, that means I at nearly 43 of age put him in the same bracket as the very best I’ve seen in my lifetime. You can’t put players from the start of professional football in such a list due to the technicality and pace of modern day football. In the future there could well be better than Modric, but right now he is one of the greatest I know of.

I have to admit, I’m a Barca fan. But this guy holds a special place in my heart. I honestly rate him slightly over Iniesta and Xavi. He’s just so freaking good it saddens me his career at top level football is coming to an end. His trivela passes are the best!

He is not better than Iniesta. Iniesta could have won the Ballon'o Dior, but for the fact that he was on the same team as Messi. Modric could be slightly better than Xavi on the attacking midfield, but Xavi was a better defensive midfielder.

But no matter, if we compare two players, we take into account their position and it is precisely their specificities which then make one or the other a more efficient player. It's so hard for me when I'm trying to rate modric , iniesta and xavi. I'm struggling to see who is 1st, 2nd and 3rd between them. Modric can literally do everything, xavi is a pinpoint passing master and you cant press him, iniesta is magician with dribbling skills. I'd just have all 3 in my midfield 3 lol

Modric dragging Croatia to the WC final and semifinal 4 years later is incredible. I don't think Xavi could do that solo if he was Croatian or Iniesta. If Modric was Spanish and he had Xavi or Iniesta as his partner, it's very likely Modric would have won what Spain won.

It's so hard for me when I'm trying to rate modric , iniesta and xavi. I'm struggling to see who is 1st, 2nd and 3rd between them. Modric can literally do everything, xavi is a pinpoint passing master and you cant press him, iniesta is magician with dribbling skills. I'd just have all 3 in my midfield 3 lol

Modric dragging Croatia to the WC final and semifinal 4 years later is incredible. I don't think Xavi could do that solo if he was Croatian or Iniesta. If Modric was Spanish and he had Xavi or Iniesta as his partner, it's very likely Modric would have won what Spain won.
