Model Titanic splits and sinks like the James Cameron's movie filmed miniature - Behind the scenes
Ойын-сауық
RMS Titanic break-up miniature, real footage, like the original filming scale model built by James Cameron for his 1997 movie and supervised by Rob Legato.
Missing Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet) on the boat ;-)
Model used: 1:200 Trumpeter Titanic upgraded with KA MK1 set kit
More than 300 hours of work were necessary to build this split model.

It’s because all the magical ingredients are involved. Biggest ship ever, unsinkable, and it sank on its maiden voyage. Take away any one of those three things and no one would be talking about the titanic.

I love practical fx so much they both look cooler than cg, but also have more intrigue to them as yoy try to figure out "hey, how did they do that?" The shot with the sparks was perfect.
I like how the water spilled over the tank like the real film set did

Very impressive, and almost identical to the film. The breakup of the real ship, however, was vastly different, but i guess it also would’ve been very complicated to recreate. Excellent work either way 👍

Thanks :) Yes, my goal was to try to do the same split that we can see in the movie, but there are a lot of theories about the real breakup ! 😊

In all fairness, when the time the movie was made I don’t think people realized the split happened that way.

10/10 set up
Impressive. Still looks like a model breaking instead of a ship breaking. Not enough splash when it hits, doesn't feel like it has some weight behind it.

For the movie I believe they used a 40ft long model for this shot for this reason, but this video does a great job of showing how the effect was accomplished and the same technique could be used on a larger scale. You could also easily supplement this as-is with VFX, something that wasn't really feasible in 1997.
This is actually really cool, nice work!

I love sing those small models (especially the titanic) when you film it close up like it is real
That's amazing work, and really impressive to watch. The only thing I think lets it down a bit is the movement of the funnels as they fall. In reality these were enormous and heavy structures that would have crumpled and smashed as they fell, rather than bouncing around :) Very difficult to reproduce at such small scale, but perhaps you could make them with very fragile internal framework and use a thin foil for the outer skin. Then if you place a lot of weight inside the funnels, they will bend and crumple as they fall?

I love it! Wonder if anyone can do the same with modern theories...
@0accipiters0
Жыл бұрын
Considering the modern theory Is that it kinda sagged in half it would be harder to recreate in miniature but easier a little larger scale.
Firework in titanic
This is how James Cameron split was made it was a scale version of it exactly like this but it was bigger not huge but bigger than a human and they also did editing and adding cgi people making it look like it split in half also realistic
Look at the size of that model! It's... what's the word I'm looking for...? That thing is Titanic!

😇 The size of the Trumpeter 1:200 Titanic is more than 5" 😵💫
This is very good! I tried makeing this in a video I would not post to KZread. What I was useing was a small model of titanic, I was recording with my phone and the water was a clear purple container filled with water in the dark to make a night mood. It looked fine at night until when I watched it at day time, at day I could see a reflection in the water and almost all of the behind the scenes stuff. It wasn’t the best but it was ok.
2:39 that was awesome

Impressive! A slightly bigger scale model would make it look huge and heavy as it splashes the water. Or you can save some money and add some CGI water splash :)

Waoooou Walter 👍 titanic
The funnels are kind of meh, you could put some plasticine as some sort of wires that would eventually cut, but overall good job, impressive!
WOW 😲 TITANIC
I love it
All that work and they didn’t digitally scale the water. Water is always 1/1 and a give away. Superb model though.
How amazing & cute 😍 💖
😊😀😱 amazing 🤩
wow that is cool
One problem with James Cameron movie: Water wasn't in scale with the miniature Titanic ship. Water drops were way too big. That's a common problem with miniature ships and real water.

The model in the break up scene was in scale 1 to 20. I honestly don't see the problems you see. They die it that big to avoid the typical scale problems with water and shit and it worked

Trop cool chapeau !
