In Islam, both men and women are required to dress modestly. However, Muslim women have special clothes which they sometimes choose to wear in order to protect their modesty. Many Muslim women wear a hijab or veil to protect their modesty. Not all Muslim women choose to do this. In the UK this is matter of choice. Some Muslim women wear a niqab or a burkha. Not all Muslim women choose to do this. In the UK this is a matter of choice. Men have no requirement to dress in this way, but men are required to be modest in the way they dress.

*There are two types of modesty: Spiritual and physical* *The Spiritual aspect is true 1000% and is made perfectly clear all throughout the Bible. It shows in the way we act and treat one another. It's what we carry in our hearts and minds and spirits. This is what God cares about and what we should be striving towards.* *Physical modesty is a lie. It's nothing but a man made ideology designed to manipulate and control one another due to our lust for power. It's based on ignorance and our lack of understanding of what our bodies truly represent. This has no basis in the Bible or science.*

I questioned this for years, but as expected, Father Ripperger removed all doubt. I always much preferred wearing pants, as they gave me the sense that I could conquer the world. Year after year I asked internally and also priests about the appropriateness of wearing pants (even FSSP priests). All said pants are fine. I still couldn't help but wonder if Our Lady was referring to pants, among other fashions, when she told the visionaries that fashions would be introduced that would greatly offend Her Son. Still wearing pants, I began researching why and when women began wearing them. I learned it began as a deliberate rebellious act against social norms of the day. This summer, still wearing pants, I was determined to get an affirmative answer, HOPING the answer would be "pants are fine." I started a novena to St. Therese. I asked the Saint, "Please send me flowers if there is no way to wear pants that won't offend your Son." 45 minutes later, my daughter showed up with a bouquet of roses that had a most beautiful scent (I'm told it's rare to find roses nowadays that have that scent). When I told my daughter what had just happened she herself was stunned and excited...until I told her what the question and answer were!! :) I now wear a nursing scrub skirt at the hospital (and boy I stand out), but much to my surprise all responses have been positive. I offer it up to Our Lady, especially on the days I want to throw a pair of pants on.

*Nowhere in the Bible does it say that our bodies cause others to sin, that's a misinterpretation. The Bible is clear that our bodies are made in God's image and, because of that, we're the crown jewel of His creation. That's why there was no shame in nudity but we've lost sight of that but that doesn't mean that truth changes. Hebrews 13:8 tells us that Jesus is the same yesterday and today and tomorrow so if He thought our bodies were shameless yesterday, He still believes this today. Yes we have to cover certain areas of our bodies when we're in public because we'll get arrested for indecent exposure if we don't but clothing isn't God's creation nor was it ever intended by Him so it's not a priority of His. 1 Samuel 16:7 says WE LOOK AT PHYSICAL APPEARANCE WHILE GOD LOOKS AT THE HEART ❤ and that couldn't be any more true. David, Esther, Isaiah and Adam and Eve (before the fall) were all elevated when they embraced their natural beauty (bodies) so our bodies are not shameful "stumbling blocks", they're glorious elevation tools.*

No one tells you that skirts are actually more comfortable and practical than jeans in a lot of circumstances. Its much harder to get jeans that fit at the waist and the hip than it is to get a skirt that fits at the waist and is free at the hips. Shoe selection can be just as comfortable and practical as well. The exceptions, in my experience, are skirts that are short/tight enough to make it difficult to sit down or in the dead of winter without appropriate layers. Dresses are even easier - you dont even have to match an outfit.

*Read your Bible and you'll see it says that God created us nude with no shame. This was because in God's ideal world, we embrace our bodies as a physical reflection of God's spirit. God is an artist and we're His art 🎨 therefore, when you embrace yourself, you embrace Him. The reason Adam and Eve immediately hated themselves after they sinned and covered themselves is because they, in sinning, turned away from God and therefore turned away from themselves since their bodies reflected God. God didn't give them clothes because He chose to and He was "covering us in His glory"; that entire context was telling us about how we fell out of His glory. Clothing only came into play when shame, brokenness, evil, and sin did meaning that it's a symbol of these things and the broken bond between God and man. Being ashamed of your image is being ashamed of God's and He didn't create us to be ashamed of His masterpiece and bury it down to where nobody can see it, He created us to display our art in a museum and be happy when someone gazes upon our beauty. That's why people like David, Esther and Isaiah all got elevated when they did this but Vashti, Micah and Isaiah's critics, who bashed them for it, got kicked to the curve. That's also why people today, who flaunt their bodies, make it big while people who bash them fade into nothing.*

But I am trying to wear more dresses, and always to Mass. It does make me feel feminine and pretty. But I certainly stand out. Not many others doing the same.

Dear Fr. Ripperger, I'm nearly 76 years of age. I graduated HS in 1967. Not until 1968 were female students permitted to dress in "slacks" (NEVER called "pants"). I dressed in skirts or dresses up until 1968. One of the problems: disgusting male teachers who sat female students in front rows to look at their legs and up their skirts/dresses. Can you imagine how that made the female students feel? Can you really? I learned early on in life that most men do not know how to look at a woman properly, even when a woman wears a dress or skirt. Also, slacks keep a woman's legs warm in winter. Consider the necessity of a woman wearing slack for sports. She can't very well do gymnastics in a skirt or dress, now can she? A woman can very much still "look" feminine wearing slacks. A woman can, of course, dress modestly wearing slacks. I don't condone tight clothing, neither for women or men. Tight clothing detracts from the beauty of the human body. I sometimes Substitute Teach and am appalled at the way some female middle school students come to class, dressed as if they were going to the beach. Unfortunately, there are laws forbidding teachers to say anything to these students. Sometimes, I can't help myself, and say out loud while passing in the hallways: "You forgot to get dressed." "Put on a blouse." "This isn't a beach." "Go home and get dressed." Or to some male students: "Pull up your pants." Sometimes I write the word, "modesty" on the board. "For your homework, look up the meaning of the word "modesty." I don't understand why there is no dress code in public schools. A benefit of wearing a uniform in Catholic schools is modest dress.

The other day someone at the grocery store told me I didn’t need to help her get her grocery cart because I must be tired from working all day. I said, no it’s fine I’m a homemaker. She said wow you look dressed up for grocery shopping. I feel better when I take care of myself, my home, and my family. As Fr. I know of someone who fell into SA due in great part to a resentment towards the rejection of immodest women. He is now trying to live a Catholic life. But the interesting thing is that he finds well dressed and modest feminine women attractive. I think Fr Ripperger is right, that changing the way we dress in society will really help fix things. I know that when I wear a tie and a waste coat, I feel normal and taller. When I just throw on an untucked shirt without even a neckerchief, I end up feeling lousy and weird looking. I am not saying that fashion fixes everything. But it makes sense that it has a greater influence than we think.

I totally agree with you, if people dressed with more effort, it would change how we treat others. I usually wear skirts and dresses, but I wear modest pants sometimes. One time when I was a girl, my dad took me shopping at the mall and we were waiting for the bus to go home. Some guys were goofing around and one of them told the others to knock it off because “a lady is present”. I think I was wearing pants when this happened, so pants can be modest and ladylike.

@@theresaarnold8911 Yes, exactly. Thank you for sharing. It is interesting to see, from looking at pictures, how the way we dress has degraded over time. In trying to dress better it can be difficult to find the balance. On the one hand I don't want to dress too old fashioned, since that could draw a lot of attention and be immodest. But I don't wish to be too laxed either. The strategy I have at the moment is to at minimum wear a collared shirt. I try to wear some sort of neckwear when I go out, and usually a waste coat. I find that as long as the colours are mostly neutral, it doesn't stand out too much. It stands out a little, but in a positive way. I do at times wear brighter ties if at night time. It must be even more difficult for ladies to figure out that balance than for men.

@@starhunter9085 You mention God but say modesty is "an absolute joke". So you must also think of the holy scriptures as "an absolute joke", because God speaks through them and requires that we dress modestly. He is not against wearing expensive clothing or looking beautiful. But as much as we should, our manner of dress should not look immoral or indecent. We must display humility and the fear of God in every aspect of our lives. Also: "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. You must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble." Also: "The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them". So modesty is not an "idea" as you call it, but a Godly, Biblical virtue.

I don't take painkillers although I had a small glass of vermouth with my lunch to ease the pain. Try to find orthopedic shoes that aren't too ugly. I live in Israel so I can't recommend brands although I got some Hush Puppy sandals that are comfortable and not too ugly. But my closed ones are sort of Mary Janes in a faux snakeskin. A bit old ladyish but not too frumpy. With a nice dress, and accessories, I can manage them. Unless you have a fantastic figure, and then that brings up other issues, Trousers can make women our age look frumpy especially if they are loose fitting. Stick to dresses.

With all due respect, I have a question in regards to women dressed in trousers. I know Fr. Ripperger and many priests now admire St. Joan of Arc and even Fr. Ripperger reference her a lot in her dutiful work of Gods will. Would this sermon validate the clergy for her inquisition of heresy based on her attire in a solder's gear being an abomination against God? And also, how is messy clothes always a reflection of spiritual sloth. Werent great saints before us, cared less about the frocks and frills, but focused on virtues. I cant imagine Blessed Mother being bothered by fashion, or St. Francis of Assisi who gave up his family's wealth for a life of a transient, or even St. Joseph of Cupertino worried about what he wore. I underatand the decorum correlation to dress codes, but I dont think Christ cared too much about whether someones clothes is nicely pressed, pleated, or washed when he walked the desert in a robe that wasnt always clean, and touching leperds. Virtue of mortification comes to mind here in terms of mortifying our visual senses that we don't always have to have everything visually appealing to us. Correct? Modesty from perversion is understandable, but thats about as far as I would teach in decorum, using reason. This is one homily I would have to somewhat disagree with Fr. Ripperger. I love him, 3 Hail Marys for him, but there is a contradiction in this when we reference past great saints who wouldnt fit the bill of this here, sermon.

  • @elainegoolsby9902

💌 There is no contradiction. St. Francis was a friar who took a vow of poverty. Joan of Arc was given a job by God, so she went as a soldier, in military attire! As for nurses, it was more comforting to have a nurse in a crisp, white, dress uniform than in scrubs. Pants are not more comfortable than a dress. Make what ever excuse you want for how you dress, but I know that Father speaks the truth. I am woman, and I choose to dress like my Mother Mary dressed. She did all manner of work in a modest dress. God bless all women who choose to dress modestly. Men will treat you like a lady, you will be respected and honored.💗🙏😇

Well in the case of st. Joan she was called to a specific duty and all soldiers where protective material and overall proper attire. Religious have taken the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience so it's best not to use them as examples per se. Although I would have loved more clarification on this topic I am sure this is directed at the laity as all religious would have their own standards to follow. I however find that pants are more comfortable and it's my preference though I would be open to things like robes and cloaks. I just simply wish more stuff like that was available as I can hardly find anything. As to whether things are pressed or not to the T is not of importance in my opinion for daily life unless we had to consider a special circumstance perhaps

@@angelalemos9811 Then the sermon would be addressed specific to someone's vocation rather than their gender role as there are so many women now who have St. Joan as their patron saint, women who work their families farms, etc. And those who have those vocations shouldnt not be made to feel like they are sinning if their vocation requires proper gear because not all are called upon as a homemaker, housewife, or nun. Modesty is understandable, but I think its reaching to think God would consider pants on a women would condemn her to Hell... not like she identifies as a man or has interest in the same gender as God would careless how educated one is but moreso on their ability to love in charity of his name and their virtues. When men went to World War 1 and 2, many men died and it left women to take vocations generally for men to help run their household and this country working in what was once male dominated industries. I am not trying to beat the Feminazi drum, but I would assume God is much more merciful in this aspect than we give him credit to be. This day and age, more women are taking on male vocations who are Catholics or became Catholic later on because society has made men weak by lust, media distractions, etc and someone has to pull double the weight, not by choice, but necessity

Well, we all believed the nice little myth of the Holy Family being poor. They were not. The Blessed Mother came from a Priestly family and the priests were well provided for by the tithe. Also, while they did not own land, they could engage in business and their wives certainly could, Proverbs 31 women. In fact, Jewish tradition tells us they did. Jesus wasn't born in a stable because they couldn't afford a room, it was all part of God's plan. So my point is while Mary didn't adopt the fashions of the Romanized women, she wore good clothing of good fabric and craft in traditional Jewish style. Francis was something else, He adopted poverty clothing as a penance.

Hello, At the beginning of the video, the preacher says "holy ghost". I've never heard that before, "holy spirit" yes, but "holy ghost" never. Is there a difference or is it synonymous ? In French there is only one way to say it, wich is "Saint Esprit". The litteral translation of "ghost" in French is "fantôme", which means the surnatural manifestation of a dead person. It seems weird to me to call the holy spirit holy ghost...

The men during weekday Masses attending in shorts; however, I do not judge them, I just say the same thing Jesus said on the Cross, but I direct the plea to Jesus to forgive them, since they don't know what they are doing. If the priests do not say a word, it is also because no one has brought it up to the priest. In a bulletin, parishioners are asked not to go directly to the one dressed offensively, but to bring it up to the priest. And then there are other priests (yes, traditional) who caution us as parishioners not to judge the others by their attire.

Father Ripperger has so much of importance to say I am surprised he's wasted his breath on this lightweight topic. I am a women. I don't wish I was male. But I have never wished to "attract" a man. "Feminine" clothing has its place. But you should dress to please yourself, not any man. I am happy wearing modest trousers and tops and dressing appropriately for each occasion. I look utterly ridiculous in a dress so I never wear one. What women wear is their business, not any mans. And I am not a feminist. I don't understand the psyche of women who want to look and behave like slobbish men. All Catholic priests should periodically remind their congregations that they should not come into church wearing shorts, leggings, tank tops or spaghetti strap tops/dresses and have their upper arms and butts covered. And perhaps priests should be told to follow those rules as well. When I went to Saturday morning mass my parish priest was messing about on the altar before mass wearing Bermuda shorts, a polo shirt and open toe sandals. Then he nipped off, threw on his vestments and returned to start the mass.

Of course, it get's a little up, but I don't think that should be a problem because anyways you should always try to use some kind of underwear that covers a little in case you fall or an emergency where you have to run (fire, earthquakes, you might need to hold the dress so that it doesn't drape that far or makes you trip), also having tight shorts protects from shaffing and if you have to hold the kids in such an emergency you are able to clip it under the short so that it doesn't drape that far away.... I strongly disagree with timestamp 12:42 "It has become the general custom of women to wear pants today." That's not custom Father. It's the custom of Chinese women to wear pants, under their long garment, and even Our Lady of Shee Shan has pants, but it is not a Western custom to wear pants but a Western perversion brought on by militant Marxists in the fashion industry and television programming. The custom here in North America going back hundreds of years is long dresses. Our culture is what our grandparents and their parents and their parents did, not what our current degenerate society is doing. It has to be because the women in the area where I'm living all wear leggings, with very rare exceptions. I refuse to believe that that is culture. That's perversion, so it begs the question, "What is culture, or custom, which is formed by culture?" And the answer that I've come to is, "It's the thing we've been doing for a long long time, and that dear Father is wearing long dresses, not pants." God bless you! Ave Maria.

  • @StellaLuscia

The art portrayed in the video doesn’t look like the type of art created to incite lust. Nudity in religious artworks is sometimes used but isnt necessarily wrong or gross. It can be used to share a certain message or to display the beauty of the human form. So, I don’t see the art being ugly as you mentioned. But modesty does still apply to art, and there are boundaries in the type of messages the artist can share while still preserving a sense of modesty. If the artist degrades the human person to just their bodily features, then yes that would seem gross and immoral. But, if they were depicting something like a scene of Adam and Eve in the garden, then it wouldn’t be wrong for the figures to be unclothed, so long as the artist does not attempt to focus excessively on their bodies.
