Somehow I never got the harmonic language of Frescobaldi, Faure or Reger. The tonic seems to skip constantly and that makes me feel seasick. I don't have that problem with Wagner or Scriabin, nor with Schoenberg or Maderna because I can just enjoy the beauty of the soundscape. But with these three particular composers I always get stuck in the mud. It never lingers pleasantly (like Scriabin) but is always in a hurry to go somewhere else. Like someone who can not focus his mind on one idea but instead is shifting focus all the time.

I was just a few days ago thinking of analyzing Fauré's Cantique de Jean Racine. It's really so charming and holy of sentiment - as Lili Boulanger's works too several of them. But really I tire of theory these days, in honesty. People tend to fight over who's a know-it-more; and closer to some fountain of authentic knowledge, or first to the punch.
