Modesty in Church | Outfit Ideas | Orthodox Christian
Hello! If you are new, welcome to my channel. If you are returning, welcome back!
This week I wanted to talk about modesty in church. Our focus in the Orthodox Christian Church is to pray and to seek repentance. We also strive to honor God and our neighbor. One big way that we can do this presenting ourselves in modesty and put together. Our goal is not to look drop dead gorgeous but rather to seek attire that will compliment ourselves, while NOT giving opportunity for others to stumble. In this video I have some outfit ideas along with some encouraging scripture verses.
If you like the video please give it a thumbs up and share it with a friend!

Glad your here!
Thank you dear sister. We should also look to the ikons of the female saints. Long sleeves and modest necklines are also a good idea; and keeping our long hair out of sight makes things less distracting to our brothers and sisters in church. Lord Jesus Christ Son of God have mercy on me a sinner.

Amen. Leaning on the side of modesty in church is always a good idea. In some environment (such at here in Southern California) the weather is hot and puts strain on the body so wearing lighter clothes helps prevent overheating. As with much of our Spiritual life it is always best to consult a priest as they will have a balanced and tailored approach to where we are in our spiritual walk. May God have mercy on us all! ❤
Thank you, beloved of Christ, for this important and well done video. It is important to remember that the ideal of modesty can vary by parish. For example, in Alaska in the winter, it's okay for ladies to remove their outer shoes and stand thru liturgy in their socks; but standing in non-opaque hose or wearing sandals or other shoes that show the 'naked' foot, are frowned upon all year round. Most ladies in AK wear headcoverings, a few do not, and the rest of us can only suppose that's between them and their Spiritual Fathers, right? Non-native ladies wearing a covering might wear a small kerchief or large, enveloping scarf; while native ladies most often choose the hair bow and doily that was taught to them when Orthodoxy first arrived. The Russian priests at the time seemed to favor this. Praise God, He allows us to honor Him with our whole being!

Amen! Beautifully said! It really does vary parish to parish and it is so important that we don't fall into the trap of judging others for how they dress. Here in Southern California it is difficult to wear clothes that cover every part of your body as it gets very hot and could be dangerous to not wear clothes that are light and breathable! At the end of the day it is between a person, God and their priest, how they dress and it is important for us to not judge others as we do not know their situation or their spiritual walk! It could be a miracle that they are even coming to church to begin with! ❤ Thank you for your great words!
Amen Praise the lord ☦️🛐
This is great thank you very much our sister in Christ!

Your welcome! Thank you for the kind words. ❤ I am Cradle-Orthodox. My parents converted when I was an infant!
Fun fact: men have only been wearing pants to church for a few hundred years. And many never have. I'll wear a dress to church to be a traditional man.
Theotokos Holy Virgin Mary with you! :)

Thank you! The small triangle one I purchased in a pack from Etsy. The dark purple and light pink ones, I was gifted. Etsy has some nice options. Hope that helps! :)

If you have resale shops in your area, I’ve found good deals there where I live. Dollar Tree also sells lightweight scarves in seasonal colors in my region.
Beautiful video thank you for this :) do you have any links where we can get the dresses shown in the video ?

Thank you for watching! I looked up the dresses and unfortunately most of them are not longer available. Much of my clothes come from thrift stores or second hand. I wish you luck with your search!
i don’t really go here (i’m baptist) but i interpret the scripture you quoted to be about flashiness? don’t show off gold and expensive garb but instead dress modestly in terms of finance

Thank you for watching! Yes, one of the Scriptures mentioned talks about not being flashy which is something that we can be not just by wearing gold and jewels but also we can be flashy in our attitudes. We can be completely cover our bodies and yet be flashy in the way we conduct ourselves. Modestly in our outward appearance as well as in our conduct is important in our lives as Christians.
Can women wear pants to church?

Personally I don't like to but that would be a question to ask a Priest as they will have more knowledge on that then me.

I know you can’t wear them at a monastery. And men cannot wear short sleeves or short pants. Not sure about regular churches.
Initially the body covering was not foreseen but unfortunately after the forbidden fruit nudity has become a sin and now god wants us to be dressed

Indeed. When we are born, we come into this world naked. The human form is not something to be despised but because of the fall, it is important for men and women to be careful not to cause an opportunity for our fellow brothers and sisters to stumble. God has wonderfully created us and to show honor and respect to Him and others, we should be mindful of how we are presenting ourselves. Our goal is not to show off ourselves but to show glory to God! Thank you for watching!
Dear sister Clothes you have displayed as modest are not really modest in all aspects. The top of the dresses should be loose fitting with decent neck line . a stole or over coat covering will be modest. The modesty of the dress at the top is as important as the decent length of the dress . Kindly understand this feature. Modest attire all the time, covering the hair while praying are not only to keep away lust but it is to honour God and to honour ones own body which is said to be the temple of the living God. 1 cor 3:16,17 It is good you thought of making a video with this teaching on modesty

Thank you for watching and for your feedback. As with everything in our Christian walk it is best to consult your Spiritual Father and to seek his advice if there is any confusion on how we should conduct ourselves as Christians. Modestly is not just how we dress but also how we conduct ourselves and remembering to remain humble.
Excuse me , if you try to be a model of modesty at least stay inside the orthodox modesty rules: covered knees. Everything that shows the knees is too short to be called modest by Orthodox Church standards
