Modification of Parkside PMSG 200 A1 MIG/MAG/MMA welder | Part 1 - Cables and Choke

In this part you will see: Replacement of all internal power cables with 25 mm2 copper conductors and addition of an extra choke for higher inductance. I also made a new 25 mm2 Cu ground cable with a 200A clamp.
After modification the welder welds more smoothly. Because of the extra choke, it fires better when spotting lower currents and sizzles less.
The aluminium cables inside the welder are approximately 1 m long and have five connections with poor quality thin flat crimp connectors. There is a voltage drop across them.
I make all modifications so that they can be returned to their original state.
To replace the internal cables: About 1 - 1,2 m of 25 mm2 welding cable, 2 pieces of crimp cable eye ring terminal 25/6mm and 3 pieces of crimp cable eye ring terminal 25/8mm. If you also want to add a choke, then you can use a 13uH, 180 A choke like FERYSTER DEHF-42/0.012/180.
To make the ground wire: 3m (or as required) of 25 mm2 welding wire, a welding clamp with a good quality copper jaw (200A or 350A), and a 10/25 cable welding terminal.

For inverters, it is not good to overdo it with a large inductance of the chokes, because a large inductance can create an overvoltage at large currents and voltages on the rectifier side and blow up diodes or other sensitive semiconductors in the final stage and destroy the device !!

Yes the induction is very inportant for clean weld. I bought chinese copy of Everlast with button for induction adjusment, was skeptic about it if work, but yes its working, dont know why parkside didnt make in that way. The welder cost me 200 euros.

These modifications cost me about 45 Euros. The welder cost me 158 Euros, which is 203 Euros in total. For 200 there is nothing else that welds better. All welders that weld naturally better cost twice that price. In doing so, even some welders for 380 - 480 Euros have aluminum wires and aluminum grounding cables and less good pliers in them. In any case, the investment has paid off.

The airflow is a calculated matter. It is not adviced to change it by lowering the flow. Electronica getting really hot and need to cool otherwise they will burn up. The best way to lower the noise is to buy a silent one.

This is all true, but it relates to heavy use of the welder. I use the welder mostly without a fan and have not managed to overheat it yet. When it overheats, the indicator light comes on and shuts off. It has its own thermal protection. When I'm not using it at full power but only at 40 - 60 amps, or when spotting, or clamping the structure before welding, or when I'm doing short welds with breaks, I don't need the fan to run constantly and suck dust. I can just turn it off, and not even feel the welder heat up. When I'm welding at 130 amps and long welds, I'll add the fan speed.

@@Tech-3D sorry, not a very good argument. Overheated electronisch will break much earlier than cooled ones. Does the fan irritatie you? Replace it by a silent one with the same capacity. @@HanD_1964 In the case of the Parkside welder, I disagree. The point is that the load capacity quoted by the manufacturer is understated, in practice there is no overheating when used according to the load table. Another factor is that the thermal protection value is on the low side and does not even reach the semiconductor operating temperature limits. Another factor is that if you were to closely examine the parameters of the fan used, you would find that there is no fan available that has the same static air pressure and the same air flow with less noise. There are only a few Panasonic fan models with the same parameters as the mounted noisy fan but their price is worth a third of the price of the welder. If the welder were to break down sooner, that is not a problem because it would have to break down before the 3 year warranty period. In practice, however, Parkside welders break down to a manufacturing defect in the semiconductors or Mosfets, or to a short circuit rather than overheating. However, this is exactly the opposite of the case with Parkside power tools, which suffer from overheating of the windings of the stator motors and rotors in angle grinders.

  • @Tech-3D

@@HanD_1964 Automatic fan speed control is not a compromise. Automatic temperature control means disconnecting all connectors from the motherboard, removing the motherboard, drilling a hole in the heatsink, installing the thermistor - temperature sensor and controller. Basically, I have no problem to rebuild even this PWM controller for temperature based control in a few minutes. But all this means LOSS OF WARRANTY. All modifications to the welder, in case of failure quickly, I did as easily reversible and quickly putting it in its original state, without interference to the electronics. It's just an idea, it's not a guide or a recommendation. Whoever wants to, do it their own way, maybe with temperature control or replace the fan or leave it that way.

This welder is primarily intended for MIG welding! You didn't help it by introducing the induction coil, you modified the MMA method as much as possible, which is secondary on this welder and it doesn't make sense to use it much. But you did a lot of damage to the MiG method which is primary and more important! This welder is very well tuned from the factory!!! It does not need another induction! and by introducing the induction coil without measurement, you greatly disturbed the regulation of the output voltage and its rapid stabilization in the MIG process. By senseless modification of a perfectly tuned welding machine, you have degraded and devalued it! Here you do not understand the principle in electronic devices at all and you manipulate the public in meaningless expensive modifications, the only good thing is to change the cable

Takže ide len o inšpiráciu a ukážku práce.

Okrem tlakovej fľaše potrebuješ ešte redukčný ventil a plynovú hadičku do zváračky.

Hello, thanks for the video, i am just waiting on parts to make this modification. Should we solder the wires directly to choke ? or is it possible to use some connector to choke that is crimped on wires ? What about the welding torch ? is it ok or should be replaced for something better ? What about the ferule to use in the 10-25 quick connector? any specs or we can use anything.

  • @Tech-3D

    @Tech-3D

    2 жыл бұрын

Hey. It is best to solder the choke, it is designed for that and has tin coated winding ends. The connectors are unusable, due to the high currents that flow in the circuit. It is still possible to fix the cable to the choke by drilling holes in the winding cubes for an M3 - M4 screw and tightening it with a screw joint. The welding torch is ok, just replace some better quality tip there. The 10-25 quick couplers are standard, copper, nothing special.
