Moch Island Tour

Join me for a brief tour of Moch Island, situated in the Mortlock region of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. On this island, you will find three villages, two churches, and a school to explore. Additionally, I will provide further information on other unique aspects of the island.
❗️DISCLAIMER❗️
Traveling to the Mortlock Islands is incredibly difficult for a foreigner. There are no hotels or hostels to stay at; you must have an invitation from a local individual or family. I am able to share this experience with you because, from 2013-2015, I lived with a host family on Moch Island during my Peace Corps service. I have maintained positive relationships with the family and community at large over these years.

You're welcome! I wanted to show more of the island, but felt uncomfortable about going into more private property areas without a companion. Overall it is the same beautiful place. There are a couple new homes that were built by IOM because of the typhoon a few years back.

Thank you so much for sharing your video, makes me even more pwosssss.😔 What I've seen from your Video it's totally different from what I remember/picturing in my head it's different from the time I was there. In my opinion, it was more cleaner back then and not too many houses too. Waiooooooo, unusen rukela ngang ren Moch. Wenen Beimoch, there were no vines plants/plants, just coconut trees, coneos and the local Fāl( huts) and I Wish they could atleast clean the school or do something about it to keep it clean. Thank you again for sharing pwe akan sarela ekkis ash pwosssssss. 😊😊 Take car & God bless

Awwwww :) I think Beimoch has changed the most out of the 3 villages since I went back this June. I remember seeing 20 - 30 canoes at the shore sitting on well kept grass. Now there are only a few. The vegetation has taken over that area and the basketball court. I miss seeing the large local house also at the shore. I remember hanging out in there many times while the village practiced songs for Catholic events in there. The one new thing I really liked was the solar lights that the government installed in each village. Now I don't have to worry about stubbing my toe on breadfruit roots when I walk at night haha.

Wow interesting to hear that drinking kava is becoming a normal thing to do in Moch! Is it being grown on the island or is it the imported powder?😊

When I was living there from 2013-2015, I rarely saw anyone drinking kava. I was surprised when I came back this year. From what I understood from talking with people, it has become normalized throughout the Mortlocks entirely. It is all imported powder. People are selling it on island for about $30 a bag. I picked a couple bags up in Weno at Leiside Store for $20 each.
