@@aderam648my brother got made of for being from the Middle East as a kid but he’s literally just half Italian. My grandma grew up in the hoods in Patterson in what was essentially an Italian ghetto and there used to be signs up around my mom’s hometown 100 years ago or less saying no “negroes no Italians” sometimes just the former and they meant Italians in that. These signs were by the Irish. The Irish were heavily discriminated against and in their own bizarre way considered less white at one point in time too. Whiteness is a construct and a strange one at that. Now granted, I 100% consider myself white. I have strawberry blonde hair, pale skin, freckles, and hazel-green eyes. And most importantly all the privilege that comes with that. I have no connection in any way shape or form really to those old moorish roots even if some of my family does. So I’m white. And my grandma and brother consider themselves white too. But then I look at another Italian friend of mine who is just assumed to be half blank because he’s THAT cicilian and wonder how he can be considered technically white lol. All this to say, it’s a pretty ridiculous construct. Ethnicity is an interesting one but race is fuzzy when it comes to white vs non white instead of ethnicities Damn I need to get back to work I really just wrote a whole damn essay.

As an Italian with extremely sketchy family from the south of Italy and parts of Sicily (mob central), this aesthetic is extremely disturbing. People forget that Mobs and gangs are responsible for a large percentage of human trafficking and horrendous crimes. Also, Italians are not the only ones with mobs. There are Irish, Mexican, Jewish, Russian and so many others that it’s hard to name them all. It is perfectly fine if people want to wear faux fur and animal print and expensive designer names, but it is never acceptable for people to glorify and romanticize a hostile and abusive group of people.

Like, maybe try to come up with something else to call yourself so that you are not in any way aligning yourself with a group of people who do those kinds of things? I get that it's basically Sopranos cosplay but I also feel like, due to the lack of context people receive by discovering something on TikTok, there's this phenomenon of glorifying really messed up things on accident. @@punchbeard I can see some how traumatic the mob lifestyle can be for people considering the power structure and essentially losing your entire life for someone... Especially for people who grew up into organized crime. BUT it's very different than dating someone who did petty crimes ya know. Like I can see how survivors of those types of relationships can feel some type of way if there was abuse involved (emotional, financial, etc). But it loses the plot when it comes from people who forge their stories to fit into the title of a "real mob wife".

@@sumlem I think a lot of those relationships have abuse in them. Drita D'Avanzo showed how hard it was to struggle with her husband in and out of prison after being in organized crime. The thing with this being called an "aesthetic" is possibly hurtful to them. They lived thru hell and had to keep pushing forward from all the damage they dealt with and all the hurt they and their children endured.
