3:41 The official scoring rule for a batted ball hitting a baserunner should be changed. I do not understand why the batter should be credited with a base hit on a play that an out was instantly recorded; rather, that should be merely a fielder's choice ... what if a pitcher has a no-hitter going? That would really suck to lose a no-hitter on a batted ball that hit a runner.

10:59 - Not sure how this ended up getting called but, with only 1 out, the first baseman tagged the runner going to second, but never stepped on first base, nor tagged the runner coming to first base. Anyone know if the umpires ever caught this? Because the Phillies immediately leave the field as though they scored the double-play, but they did not in fact perform a double-play. They only had two outs when they left the field. Did the umpire incorrectly call an infield fly rule? The infield fly rule is only used on pop up hits, not line drives, and that was very definitely a line drive (the announcer even mentions that it was a line drive, right at the first baseman). *Rule 2.00* -- _“a fair fly ball _*_(not including a line drive or a bunt)_*_ which can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort...yada, yada, yada..."_ The infield fly rule DID NOT apply in this scenario.

  • @MaydayAggro

The umpires, if they didn’t catch it, will rule the batter out when he abandons running the bases. Depending on the age level or league rules (youth, hs, clg, pro) abandoning tuning the bases can be anything from ‘X feet away from the base path’, to reaching the dugout, etc. The MLB rule book doesn’t specify, it simply says ‘abandoning effort to run the bases’. So it’s umpire judgment which meets that criteria at MLB level.

2:30, Is that Angel Hernandez making the call? Whenever Angel Hernandez makes a call at the plate (or any base for that matter), the actual result is almost always the opposite of whatever Hernandez calls. I watched him make 6 or 7 close calls at (I think) first base once. Those 8 calls were the only calls challenged that day. Every single one of them was overturned. He wasn't correct even once whenever it was a close call. He's quite literally the WORST umpire currently in baseball. He's so bad at it that he makes Joe West look good. If you could clone him, I'd rather have four Joe Wests (behind the plate and calling every single bag), than have even one Angel Hernandez anywhere near the stadium, let alone umpiring a game.

Nah I thought that at first too. Then I went back and played the video at .25 the speed . It was pieces of the base ball cover that got sheered off due to the rotation and speed of impact. I really thought that was sparks too because there is a phenomenon that occurs with non metalic materials. They can impact something with such force that it does indeed cause sparks . But that ball would have to be traveling way faster for that to happen. But I too at first thought the same thing before I slowed the video down and zoomed in on it 😆.
