Model a barn
The inspiration for this diorama came from the many farm buildings that I pass when on Dartmoor or in the countryside surrounding the River Dart. You will see the techniques I used to create rust on the corrugated roof and create texture to the cornerstones on the barn.
This diorama gave me the opportunity to work with Das clay, grey stones and a range of static grasses from WWS and Woodland scenics.
I hope my video is of interest to anyone who enjoys making dioramas, model railways or war gaming layouts.
I hope you agree that the final photographs demonstrate how easy it is to create something that looks realistic. Why not have a go yourself?

@@DartsideScenicsJust a comment that might be useful to some. I needed to build a white picket fence recently. I cut strips from thin styrene sheet and cut them into palings. To assemble the fence I taped a strip of sellotape sticky side up to my building board. I had a line on the board to align the tops of the palings and with a pair of tweezers, pleased each paling on the tape using the thickness of the tweezer arm as a spacer against the previous paling. I spread super glue along the strips used for the rails and carefully positioned them across the palings. When dry, the fence was easily removed from the tape.

You're not a modeler nearly as much as you are a mason. I was thinking you were about to show an easy way to make a stone building...man was I wrong. Can't argue with the results though. Beautiful.

@@DartsideScenics Each one is a unique work of art in itself. It's fascinating and relaxing to watch. When it was done and you panned all the details with the vegetation, pathways and fences I almost felt cheated/disappointed and I mean that in the most complimentary way. If I may suggest, have you considered doing them in several parts?
@DartsideScenics

@@stephenmcguire7342 I try to keep it to one video as I have never been keen on videos broken into sections. I suppose everyone is different and as I produce more videos and receive feedback I’ll get a better idea of what to do.

Would you recommend an air dry clay over an oven-bake clay?
@DartsideScenics
2 жыл бұрын
I usually use air dry clay but if I am short of time and need it to dry quickly, I would use oven-bake clay. Recently I used a two part epoxy putty which set quickly and allowed me to progress.
