The guy who plays Capone Stephen Graham is from my city Liverpool in the UK one of the greatest actors of our generation a lot of people don't know he is actually English. Even though he is a movie star he still comes back to the city and teaches an acting class in his old neighborhood.

@Barry Allen not true, a lot of it was fiction, made for TV drama. Nucky Johnson not Thompson came from an affluent family in New Jersey, he wasn't Catholic or Irish he was a Methodist, Nucky Johnson, was never connected with a single act of violence let alone a murder, he did make a lot of his money because of prohibition and the sale of liquor, but he also gave back a great amount of that money to the community, after the Volstead act was repealed Me. Johnson also helped open up a lot of alcohol rehabilitation clinics, and did not die on the boardwalk but in his own bed in his 60s. Gyp Rosetti a main character in season 3 was not a real person, and the idea that Arnold rothstein, Charlie Luciano, Meyer lansky, Al Capone or any other Jewish or Italian mobsters where in cahoots with Nucky Johnson is unproven hearsay and television drama and fluff. It was a great show, some of the mafia story lines are true, but for the most part boardwalk empire is an act of fiction based in a time period where you could mix a lot of fact and fiction to tell a great story.

Remember when thopse two heavies tried to rob him and he dispatched them like a lion against two woodlouse. Same as Hannibal the series. He came in as Mason Verger, one of the most evil characters ever, found out her sister was pregnant and had the foestus pulled out and her fallopian tubes ruined so she could never conceive. and was superb, it was the end of nseason 2 which was getting really weak till he showed up, so really looking forwards to season 3 and Michael Pitt had quit! I just started watching Boardwalk Empire for the first time ever and I'm on episode 6 in season one. Its already a masterpiece show in my opinion. The acting, the women on the show are gorgeous especially Kelly MacDonald, the characters, the setting, etc. The scene where Capone, Darmody, and the head Italian guy go meet with the one Italian guy about Greek town territory. They discover that Darmody has a brass knuckle knife on him and soon as they get ready to leave, the front desk girl hands them their coats back and Darmody and Capone takes all of those mafia guys out. That whole sequence of scenes were so beautifully done.

It was a knife Jimmy had in his boot that he saved from the war but it had a handle that went around the fingers. The show just keeps getting better and better and Steve Buscemi's portrayal of Nucky Thompson is one of if not the best lead roles in a crime drama, even more so than James Gandolfini's portrayal of Tony Soprano. The show has some of the best writers, a great cast, and it's the only TV series that really does a good job of covering the Prohibition-era. Even the smaller details like the way the boardwalk looks and the suits that they wear make it look that much more authentic.

The reaaon I love Michael is because he is a good man with a good heart who sees the mistakes of that life, yet he never ratted or snitched. He discusses the business and his past life in it, however he never named names and never turned on anyone and did his prison hit like a man. Not only that, he came out better and tries to keep others from making the mistake of leading a life of crime since the government has absorbed most crime syndicates (they do not like competition).

Hi Michael great review from a very underrated show in the UK..learned alot during that show about the start of the five families and the outfit in Chicago and the difference between the 2 city's maffia set up with the outfit having a strong Neapolitan leadership and most of the families in nyc at the time having a strong scillian leadership ....thanks again from Glasgow Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A very good review as always Michael, we totally enjoyed the Boardwalk Empire series. What really stood out to me was when you mentioned the origin of “Tell it to Sweeney”. I was in 7th grade in a Catholic school being taught by a nun who was old as dirt with a little bit of crazy mixed in. She used that phrase with us and I never knew what it meant until now at age 69, so thank you for that❣️

You speak so much truth Michael...the kids...young people...who watch these movies and are attracted by the glamour and the money and the women never embrace the end. It NEVER ends well for them. It's ended well for you but why? Because you managed to get away from that life...you found God! But even for you there has been that terrible loss of family...your brother and sister...your Mom and Dad...THAT family suffered tremendously. You're so generous to share that with us and all those who are tempted by the lure of that life. When I was young...just a kid of 13...I was enchanted with that life in Providence, RI. I interacted with Raymond Patriarca and he took a liking to me as a kid but my Mom and Grandmother who knew what he was were thankfully able to pull me away from that life. All I saw was how everyone feared and respected him and to a young boy it seemed very cool in 1970. But it didn't end well for him...or his son who tried to follow him. Now I still enjoy the movies and the stories...but just as entertainment...and I'm so blessed that I never took that path that might have been there for me. You are doing God's work Michael.
