Mk7 Ford Fiesta Boot Leak Repair - Update Final

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Having recently discovered water leaking into the boot and pooling in the spare wheel well of my Fiesta I have been trying to diagnose where it's coming from.
It's taken a while and several areas to check and correct but here I go through what i've done so far and what solved it.

    This is a fantastic video, I followed this and fixed my water leak, very much appreciated. No water, no leaks noticed now with the serve rain we have had recently in Feb ’24. I followed this video and managed to stop all the water slipping into my Ford Fiesta Mk7 59 plate. The boot had water in it and it had also gone into the rear passenger carpets footwells. Took a while to dry out. I think my water leak was coming from the two holes that are just covered up by tape, these are located behind the rear bumper, very poor design from Ford and also wear the main body meets the rear boot panel, just below the roof gutter as per the video. I sealed the joints at the top between the main body and rear panels, Changed both rear vents for brand new ones from Ford (approx. £20.00 each) and sealed the outer side of them with Tigerseal (purchased from Halfords - this is a great product, very flexible and rock solid) Removed the old tape that was covering the two holes on either side of the rear bumper (tape was coming off and the holes were exposed) - used body filler and spray sealant to make this a permanent closure, sealed around the various grommets around the light fittings. Ford Air Inlet vent part number: 4858452 I used the following products, purchased from Halfords Gorilla Tape Black Extra Strong ISOPN Body Filler P.40 with hardener Davids ISOPON Aluminium Mesh Halfords Anti-rust Primer Grey Tigerseal Black 310ml - this is so good and extremely strong/flexible, highly recommend Thank you again for this great video.

    @@chrisgerb6823 hey Chris, we had to slowly prise them up bit by bit without bending them. In hindsight we only needed to prise up a couple of cm as the leak was right at the front, you could see it even without lifting the strips. Not sure how we stuck them down again, probably with some RTV

    Bought the same model fiesta today , and saw that the owner had done the repair in the same area at the top with silicone. Googled it and this vid popped up. We bought the car. Will need to remove the boot panels properly to check . Thanks for your effort putting these vids together. Well executed

    I had the very same issue, and the drivers side too (2014 fiesta zetec 1.25). I had the bumper removed and sealed up same as you and also had a small hole which had appear along a body join 👀. Sealed too. Water was still getting in although small amounts. Removed rear lights and sealed them same as you and the joins around the tailgate roof they were sealed too (previously). Let see what happens now. 👀

    Do you 'glue' the seal of the taillights to the body with the silicone, or do you let te silicone cure to make another layer of seal?

  • @spidiq8

    @spidiq8

    I tried 'gluing' the seal in place so it would create a watertight seal. However it didn't work and I replaced the seals with new.

    Thanks for the info. The sealing problem with the old ones was definitely due to deformity over time though I think. The new ones are holding up though I'll keep checking them for a while yet. Sadly this seems a very common problem with both Fiestas and Focuses of this model type.

    14:15 the seals, did you glue the new seals on? Also did you glue the two ends together before fitting?

  • @spidiq8

    @spidiq8

    5 ай бұрын

    Fitted on and the gap sealed with silicone so not glued with glue but yes. the ends sealed after fitting and started and finished at the bottom of the lights as that's the area most likely to weep water in.

    as @@spidiq8 points to, Julie you could try under the roof gutter strips - I’m just fixing a leak that’s been flooding my boot and my rear passenger footwell (and into the front footwell!)! Vacuumed out over 3L of water today. They just peeled off with some brute force, and I found cracks under them on both sides - sealing with silicone and taping them before reattaching, and hoping for the best. Not such a fan of my mobile mini-ice rink in the cold! Thanks so much for your videos @spidiq8 - you, along with other similarly leaky Tubers, have empowered me to tackle my moist-mobile.

    No disrespect mate, but you don’t half waffle on, try and get to the point a bit more. Dont put sealant on the rubber seal for the rear lights, you want to be able to remove the light cluster at a later date to change bulbs. Don’t use household silicon either, use tiger seal or all weather sealant.
