Modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650: Cafe racer motorcycle mods

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Here's a closer look at our 2020 modified Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, a modern classic cafe racer. In this video, I go over every modification done since we purchased this bike brand new one year ago.
Most of the mods were done by me and my husband in our garage. There were a few done with the help of professionals: fork gaiter install, parts powder coating and (the big one) a rear fender chop.

// ABOUT ME
I've been riding motorcycles since 2013. My first bike? A little tangerine-orange scooter. Over the years, I've owned several motorcycles (some I've since sold) but am currently riding three - a 2013 Suzuki TU250X, 2009 Buell Lightning XB12SCG and 2020 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650. I've learned a lot in my motorcycling journey, but have so much room to grow! Come along for the ride as I explore the open road on two wheels, chat about my experiences learning to ride and being a woman motorcyclist, get my hands dirty with motorcycle maintenance and modifications - and more!

    The bike looks and sounds great. Your elegant fix for the rear hoop that sticks out past the seat is the first thing I would do. I hate the way it looks from the factory. Super job on that! All the other mods look good as well. My only other thought is not to paint the wheels black. I think the silver matches the pipes really well and makes the bike look "lighter"...but I know lots of other folks would disagree as black wheels seem to be the popular choice these days. Anyway...hope you enjoy the bike and thanks for all your posts. Color me...Subscribed.

I sold my VTX 1300, now I'm looking at lighter, more nimble bikes. I really do like the Conti GT, in BRG, so now I'm looking for one. Is there a place where you've documented your upgrades? Sure would appreciate it. Thanks.

    Good to see the reassurance I can mount a center-stand. The salesman didn't know 4sure but at my first service the factory rep just happened to be visiting and he said it can be fit. I like to go sit on my old CX500 on the stand in a landing-area to watch the river go by leaning back on my carry-box with my feet up on the bars and would like to do the same with the GT. Then when it's time to leave I just fire 'er up, put it in gear and a little body-"English" takes me off the stand and I ride away. It's sort of a "signature" with me as well as the "flying dismount which keeps me on the left peg so I'm high-enough to clear the box with my right-leg. Then I'm right where I need to be to put it up on the stand. I'm loving the Enfield so-far. 3yrs unlimited-miles + the road-service speaks 2me of a company which has faith in what they're selling. When I got my unexpected financial windfall ( just precisely covering all costs including the sales-tax, first service, registration &c.) I got the last one in-stock late 2021 and saved a couple hundred$$ over the next allotment price. When I was told they had one I got it insured B4 I ever even saw the bike. I'm feeling really good about this decision. The folks at Gateway BMW have a nice "culture". Kudos to Royal Enfield! I like your mods---looks great! Keep it rubber-side down!

    Nice! When putting higher flow pipes on a bike, I would definitely put a high flow D&A air filter on it as well; sure the pipes sound good, but why not get better throttle response and that wonderful intake sound as well? No need for flashing the ECU or anything, just put the new filter and bracket on, let the bike run from cold to warm running temp; approximately 15 minutes WITHOUT revving, then go for a gentle run and voilá; done! Just makes the in-breath be as efficient as the out-breath!

    Hi Joy, you mentioned that it's a bit tall , do check out 'tec bike parts' UK or US, they have rear shocks which could reduce the height by 40mm + , and they're pretty good too, preload and rebound adjustable. I have installed them and they're reasonably priced. I feel a lot more confident when flat footed. Cheers

  • @JoyonaBike

    @JoyonaBike

    2 жыл бұрын

    You might be able to lower them more, it would require removing the upper triple tree. But they might end up being too low and the cables might not even allow them to be pushed down further. From what we’ve read, the ECM will adjust so we left the fuel map as is.

    @@JoyonaBike Yes, but thea are very small, here in in Europe you can see several bikes with small indicators close to the rear lights and or close to the center of the bike and when driving behind one and in the glare of the sun or when the rear lights are on, they are sometimes difficult see. I used to ride bikes and I always made shure that the rear lights and indicators were separated from each other and not to small so there was/is no mistake what was what. On a bike you do not have that much protection.

    I had a tu250x like you that I made in to a cafe racer, and am on the edge of putting a deposit down on a GT650. You said it’s a nice upgrade, could you elaborate on that? I’m curious about comfortable cruising at higher speeds, and how the size/weight might differ? Anyway awesome video here, thank you!

    Apologies for the late response - did you end up going with the GT650? I actually talked a bit about the 650 being an upgrade from the TU in my 1000 Q&A video! > If you'd like to watch that section: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fpqmrKepmsbZgto.html < I think it'll help answer your question. But as far as cruising at higher speeds, the GT650 is able to while the TU may not be able to depending on certain factors like the road, wind, weight of the rider.

    Here is the link for the LED tail light: shop.revivalcycles.com/flexible-turn-and-brake-led-tail-light/. Because we already had a relay on the bike and the shop did the installation, I'm not sure if you need a relay for this tail light. If you're looking for a relay, we bought ours on Amazon.
