A bunch of great techniques, I always love how Mr. Paulson keeps things simple without 'dumbing it down' or making things too uninvolved. Aliveness, as Bruce Lee would say, without ornamentation. One question I would have is as to how these techniques could be implemented by a smaller fighter. I'm 5'7", a fair amount shorter than Sensei Paulson, and I find that when the size difference becomes significant, this kind of short clinch work can be very challenging.

That's a very good idea to attack the neck while in the thai-clinch, I've never even thought of that before. Weaken the neck with strikes and he'll have a harder time defending against getting his head pulled down in the thai-clinch.

I freaking love short shots, coming from a MT background this is a very good technique to use in MMA and or street fighting.

@RustyO03, thanks. Ha ha, this one is over 2 years old though. Notice the transitional intro clip with a partial DamageControlMMA sound bite and the old title screen from the Taking It To The MMAT days. Guys who subscribe to our blog at DamageControlMMA,com saw this 2 years ago when it first came out.

Incredible!.. Seeing these techniques, I'd say Erik has been adding some Choy Lee Fut techniques to his repertoire!.. Namely Sow Chui (roundhouse punch with the forearm) and Pek Chui (hammer punch with the forearm). Sifu Mark Whelan from Australia has always been an expert at applying these techniques. Search for wailungma channel on youtube and you'll see Sifu Mark practicing wooden dummy where some of these techniques are applied. Thank you for yet another great video!!

i think as Erik have a very good background in FMA ,i think the fast moves and most of the close combat strikes/punches are from (kali-eskrima) which are basically hand-to-hand combat ,and that's what actually make a him a dam good couch as he pretty much played everything in MAs.

The pivot punch (like a missed cross) is also in boxing & JJJ - there is also a chopping hammer fist like punch where you use the forearm like when you swing an axe - its called the Louisville slugger in the US. There is also half pivot punches where it looks like a half -elbow but the forearm is held slightly forward - this is because in boxing if you get turned you can sweep both arms back the 1st arm to sweep clear the enemies punches where you are open to follow up with the half pivot & hook

Paulson rules. On his Killer Chokes video he tells two stories when he got into bar fights in the UK. Didnt end very well for some drunk brits.

Damn, those short shots look fucking brutal. I wish I had the money to take some MMA training. Nevertheless, I see the perfect aplicability of these kinds of caveman-esque shots in any fight, in the cage or if someone jumps you in the street or a bar. Bloody nice.

I guess it all comes down to personal prefrences but I'd prefer to strike with an elbow rather then the arm when it comes to close distance.
