Model 2 Stroke Opposed Piston Engine Variable Compression

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Beskrivelse I build this 1 cylinder 2-stroke model engine 1987 to find out, how an engine with variable compression ratio would Work, and how much 2 opposite turning fly-Wheels would reduce the impuls vibrations, and at the same time, it was fun to build. Build by Find Hansen Denmark

    Your adjustable compression mechanism is fantastic! Scratch that, the entire engine is brilliant! It started so easily! I'm amazed the engine ran so smoothly while adjusting; that was a rather extreme change in compression ratio. Thank you for uploading this demonstration!

    No idea how this was recommended to me 5years later………what does changing the compression ratio do ?

  • @AtlasJotun

    @AtlasJotun

    @@magnustveten492 Thank you for reminding me to watch this again. Changing the compression can be done for several reasons, including increasing/reducing output of an engine to optimize it for power or economy depending on the application, or to account for atmospheric changes. In this case, the method of adjustment would also change the harmonics and powerband of the engine, allowing it to generate peak power at different speeds instead of one static point. But the neatest part of this system (just my opinion) is the fact that because it's a 2-stroke, wherein the pistons act as valves and cover/uncover the intake and exhaust ports as they travel, this system is also effectively an infinitely adjustable variable valve timing (VVT) system. This little engine blew my mind.

    its not really complicated at all... the fly wheels at 2x crank speed double as counter balance shafts... variable comp concept is seriously flawed though in a spark ignition engine though... thats exactly what a throttle does... the effect of controlling port timing is a major step up... diesel's a totally different c/r principle though

    Just for experimenting of what the best result would be. It is a unit good for research, but in real-life, compression shouldn´t be adjustable, since, through experimenting with this model, the optimal compression should have been ascertained.
