Modifying Our NASTY 4x4 Toyota HiLux

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We recently picked up the cheapest Toyota HiLux 4x4 ute we could find. The more we look - the worse it gets! It's a filthy nugget so in this episode we're going to get it looking MAD and add some mods.

Hey MCM, can I suggest you guys rebuild the gearbox for an episode in the future, there not hard to strip down, throw a set of bearing and synchros at it, and replace any gears and shafts with chunks missing. Not terribly hard, but very a satisfying job, that I'm sure your viewer base would really get a kick out of.

I always assumed gearboxes were so complicated you needed an engineer or withcraft to rebuild them, but I've seen some people work on them and it doesn't look overly complicated, maybe I'm wrong though. I'd really be interested in seeing them rebuild it

Yeah I don't think they're are to complex however my dad and I went to rebuild a gearbox from one of theses hilux's and it felt like it wasn't engaging 5th gear but it had sheared the splines off the the shafts. And the price difference between new shafts and a new gearbox was better to go whole new gear box

Life Pro Tip: When going on a mine site, this model Hilux, the air con vents are very easy to pop out to hide your smokes for a non smoking mine. We sent our same model Hilux's pback to Toyota with over 600,000km on the clock- most had at least 3 clutch kits through them, numerous timing belts, chassis was pretty well bemt after 8 years of towing 2 ton+ mud tanks, they smelt like arse after 5 guys farting/ smelling like hydraulic oil/ drilling fluids, gearbox's that whined more than Cheryl about her bestie shagging her brother, and an interior that was permanetly stained blacked.

Having had both a standard Hilux and a rugged X as a work car, I still can't understand the justification for the difference in price compared to the cheaper end of the scale when it comes to 4x4 utes (excluding the Chinese market of course). although the worst offenders are definitely the Aussie utes as much as I like them. I've run into a similar gearbox issue, it was bad in all but 4th (the others would get worse the higher the gear). What this is, is that 4th is normally a 1:1 output special shaft, and the rest use gears, and what you need is a bearing kit. I'll be doing a video for my XR6 ute's gearbox with the exact same issue, so it shouldn't be too hard for you with your hoist :)

I've always defined it as "antenna" being the description of a component, like a capacitor or diode. an aerial is a type of antenna, specifically one that is out in the air. so, the stick on your bull bar, or a bit of wire out your window tied to a tree, or your TV antenna are all aerials. there are other ways of turning radio waves into electricity (which is what an antenna does). your smartphone, playstation controller, garage door openers all have antennas in them, but not aerials.

The way of sponsorship and getting good income for doing KZread videos for a living, do what the sponsorship tells you and allow them to take control alittle. I have a CB that I use on the occasional off road trip. Instead of hardwiring it, i put a cigarette lighter plug on the power wires. Then you can just plug it into the 12v plug when you need it. then mount it to the windshield with a suction cup mount and run the antenna line though the door seal to a magnetic mount antenna. it's all quick to remove and store when I don't need it.
