MODERN Campervan Kitchen Pt 2 | Fiat Ducato L2H2 | UK Self-Build Campervan Conversion
Welcome to part 2 of our custom campervan kitchen build. (Check out part 1 here: • HANDMADE Campervan Kit... ). In this video we continue the build by cutting out the sink and hob holes in the worktop, sanding and finishing the worktop edging. We chose to buy drawer boxes from drawer boxes.co.uk who supply high quality Blum drawer boxes that are super sturdy and easy to make. I then attached the drawer fronts we made and painted in part 1 and added the handles. It was quite tricky linking up the fronts so they looked perfectly aligned by I achieved it in the end!
We then cut and fit our metro tile effect splash back This stuff is great - 3mm laminate that is easy to cut, light weight and looks like glossy metro tiles. These are Multipanel products and we ordered it from Wolseley.
Finally we attached the worktop to the carcass using strong CT1 adhesive and then fitted the hob and sink.
We're really pleased with how the kitchen turned out. It looks amazing and has so much storage. For an L2 van we have plenty of worktop space between the hob and sink so we're over the moon. Let us know what you think or what you did differently in the comments below.

WHO ARE WE?
We're Mark and Neil and this is Our Van Plan. We've always wanted a camper van and took the plunge in 2020 by ordering a brand new medium wheelbase (L2H2) Fiat Ducato. @@OurVanPlan I was looking through the videos to see what off grid power solution u had installed but couldn’t find anything - or have I missed it ? Also, how big is the garage are in the rear or did I miss info on that too lol, TIA.
@OurVanPlan
2 жыл бұрын
Haven’t really gone into electrics yet. But we have 200Ah lithium batteries which are good for several days off grid. This is combined with a battery charger for when we’re driving and then a plug in charger for when we’re on hookup. With lithium honestly don’t think you need much more than this. Garage space isn’t huge but basically the full width of the rear doors and about 80cm deep. Then a section runs about 1m20 deep under the bench seat to allow us to store long things! Hope that helps.
Such a great 2 part video, it has really helped and inspired me to create my kitchen layout and build, Thank you so much for your video.

Wow
Thanks for sharing the video. Can you tell me how you calculated and marked out how to correctly space the draw runners?
This is such a good job you’ve done. Catching up bit by bit as only just found you. Only slight concern is fire risk with the material of curtain etc and seat so close to the hob. We had to have an extra piece on the side of kitchen area added on from worktop to upper units to pass habitation checks due to a cab curtain behind drivers seat
@OurVanPlan
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yeah we’ve been thinking about this as we’d like a curtain there too. I think we’ll do similar to you and have something to act as a barrier.
@PawsomeAdventuring
Жыл бұрын
@@OurVanPlan I nearly took the curtain out as I’ve got internal blinds for overnight. I didn’t though as I realised the curtain is brilliant for day time parking. I leave the curtain closed when parked up somewhere as it looks like a bulkhead on quick look and not obviously a camper. It’s obviously handy to just pull across quickly if you are stopped for a potty break. Your conversion is top notch. Best self build layout I’ve seen on the smaller wheel base and so well finished. Love the bed idea. I’m looking to upgrade my pop top for an L2H2 in the next twelve months. Your videos are making me really wonder about giving a self build a go. Problem is, I don’t have your skills and neither does my hubby. Thanks for sharing your journey. Hope you and Neil have been enjoying some time away in it.

Yeah we wanted to put one in for all those reasons so will have to find a way to maintain safety. Glad you like the videos, we’re definitely pleased with the layout choice after using it for a fair bit now. Don’t think there’s anything we’d change. I would also say that we had zero DIY skills before starting the van and we learned as we went. It was definitely tough but if I can do it anyone can!
Hi there, looks fantastic! Please can you tell me what connector from the 12mm JG pipe to the tap you used? Cheers 🚐😊👍
Absolutely beautiful. Amazing work. We have the same sink in brushed stainless. Have you found a plug that fits? 😀Let me know. Can’t wait to see the finished article.

What sink is it? Do you have a link?
Great video, once again. Did you find a solution for keeping the drawers closed?
@OurVanPlan
6 ай бұрын
Thanks. Yeah I used electro magnets that power on when the ignition is on. They work really well.
Also are you sockets proper Matt black ? Can I ask where you sourced those too please. I’ve ordered a few so far only to find they’re not proper matt 🤦♀️
Really love these units you built and all the other videos I've watched so far. Quick question, why did you choose to built the units rather than buy and cut? While the units look amazing, I guess it took a long time and possibly cost more than buying.
@OurVanPlan
Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Built them from scratch due to the space available to maximise how we wanted to use it and also they pre-built units are really heavy and made from furniture board not ply. Also they’re not really designed to be rattling around in the back of a van 😆
Beautiful work. Please can you let me know the exact overall lenght of your kitchen. Cheers.
@OurVanPlan
Жыл бұрын
Thanks. The worktop is 1.3m across.
Great video. Out of interest how did you secure the drawers closed in the end?
@OurVanPlan
6 ай бұрын
Thanks. I bought some electromagnets from Amazon and wired them into the D+ signal from the van so when the ignition is on they power up and secure the drawers. Have worked well for the past year although if I was doing it again I’d have built in manual locks/latches.
Looking smart ! I’ve been thinking about using Drawers boxes so good to see the quality of them 👍 where did you get the tile board from, I can’t see it on your list , thanks 😊
@OurVanPlan
2 жыл бұрын
Hey, yeah the drawers are brilliant. The tile board is made by Multipanel and there are various stockists but we got it from Wolesey plumbing. The sockets are Matt black. We struggled too. They’re from TLC direct item number VLXY2BMB 👍🏻

Really like all your work, maybe I’ve missed an episode, but what material did you use for your kitchen drawers and door, and did you paint them?
@OurVanPlan
10 ай бұрын
Thank. I bought the drawers from drawerboxes.co.uk and the fronts were cut from poplar ply and then sanded, undercoated and painted in Valspar paint from B&Q.
Recently found you and enjoying the van build series as I want to get a L2H2. Is the metro tile laminate able to withstand any heat from the hob okay?
@OurVanPlan

The kitchen looks great, did you make the drawer fronts? And if so, what paint did you use?
@OurVanPlan
Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes I made the drawer fronts. The paint is Valspar furniture paint from B&Q. They do thousands of colours and it was the most expensive version (3000 or something although I think they’ve changed the names now.) goes on really easily and looks great.
The kitchen looks great, nice work. 👍 Random question: have you found the tap reliable, not leaking etc, would you recommend it? Thank you.
@OurVanPlan

Thanks Allan. Yeah the tap is great, no problems at all other than a little bit of lubricant leaking where the tap swivels I think from when it was laid flat in packaging. All good now though.

@@OurVanPlan thanks very much for replying. That’s good to know. 😎👍
Thanks for your video series I’ve found it really useful for my own build, and currently up to the kitchen. I have the same hob, I wondered if you kept this separated with a gas cupboard of some sort within the unit, or if the pipe work is just exposed - I’m unsure of having it close to the fridge is ok? A second question - has the hob being close to the plastic tiles been ok? How close did you go to it?
@OurVanPlan
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gavin and sounds like your build is progressing well. I build an enclosure below the hob about 10cm deep and coated in heat proof material and then sealant around all the joins once installed. Then there a gap, small drawer, gap and fridge. The fridge copes ok. We haven’t used the hob massively and try to use the front one mainly but no problems with the tiles. They’re not plastic though, they’re heat resistant laminate material. Multipanel from various places.

@@OurVanPlan brilliant thank you that’s really helpful! Did you continue the sealed enclosure down the back too and have a drop out?

Yes there’s a false back and base to the fridge area and then a drop vent in the void below 👍🏻
🇬🇧🇬🇧👍
Did you use 12mm ply? What door hinges did you use??
@OurVanPlan

I think 18mm on the drawer fronts and cupboard. 12mm for the cabinet itself. Hinges just standard adjustable ones from screwfix.
Where did you get the side and front panels from please
