It's crazy how America is the only country that doesn't take this tournament seriously. World Series gets peanuts viewership compared to this. Every big name import player we get thinks the Classic is more important than a world series. Japan sends its highest-paid players whose contracts dwarf ours. This is peak baseball.

"If I had to pay half a million to play today, I would." That right there says everything that needs to be said about what this tournament really means. The only thing that could make it better is to play series for the championship instead of single games. But we've come a long way so far. The future of international baseball looks awesome!!

@@larrydanadavid2435 but we can recognize that you can't lose viewership indefinitely, right? that's what all these rules changes are about -- to try and increase baserunners (particularly singles) and shorten games (both efforts to make the game more exciting and bring in more viewers). viewership down about 1% per year for the last 15 years. not a great trend. the sport itself doesn't need our help; but professional sport leagues absolutely need viewers, or they will fold. leagues have folded before (even in baseball). i get your point which seems to be 'settle down this is nothing new', and i mostly agree. but owners won't continue to leverage money without return on investment.

@@larrydanadavid2435 Weird argument you’re making here. One person is arguing that this would benefit the game by bringing more viewers. More viewers means more ad revenue. It means more money for the players. It means more kids wanting to play baseball, and the pool of talent growing, which will make the quality of games even better. But you’re arguing that none of that matters because YOU like watching it. Haha what?

The Olympics removing baseball has lead to something great. EDIT: To all these people out here saying, "bUt It Is An OlYmPiC sPoRt"... it was the decision to drop baseball that made the WBC so popular. "Modeled after the FIFA World Cup and organized in large part as a response to the International Olympic Committee's decision to remove baseball as an Olympic sport in 2005, the WBC has grown into a major sporting event worldwide. The final series in 2006 and 2009 rank among the highest-rated sporting events in Japanese television history." - WIKI

Frankly I would rather watch wbc at home than fight parking at spring training games. Keep it going, baseball is global and wbc is a great venue to show this. Although I cannot figure out what makes one eligible to play for a particular nation. I think I could play for one of 6 nations from what I gather???? The camaraderie is great. I wonder if MLB would ever consider the handshake line (like the NHL) after the conclusion of a big game or series?

1:10 J.T. Realmuto's logic is crazy but is kind of logical. Even Wainwright who's been pitching forever understands it kind of makes sense.

Would be nice to see the players in the Japan and Taiwan games mic'd up, see how the players from the Asian and non-traditional baseball countries get along.
