Build Article w/ Measurements : craftedworkshop.com/blog/mode... In this video, I'll show you how to build a modern Walnut and leather stool. This was a pretty simple build, but I absolutely love the way it turned out. This was my first attempt at leatherwork and certainly won't be my last.

Hi, This project took me back to being at school. and as I am 66 now that is a long time ago. Anyway the reason that I thought about school is that my first woodwork project was to make a folding seat and it looked just like yours except it folded up for transport. I used that seat for many years as I was also an avid angler and went fishing every weekend.

Cool looking bench, Johnny. Nice tip on finding the center of a dowel. I probably learned that at some point in the past. I'm definitely going to remember that one. I was thinking you were going to drill a counter bore in the leg for the dowel. But it's probably not needed. Great job as always!

Nice chair! Alittle expensive to build once you buy the leather and tools and wood. I'd do oak or maple dowel pins going all the way through just to add an extra contrast in color that would look good. Well done Vid!

@craftedworkshop
7 жыл бұрын
+Jack Mortimer yea I bet they would. Brass rivets don't seem super common, guessing they're not very strong. Thanks!
I wonder if over time the leather will wear and start to sag more ( already quite loose) and the seat wont be as comfortable ?
@craftedworkshop
7 жыл бұрын
+Wabi Sab - E we'll see. I can always switch to a bigger dowel if it does. The leather is super thick though, and you want a little sag for more comfort.

Hi Johnny, I really enjoy watching your channel and videos. Where did you get that compass? That's really kool. I would like to get one like that. And the project is great 👍😊. It seems easy to do? Nice work 👌

I think brass rivets would have looked a little better given how you connected the dowels, but this is an amazing stool nonetheless!

I agree. I have just discovered your channel and have been binge watching your videos. I love your presentation style but often think some of the finishing touches (such as the aluminium rivets) could be better. I'm not trolling, I understand you're against the clock making the videos. I just think that if you are forced to compromise, you should have a "If I'd had time/a chance to do this again, I would have done blah blah blah" in your closing piece so us mere mortals have more confidence if we try it.
@craftedworkshop
7 жыл бұрын
+liammc47 generally these finishing touches are completely up to the builder. There's really not a right or wrong way for a lot of these things, so they're decisions you need to make for yourself.
Did you remove this from your website? I can't find it
The stool turned out cool, its just a shame you had to use pop rivets instead of brass leather rivets. i get it...arrow is the sponsor...but i would drill those out now that the video is done and throw some brass leather rivets in their place.
@craftedworkshop
6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, you never see the bottom so it doesn't matter. I like the look of the aluminum rivets and they were super simple to install. Thanks!
This is most definitaly not a modern stool by far...this concept has been used for many many years.....but its very nice...
@craftedworkshop

+Robert Brand it's the design that makes it modern in my idea.
Hey Johnny, How would you modify this build so that it was collapsible?
@NirvanaWoodWorksbyJanie
7 жыл бұрын
@joseph goad, maybe use dowels, where the half laps meet across both so it could swivel/collapse. I wouldn't glue the dowels though, bc doing so would defeat the purpose. Maybe on the ends make some sort of accent wood cap to secure them from falling off or use some of those same accent brass bolts to secure them. I'm sure there's another method but that's just how I'd do it.
@craftedworkshop
7 жыл бұрын
+joseph goad I would find some hardware that would work. Probably just find a director's chair at Goodwill and pull the hardware from it. You could make it work pretty easily I think.
