My little brother got married this night. The reception ended at 9. We flew back to the hotel, changed and ran to the bar across the street to catch the 9th. One of the best days ever.

@M soccer is big because of all the poor countries in the world. If I spent all year in a mud hut slapping flies off my face kicking a ball around a big grass field would seem like heaven to me too😂 soccer is trash, and filled with babies who flop all over the field to get penalty’s.

Brandon Metz. Look man. The CUBS could've played those 2016WS gms. on the grounds of the OLD UNION STOCKYARDS! over on MORGAN ST. for all I cared. For anyone, for that matter. 100+ YEARS? Just win the damn thing & get THE HELL OUTTA THERE. Sheesh.

@petegobeckli1386 It's a scenario like the Toronto Raptors. I told ppl the Cubs didn't need to win the WS at home because if they did, they woulda tore Chicago and the outside of Wrigley Field apart. Same as in Toronto. Jurassic Park woulda tore Toronto apart. It was better for them to win away from Wrigley.

Annette Skandrick He no doubt made some very questionable managerial decisions in Gm 7. Tito Francona definitely out-managed him by a long shot. Luckily, he got bailed out by his talented roster. Taking out the MLB leader in ERA after 4 innings wasn't the greatest decision in my eyes. He may not be the smartest guy out there, but Maddon definitely gives off a very easy going vibe which probably makes it a little more enjoyable for the players.

Dodgers sent minimum 27 hitters to plate. All Dodger baserunners were eliminated in double plays or pick offs. Dodgers only got 2 hits, but 2nd hit in eighth inning caused Maddon to pull Hendricks. I'll never understand how managers handle pitching these days. In old days Hendricks would have finished game.

Obviously winning the World Series was the be-all, end-all to this amazing story. But, this night stood by itself in its own special way. The World Series was a roller coaster of emotions and everything happened so quickly: The Game 5 that seemed like it took 10 hours because of the anxiety it caused. The next day was exhausting thinking back on it. Then, Games 6 and 7 on back-to-back days. The greatest moment in Cubs history, of course. But, this NLCS. After the Cubs ran away with Game 5 in LA, the realization began to set in that they were again on the doorstep. The next day was a Friday, and I went back and watch Theo's introductory press conference for shits and gigs. I was floored by how prophetic it all sounded. Game 6 was on a Saturday. It was a beautiful Fall afternoon in Chicago and there was a sense of anticipation that I think most would agree with. (The feeling before Game 7 of the WS was agony and nervousness - at least for me) From the moment Andrew Toles dropped the fly ball in center, there was just this feeling that the Cubs weren't going to lose. The rest of the game was unbelievably enjoyable. Yes of course, in the back of a Cubs fan's mind, there's always a negative thought floating around. But, there was never really a scare that night. Puig being the final out was sort of full circle for me. I was at a Cubs-Dodgers game in 2013 with a buddy when Puig had recently hit the scene and was the all the rage in the MLB. He had a big night and the Cubs lost like they did a lot from 2012-2014. It seemed like it was going to be forever before "The Plan" came to fruition. As he stepped up to the plate, I thought back to that night briefly. Fast-forward three years... It was simply a magical night.

@@lindseysummers5351 If it had ended at Wrigley it would have ended w the Indians winning it. The Wrigley rich people crowd (other than game 5) put too much pressure on the team and they couldn't perform. Plus Maddon only used Schwarber for one PH appearance in 3 Wrigley games.

  • @stephenkammerling9479

@@paultanner7671 If the Cubs had home field advantage in the World Series, and they would have if played under today's rules, I think they would have lost. Both teams seemed to be under more pressure at home because of long World Championship droughts. The Cubs won 3 out of 4 in Cleveland, while Indians won 2 out of 3 in Wrigley Field. 2016 was last season the result of All Star game determined which league champion had home field advantage in World Series. One surprising fact is that visiting team has won a slight majority of World Series game 7's. If you don't believe me, just look up world series game 7 results since first series in 1903. Last 4 World Series game 7's were won by visiting team(Nationals in 2019, Astros in 2017, CUBS in 2016, and Giants in 2014).

@@oldtimer794 My dad, who was a Cubs fan his whole life, died last year. But he had the chance to see this before his dementia started getting the better of him. As a White Sox fan, I am incredibly grateful that the Cubs were able to win the whole thing before Dad died. I remember after the 2005 World Series reading articles in the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times about fans going to the Chicagoland cemeteries and placing White Sox souvenirs on the tombstones of relatives who didn't get the chance to see a south side team win the whole thing. At the time, I was hoping that I wouldn't be doing this with the Cubs, and I'm thankful I did not have to do so. I wish your dad could have seen it. I really do. Even I was rooting for them. If you want to know the exact moment I knew that the cubs were going to win that world series, it was 1:21:15. Seeing Kershaw just collapse as that ball left the field, I realized that the Cubs were the best team in the playoffs that year. Kershaw is (and was) a fantastic pitcher, and knowing that he had been so utterly defeated by the Cubs' offense by his reaction to that swing gave me the feeling that the 2016 team had what it takes. The following week and a half were among the best of my life. Thank you very much for putting this broadcast on youtube.

This might have been one of the best things i've ever seen when it comes to sports even better then when the Cubs actually won the WS and i'm not even a Cubs fan. Just making the World Series was almost like winning it for these fans. Even Red Sox fans in their 86 year drought at least managed to go to the World Series a few times but most everyone in that stadium with the exception of the very old had never seen their team actually make it to the World Series. It's almost moving how in the final few innings the faces of the Cubs fans young and old went from nervousness thinking they were going to blow it again to tears when they realized what they thought would never happen in their lifetimes was actually going to happen.

You're right. I think everyone in America outside Cleveland and St. Louis was pulling HARD for the Cubs to win. There's been a lot of World Series droughts ended since 1995, but this was the big one. Cleveland had their own drought they were trying to overcome, but 68 years pales in comparison to 108 years with no World Series Championship.

My dad (who died in 2021), and a childhood friend of mine (who died in 2022) were both Cubs fans, and they got to see this after so many years of frustration and bad play. And i also have three other good friends who have been lifelong fans. I'm not a Cubs fan but i was genuinely happy for them when they finally won the whole thing. RIP Dad, and RIP Scot. Miss you guys. But you got to see it before you left.

I look back and can imagine if Joc was part of the Cubs team on that year (that's great chemistry that Anthony Rizzo and Joc have during their time as part of the Cubs and it's cool they are great friends). It would have been pretty cool...I am glad that he was part of the Cubs this year, but sad that he, Rizzo, Bryant and Baez were traded. It's a blessing Joc is part of the World Series...hence the reason for Joctober, and has been using Rizzo's bats! Hopefully, those two will be teammates again in the future!

Kershaw was not the invincible himself in this game. His curve ball did not work and limited him to essentially a fastball pitcher. Cubs took full advantage of that. I'm not a Dodger's fan, but it's hard to watch a Cy Young pitcher tortured defenselessly like this in the hostile Wrigley environment.

pliuworld Easy for me to watch Kershaw struggle with our lineup and our fans' mocking chants and waves.. Cubs dominated, pure and simple. Not a speck of sympathy for me. I delighted in the very well-rested Kershaw (5 days between appearances) getting smacked around. Guess only Cubs fans can understand my glee. I've seen enough bad baseball and heartbreaking losses to last a lifetime, literally, as I think of my grandparents and the Cubs greats never able to witness this. Screw your sympathy for Kershaw. Would've been as devastating if he won, as gleeful as it was watching him and Dodgers go down. I'm very tired of folks asserting Kershaw's off day as an implicit diminishment of the Cubs' accomplishments. Had we not got on him early, who knows what would've happened. He succumbed to weakness of some sort and Cubs didn't. "Not a Dodgers fan but. . . tortured defenselessly in hostile." Spare me this ridiculously sentimental portrayal of what happened. Jansen seemed to have no problem, btw. It was an awesome display of might by the Cubs that I will watch over and over again in unbridled ecstasy.

I am not a Cubs' fan, but my dad, who was 82 when this Series happened, has been a fan since he was 18. And I have several friends who live in the IL/WI area that are Cubs' fans as well. So for their sake, I was rooting for them to win. (For the record, I am a White Sox fan, and I don't give a damn if you want to mock and make fun of me for being one. Feel free if you wish, but you won't be acknowledged if you do) But given that I remember what happened with this team back in 1984 and 2003, even when the Cubs were leading in this game 5-0, I didn't start getting excited for them (and my dad/friends) until the last out of the 8th inning. Then I began to think, "Holy crap, this just might happen. No collapse this time. But I'm not holding my breath." But when that last DP was turned, I called my dad and told him just how happy I was for him that they made it. He was absolutely thrilled! Then when the Cubs won the whole kit and kaboddle several games later, I called him again and he was just about as happy as I could remember him being over a sports team. Not since 1985, when Da Bearsss won the whole thing, did I see or hear him like that. When the White Sox won the whole thing back in 2005, I remember reading an article in one of the Chicago papers (I think it was the Tribune but it could have been the Sun-Times) where it told the story of Sox fans going to the local cemeteries in the Chicagoland area and putting Sox souvenirs and other stuff on the tombstones of their parents, grandparents, and other relatives/friends who never got the chance to see the White Sox win the whole thing. It might have been the most touching article I read in the weeks after that season. I for one am so glad that I won't have to do that with my dad; he got the chance to see the Cubs win (he's still alive and hanging in there at 84, but his short-term memory is not very good and he just doesn't get around well). Folks, enjoy moments like this. You never know if you will ever see it again, and you never want to take anything for granted. I for one am happy for Cubs' fans that they got to see it, like I did with my White Sox. P.S. I apologize if I have already written this on this comment board, but it has been a while since I have been here. So like my father, I may be having a brain fart. Sorry about that.
