Great results! Did a couple rolling "tests" a few days ago with my buddy's stage 2 MK7.5 GTI vs my stock MK8 GTI and we were neck-neck. Conclusion: MK8 > MK7

I know! It’s incredible how quick they are from the factory. Huge improvement for only “15-20hp”

I check out these videos to see if making improvements is worth it or not and my stock mk7.5 is so far one of the best cars ℹ ever had almost as good as my mk2 audi tt vr6 manual transmission. Considering the golf r just because it’s in the middle of both the gti and tt 😊

I have both. Stock 20th 8r same spec as yours and a 18 7.5r eqt stage 2. The 7.5 is significantly faster than the stock mk8. The guy in the 7.5 must not have pulled his O2 or something else is wrong with his car... cool video though I'd like to see more about the blue mk7

exactly, I raced a stock MK8 R with my stage 2. FBO audi S3 8v.5 and a pulled on it by multiple bus lengths.

I have a stage 1 cupra st 300 (which is basically a golf 7.5R with different badge) and I smoke stock mk8 R.

The mk7.5 most likely needs new injectors and a good carbon cleaning of the valves. You'd be surprised how much power it robs especially in the top end.

Something ain’t right, I got a stock mk8 as well and raced a stage 2 eqt mk7.5 and he pulled on me every time, stage 2 eqt should be about 360-370hp compared to ours at 315hp. There’s no way a FBO stage 2 7.5 beats a stock mk8, if the mk8 was stage 1, then yea you’ll pull every time

This is a really weird result lol, it’s an OTS tune so very rare there would be something up with his tune. You gotta get your car on a dyno and see what the results are, because this car is definitely not at 315hp if you pulling away like that

Often times these tuning companies claim extremely high, best case scenario numbers. I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re putting around the same whp on a dyno.

Some do, but I’ve seen independent dyno results and they are close to eqt numbers, varies with temp, mods, etc. These conti turbos on our mk8s have more room for power than the 7.5, but a proper stage 2 fbo 7.5 will put down higher numbers than a stock mk8. Either way, your car is moving lol, keep up the content

MK8 R makes about 330-335 HP actually. They put down like 305 AWHP. My friend has S3 with stage 2 EQT on 93 octane with same bolt ons and ran a 11.9 at 113 mph and I ran a 12.4 at 110 mph all stock in my MK8 R so yea if the MK7.5 was on 93 it would have pulled on him

Something wrong, the 7.5 stage 2 should be a high 11 second car. Should've done some dig races with a dragy. That is a high 12 to low 13 second car stock. 😳

@JVette01 it's kinda weird because you hear about MK7.5's being really close to MK8's in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, then you watch the carwow video where the MK8 destroys a MK7.5. These cars are very quick stock, but I still want to tune my car. Since the TCU tune isn't available yet, I'll wait. Thanks for the great content. Keep it coming and be safe out there. 😎

I would agree with u the mk8 makes 300whp -310whp stock that golf r with the tune should be pushing more power than that but idk maybe the fuel isn’t good enough and pulling timing back but I feel like that mk7.5 should be faster than that either way 🔥vid

In europe the mk8 R make 355hp and 455 torque stock no tune this is the real power he make and the golf mk7.5 R in stage 2 make 365 hp and 493 torque no much different here maybe in usa it's different and the mk8 r have the biggest turbo.

Respect to EQT tune one of the best tuner..but that Golf R Mk8 obviously underrated engine 💪 you gave a hard time to tuned mk 7.5 GOLF R..😂good race

those are the results I would expect stock vs stock, not stage 2 vs stock mk8. I suspect something is wrong with the stage 2 car

Going from a Stage 4 MK2 Focus RS to a stage 1 high torgue Golf R, ive always found the R to be a bit 'gutless' at the top end. But its not what the Golf R is about. What would be the point of gearing a hot hatch to be its quickest at 100+. The Golf R is about being a great everyday all rounder that great at everyday speeds. Thanks for making the video, but it could of at least done a spread of roll-ons from different speeds and used someone that understands how to start a run!

That was a great match up. Wish the MK7.5 owner was a bit better with reacting to the 3 honks go but seems like you get a clean walk on him. Try one of the line next time maybe

@@JVette01 Yea it’s hard to get it all set up on the street. My friend has a stage 2 EQT on 93 octane and he ran a 11.9 at 113 mph and I ran the 12.4 at 110 mph. I guess the 93 octane tune helps? Also there is sensor that should be unplugged on the MK7.5 platform as it thinks the car is running rich and pulls some timing or boost. Forgot what exactly it is but EQT is working on a proper solution. It will make the car run slower over time if not unplugged so that maybe explains the results also

Dude in the MK7.5 needs to remove that intake asap. The OG APR intake is absolutely trash. Their newer open air model flows better but I’d honestly go IE, Racingline, or Blaze performance

Yours is a R 20 years which has some small tweaks over normal R. I want one but don’t think they worth twice the price of 7.5 R. A good spec is 55K £ 🙃

It’s worth it over 7.5R for sure. Stock performance is so much better. However, I understand if you have a certain budget.

There’s still driver error involved with dsg transmissions. Y’all don’t like to believe it but the trans in sport will shift more optimally than you would messing with the paddles. Lol. I’ve seen plenty of people shifting on their own, do just as bad as folks with 6mt’s. 🤣🤷🏽‍♂️

@@JVette01 Great video showing how impressive the MK8 platform is in stock form though. I had a MK7 and a MK7.5 R. The 7 was 6mt and the 7.5 was DSG. Both were FBO stage 2. I can only imagine how much faster the MK8 feels with comparable mods/tune.

@@JVette01 It's taking everything in me NOT to tune my GTI. It barely has 500 miles and I've already done a Milltek TBE, so it's ready for stage 2....but I'm going to wait and see what EQT is planning to do with this platform. My 7.5 R was EQT tuned and it was quick!

Had a APR stage 2 Audi S3 with no upgraded intercooler or TCU tune and it was smoke my 2024 Golf R. Something isnt right with his car or else his tune is not the best 🤷

That's funny. At one point the other guy seemed clueless of what to hear and wait for with the honks. Seems like he only understood hand signals. Either way, I think that is incredibly impressive for a stock MK8R to pull on the Stage 2 MK7.5R. If I owned an older generation and put stage 2 money in it, I would have expected to rip on a stock MK8R to be honest, and I would have been really bummed about the outcome.

I agree. Sometimes with aftermarket tunes, the power is very conditional and doesn’t perform likes it’s supposed to 100% of the time

My 2016 mk7 6spd dsg apr stage 2 made 11.9 sec quarter mile. Assuming mk8 stage 1 will be faster. Mk8 has a bigger stock turbocharger and all better fuelling system etc.

ahh man, is it limited to 150 that sucks, hope its just the tires, these can go lot faster than that with the right tires, when he got the jump it was even, still the mk8 id say is better stock

@JVette01 very odd, I would say maybe it would be limited to 155 or 164 since that's what Germans do ,but to have it limited at 150 Is very weird, I know these things can easily push 165 maybe even little bit more i think the claimed top speed is 168 , you can tell it wants to keep pulling past 150, such an amazing car, ehh whatever, I'm sure a tune will solve that since i think you can get the limiter removed ,I could be wrong tho.

After doing some research online, a stage 2 mk7 golf r traps similar to a stock mk8 so it’s not that unbelievable. However, from a dig, modified mk7 does better.

No way a stage 2 mk7.5. Like stock tune with an exhaust. A true stage 2 mk7.5 would have smoked the mk8 no question.

It all depends on who is driving the car. Looks like the guy in mk7.5 can’t drive a DSG. A stage 2 MK7.5 should do mid 3’s 0-100 and around 11.96 1/4 mile. A stock mk8 is no where near that time spec.

Mk7 owner “it’s probably faster”….cue sad song on a small violin. Jokes aside crazy that a Mk8 GTI stage 2 is faster than stage 2 7.5 Golf R based on this result, because I walk away from a stock 8R in my 8GTI Stg 2…wild times. From a dig tho I’d obviously get that sad song 😅
