Modern Minuteman Loadout: Sustainment Load

Ойындар

Today we’ll be doing part 2 of the Modern Minuteman Loadout, going over the sustainment load (what's in my ruck).
In the unlikely (but not impossible) scenario of US citizens needing to take up arms to defend their country, how would you outfit a modern minuteman?
Now this is a scenario many of us in the 2A community often ponder, wondering which kit/gun would be best in XYZ scenario.
My background is that I was a infantryman in the 75th Ranger Regiment, so often this influences my loadout decisions.
So in today’s video I’ll be going over the kit I would grab in a SHTF scenario, based on my experience as both an infantryman, and as a civilian.
Enjoy!

In NC where can you go to train on public land with fully kit? Sorta like how there’s BLM land or forest service land out west. I’m wanting to start but even the flat range is the most hands on training besides just going regular camping.

Speaking to the weight, my ruck in OSUT was not allowed to be under 65lbs- and we were not given any ammo. It’s extremely easy for a soldier to accrue weight when planning to operate for prolonged periods through variable climate/weather patterns. Sleep system, ECWCS, water, couple MREs, all this stuff adds ounces and ounces make pounds. Shave weight when and where you can but also come to terms with heavy weights.

*sigh* I've been so hesitant to go over my sustainment load because I feel like it's either such a standardized thing it doesn't bear talking about, or it's geared toward situations so remotely likely that it doesn't matter much. But I think I might just have to do one specific toward a swampy/wet environment. Also, I carry a load of civilian clothes in my setup as well. So if I post a video, don't say I stole the idea lol.

Good video. Important point of emphasis is that this 65ish lb ruck is for the individual. Factor in a team, squad or higher, you bring in special equipment, crew serve weapon and mortar ammunition, larger more capable radios and when things get really fun anti-armor weapons. I'm sure drone operators have a chonky protective case. The final weight could be described as a "significant emotional event" for the uninitiated. Don't skip leg day.

I do like the idea of staying ready to switch into covert mode for the prepared minuteman. I think its better to integrate an appendix holster into my full kit than it is to carry a redundant sidearm and holster in my backpack, though. A 60 pound ruck is getting a little crazy, and eliminating that second pistol is an easy place to reduce weight.

I was in a different army, but we have a smaller backpack with core essentials (YMMV) that we strap onto the larger one. Mission essentials and whatever you need to survive for 24-48 hours. If you walk into a heavy contact, or need to E&E. Grab the smaller backpack and hual ass. Be mindful that it was issued gear. But if you carry a heavy ruck, make a plan for what you can and can not ditch. And an effective way to do it.

And even if you dump your gear, now your enemies have more supplies and all of that effort in putting into setting up your gear was all for nothing. Take only what is really necessary. 1. 3 day rations 2. Camelbak & 1qt cateen 3. Rain Poncho 4. Jungle & Mylar blanket 5. Trauma kit w/ meds 6. Gas mask w/ 2 filters 7. Water filter & tables 8. Climbing robe 9. Military E-Tool 10. Weapon cleaning kit 11. (2) Flares 12. (2) Glow Sticks 13. Hygiene kit 14. Utility/survival Kit As for weapons. Well, that's up to the minuteman. I have wrangler tan jeans that work really well instead of blue and will use a multicam, DCU, or desert marpat camo top to give me slightly more concealment than bright blue jeans out in the desert. The one thing you didn’t explain is what a sustainment load IS. It’s to keep you functional in the field for a few days. All these suggestions about what else you could carry miss this point. It’s not an existence load.

Your wet weather gear is buried. When the ruck is nearly full stuff the jacket on one side and the pants on the other with a leg and arm available to pull out easily. You don't want everything getting wet just to access hard shells. Also, all warm weather gear at the bottom should be in a heavy duty garbage bag. If that gear gets wet you're at risk of hypothermia.

Serious question: how often do you guys really have to screw down something? I went on multiple week long hikes as well as one or 2 days of hunting trips and i never needed to screw down anything. Also if the idea is to do ambush why not something like a entrenching tool if you need to prepare your position? And last: Maybe do a Minuteman "sports routine". That kit is heavy so why not share some basic ideas to stay in shape.

Heavier stuff towards the top and ALSO closer to your back, the worst place to place weight is all the way down and to the outside of your ruck. It basically is pulling you down and backwards constantly.
