Modern Horizons 3 | A Set For No One
Ойындар
Recently wizards released their debut video for modern horizons 3 and it got me quite excited for the set. I then then looked into the set a bit more and my excitement quickly started to fade. If you wanna find out why then stay tuned for this video.

It feels like modern horizons is just becoming rotations for modern
As a commander player I was wanting to finally get into a 1v1 format, but one that didn't require me to constantly buy new cards. In the end, I've been getting into pauper, and i love it. So grounded and simple, cheap, and you can still pull off amazing plays.

Thanks for the comment mate. Yeah I've definitely considered pauper. Just a shame it has a much smaller scene that some of the other more expensive formats

@@JackTalksMTG As commander gets more and more expensive, and Modern seems entirely priced out, it's a great entry point. In my case, I'm convincing my commander friends to play it, because getting four of us to dedicate 1-2 hours at a time is getting increasingly difficult. If you have a regular table, I'd do the same! The only thing I miss with it, is the lesser emphasis on building your own decks, seemingly!
The goal of the set is not to get people into Modern. It's to refresh and bolster the Modern metagame without having an impact on the Standard or Pioneer formats.

@@JackTalksMTG What do you disagree with?
Even worst than gatekeeping the format to new players, these sets are often a net negative for existing modern players Forces you to drop cash to update your deck and remain competitive as you need the new cards Older cards prices drop because now obsolete/power creeped Got into modern 16 years ago because I wanted a format that will preserve my collection’s value, and to have a deck or two that will never rotate out Now I have to manage my modern collection like a standard player, every 2 years
Bought a bundle with my friends discount went from 172 down to 92 dollars... not gonna buy anymore hahaa
My local prerelease has 2 people signed up and usually they’re full 😂

Proxies are the way.
You can only play cards printed from 8th edition and after in Modern, and not including any sets that are not Modern legal.

Thanks for the correction mate 👍🏻
Honestly mh3 doesnt come as a shock to me. Price or focus on commander. Mh2 was exactly the same. Its a premium set much like any masters set. Id say stick to sealed or deafts for sets like these and buy singles.

Thanks for the comment mate. It just baffles me why premium sets even exist. These cards could easily be slowly fed into the core sets. And them all being in one set makes the cards themselves less special imo

Very true. From what I can see it's a way for WOTC to get the players that have been in the game for sometime to buy product as the usual standard set isn't powerful or impactful enough.
I am fairly new to magic, and I startet playing magic with my kids(aged 10 and 11) and i decided to completely skip MH3. We aim for Bloomburrow to get some cards and have fun with.

Yeah I don't blame you mate. I think you will have much more fun and get more for your money with bloomburrow 👍🏻
At this point Modern is garbage. WotC will create artificial rotation with every set, so it's not really an eternal format. That's why people have migrated to pre-formats. They may not have a competitive scene, but they are way more fun than anything Magic has churned out during the last decade.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Maybe I'm not missing much then
Remember to vote with your wallet. If you don't like the price, buy singles or skip this product altogether. I'm passing on this product not just because I'm primarily a standard player.

Well said mate
This not even a set for eveyone, this just YET ANOTHER FUCKING COMMANDER PRODUCT!
Nobody catters or buys into their "Equity printing" policy anymore. Magic as a game is dead in 2024, at least in my country... With a few EDH opens and THE LEAGUE (that doesn't sell them pack anyway since you can print and play almost any modern card you like), the scene is pretty dead. From 50+ event/year we went to 1-2 dead events
in the last few years wotc has become increasingly greedy with the pricing. all these secret lairs and sets that cost way tooo much money for anyone with a reasonable mind can justify purchasing.

@@JackTalksMTG True with all these modern horizon sets i thought i can now finally afford to play modern competively but the best decks cost alot of money and always have a card that is on the chopping block to get banned. I would hate myself to get a playset of a card for like 400 dollars for it to get banned from the format within the year.
"all throughout magic's history" so long as 1993-2002 do not exist.🙄

proxies are cheap :)

Ikr but for some reason I can't. I only proxy cards I own 1x but play in multiple decks and some I want to test. But just using proxies regularly annoys me. If you can't buy the card, play a cheaper solution, unless it's really a key card to a cool deck.I have a friend that proxies pretty much every expensive commander staple and we're not complaining but it's annoying.

The cards are actually quite good, just really expensive. It not like the cards aren't something to like. If you feel the need to shame people for liking good cards even though they are expensive, then you're what's wrong with society.

@@sadistksuffring1537 you clearly don't know what pushed means, neither the word nor the concept. They are not great cards they are very strong cards, it's VERY different. It's a high power set with boring design made to pull in kids and you fell for it completely. You're not a good player for seeing the cards are "good" bro, that's the problem. They are too good, but it's too complicated for you to understand. And by buying such trash sets you're ENABLING the company to keep making them. So yes, it's your fault.
