On a televised game from Candlestick Park, I saw Willie Mays running at full speed hopping over Bobby Bonds, planting his left foot into the chain linked fence in right center to rob a Dodger of a certain home run. I don’t like the Giants, but Willie Mays is my favorite center fielder of all time.

That's what I was thinking. Take Dontrelles team and take A-Rod out, put Jeter there. Hank Aaron in right, Pujols at first, Ruth at DH, keep Nolan as pitcher. Jeter and Nolan are because they're my personal favorites, A-Rod at short is arguably the best hitting SS of all time

I Love Your Hate oh I agree, he isn't the best ever, id consider him one of the best, if you include how dominate of a postseason player he was with 2 world series MVPs and a series he didn't win in which he pitched 3 starts in 68 including 2 fantastic starts and one good one, he once struck out 17 baters in the world series against Detroit. On top of his 11 fantastic regular seasons, accumulating over 3000 strikeouts, 250+ wins. I'd say the best ever would be Walter Johnson, or Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, Greg Maddux, Cy Young, Warren sphan.

There are so many players that would have to be in that line uo you are guaranteed to leave out a bunch. Especially in the oufield. Joe DiMaggio and Mickie Mantel aren't there either, nor is Ty Cobb's closest modern equivalent (except a MUCH nicer guy) Ichiro. Ichiro has the single season hits record, the all time hits record across top level professional baseball (Pete Rose wants to count the minors, in which case he barely edges out Ichiro, which is some BS there), and among the highest career averages in the modern era.

ty cobb has been my favorite since I was a kid. probably the best hitter of all time(for the age one plays in), not to mention an incredible base runner. problem, he was an absolutely terrible outfielder. sure, you could arguably put him at DH, but DHs are generally power hitters(though cobb's baserunning skills, high RBI and runs scored counts could potentially make up for it.)

If Mays had played at Yankee Stadium for the Yankees instead of Candlestick with the Giants, he'd have over 800 home runs.

I don't think anyone could argue that if it wasn't for injuries later in his career, Ken Griffey Jr would have finished with more than 700 HR and 2000 RBI. And he did it CLEAN! In my opinion, Griffey was the best player of all time. He was a true 5-tool player who excelled at every aspect of the game. And that swing........ No, he never won a championship but he played on some very mediocre teams in Seattle and some even worse clubs in Cincinnati. A truly a unique talent. Mike Trout is the closest thing we'll ever get to another Jr.

@Butch Jones Actually Mickey didn't even make Casey Stengel's all time team but it only because Casey said that he never put in as much work as what he thought he should have and that Mickey was actually a player of unrealized potential. Think about that... Mickey would make my team though just because the dude was a natural slugger. It might have been on the Ken Burns doc but somewhere I saw Mickey say that he had a conversation with Ted Williams at an all star game about hitting and tried to take a "scientific" approach to it like Ted did and wound up going like 0 for his next 30. LOL! He said after that he just had to go back to doing things the simple way and that's what worked for him. I'm 37 and never even came near actually watching him play but when I think baseball I always think Mickey Mantle. He's just a straight up legend.
