They were a likeable team last year too. This year, I don’t know about how you feel but I didn’t like them as much. They seem to not put the effort in to try and win. Also losing Díaz & I believe the WBC in general did a lot to hamper the Mets from the get-go.

@@Zo3yXpurely in the win-loss column, yes. But it is a little weird compared to the Mets. I can look at the Mets stats and say "oh ok, the entire team underperformed on both sides." But with the Padres it's not really glaringly obvious why they're that far below 500.
Honestly speaking, Kodai senga is probably the only starter on the team who's pulling his weight. If a 5y 75m pitcher who's never played in the big leagues is doing that, then there's probably something seriously, seriously wrong with your sp lineup that's supposed to be stacked.

Honestly, props to the Mets for recognizing they weren’t going to do anything and selling, rather than doubling down and trying to improve the team even more and failing
As a Mets fan, I checked out of this season pretty early. Once I saw that the Mets didnt make adjustments and didnt address what caused them to drop the NL East last year, I more or less knew how this season would turn out. I'm just completely over this team.

I think there’s a medium between spending a bunch of money and sticking to a budget to make sure you’re always trying to develop and grow from within.
Obviously, their near complete team wide regression is a huge problem but what I never hear discussed when talking about why most "all-star" teams fail is Ego Management and "expectation anxiety". The only somewhat notable exception to this is the Dodgers (which given how many injuries they have this year is suspect how they manage to command their season record). But Baseball is a notorious game of failure and when you have a bad skid which is inevitable, that anxiety is crushing when players start becoming their own worst enemy. The other problem is managing egos in the clubhouse as these players have to be around each other for about 200 days of the year so if you don't like your teammates, baseball life becomes hell real fast and most superstars have super egos that they believe they know more than everyone else around them and if there is not an established pecking order then stars start going after their teammates throats and then everyone starts sucking in a superconducting cycle until the team collapses.
I've been a Mets fan since 1982 and at this point, nothing surprises me. The implosion at the end of last season comes down to leadership. There is no way that they should have lost the division last year. I like Buck for a lot of reasons, but there's no way he should still be managing this team.
As soon as I saw Diaz being out …SEASON OVER! I had no confidence in that bullpen at all, just knowing how many saves will be blown. Watching Scherzer early on in the season and with Justin on the IL something just didn’t feel right with this team. Oh well wait til next year …AGAIN! Let’s rebuild with the younger guys and hope for the best…LGM2024!
lol chill with the background music. i feel like im on the pause menu in some cyberpunk video game
I keep saying it an no one listens. Whenever the Mets gear up to win or are expected to win they don’t. Met seasons don’t start until after the all star break. If they get hot, make trades and keep it going, they get cold, shit it down. 2002 bunch of free agent signings, expect led to win in 06 and 07, 23 as well. 15, got hot. 2000 got hot. 69 got hot. 22 win over 100 games, bounced first round.
@MaddMan621

I think 06 is the exception where we were expected to be good and cruised all year, but yeah 07 it all came crashing down so quickly
I feel like Diaz getting injured at the WBC was the beginning of the end for the Mets this year.
As a Mets fan this season reminds me a lot of the early 90’s team with Vince Coleman Bobby Bonilla bret Saberhagen and many others who just didn’t produce. Hopefully I don’t have to wait a long time to see them turn it around.

That description of how Mets find a way to loose is the same for the Yankees. Especially yesterday giving up a 4 run lead to loose by a walk off in the bottom of the 9th against the Marlins. Yankees will also be playing the Braves today like the Mets maybe we’ll see two NY teams loosing 21 to 3 😂.

Steve Cohen is reportedly worth $16.5 B so he’s not bothered by his Mets’s $350 M annual payroll.
This year: Show me the money! Next year: Shohei the money! 😂
Sometimes the plan works and sometimes it doesn’t that’s just how it goes but at least the owner tried. Can’t say that about most owners. I’d rather have a owner who tries than someone who puts out a losing team year after year.

Money can’t buy everything 🤷🏻♀️
Rome wasn't built in a day.....
Honestly, as a Yankees fan who's never rooted for the Mets - kudos to Steve Cohen for going for it. Yeah, they missed wildly. Fans still want to know your team's owner isn't just using the team as a tax write off or an ATM.
Money doesn’t buy championship
No one called for Buck to get the axe when the Mets won 101 games last year…why start now? He is a great manager but he has to work with what he’s given. He has shown he isn’t a closer though.
This season’s got to have been as frustrating for Mets fans as it’s been for Yankees fans like me. Yuck!
When they lost Diaz in the WBC, I knew they were in trouble.
Im a braves fan but feel bad for the mets this year
As a Guardians fan, I can understand what a disappointing season it's been. However the Mets spent a ton of money which got them nowhere. They tried to buy a championship contender and fell short. Things may turn around next season, if not Lindor might regret signing long term to a struggling team.
and even in their own city their not the biggest disappointment and are overshadowed by the Yankees disappointment. They can't even get a proper pity party.
Mets, Yankees and Padres have nothing to show for the money they blew on these underperforming players. Absolutely pathetic
great story !! Now do the Yankees!!!! LOL
Anyone who saw the June schedule knew the Mets were doomed
Similar to the 90s Orioles.
To be fair they should have held off on spending that much til after they saw how the rule changes affected everything.

It was a tax write off. He had to spend a certain amount within 5 years of owning the team.
overworked bullpen, inconsistent offense, and benching of young players. now where have i heard this before? oh, right. the Orioles (yes, i am a fan). at least Mets fans won't need to face the humiliation of watching a subpar pitcher like Ubaldo Jiménez coming into a tied playoff game, which ends in a 3-run home run and an offseason in turmoil. the Orioles didn't do squat to address any of their problems whereas the Mets have some young pieces to work around in their system after these trades. so, Mets and fans, you will probably not be relevant for a few years. if your owner and GM play their cards right then your rebuild can be viable sooner rather than later.
make a video on the dbacks
You forgot to mention the lack of on field leadership, the team just playing for themselves ( going back to last season as not one met pitcher retaliated when players got hit by the opposite team) and the immaturity of players

As a Phillies fan watching that bullpen meltdown against us, I just thought the Phillies didn’t win the Mets just lost. I just don’t think Cohen will let them rebuild, he’ll just spend more cash.
@Wild_Pennsylvania
11 ай бұрын
That's just not how business works. I think he is done spending cash and is showing that they need to rebuild and rely on their farm system instead of just trying to buy away their problems. You have to spend some to get a business started, but then after a couple years the business needs to be self sustainable. The team needs to be at the least breaking even or even better creating a profit. There is no point in running a business if you are going to continue to spend your own money. I know it's easy to say but he has billions of dollars, but reality is no matter how much money you have, its never enough and just continuing to blow your own money makes no sense. I am also a Phillies fan.

It's not Buck Showalter's fault. Buck is one of the true baseball geniuses out there. It's the Mets being...kind of Metsy. When you have players named Tylor McGill, whose poor parents can't even spell the kid's name right, no wonder the team is going to be embarrassing. As a non-Mets fan, this story line gives me something to enjoy, since my favorite team will be a non-factor in the post season too. My dislike for the team has deep roots, going back to 1969. Yes, the Miracle Mets were a good story, but by the end of the World Series, I was so sick of the media and celebrities gushing and fawning over the team, that I developed a mind set that wished only misery on that franchise. The Mets of the mid '80s only deepened the dislike.
