Mk4 2.0 before and after TT header/test pipe

Skip to 3:16 to go straight to header sound.
Forgive the lengthy second video and my now crooked exhaust pipe (forgot to see where it was before we put it back on the ground). Spilled some coolant on the header and it burned off during the first start, hence the conversation haha.
Mk4 'BEV' code 2.0L 8v (2005 model year)
Techtonics Tuning .260 camshaft
GIAC Stage 1+ ECU flash
Neuspeed P-Flo short ram intake
Magnaflow 2-1/4" stainless cat back (resonator and muffler installed)
2nd video- additions:
Techtonics Tuning 4 to 1 long tube header, 8 bolt
Techtonics Tuning test pipe (catalytic converter delete) w/ 02 spacer
SAI unhooked soon to be deleted

    I really love the exhaust note on the first clip and was looking for a similar sound from my 2.0 (same year). Is there any other way, that you know of, I could achieve this sound without purchasing a $430 cat-back system, and if not do you remember the part number?

  • @TalibanWarlord

    If you look at the playlist this video is in, the very oldest one I mention the specific part number to this catback. Techtonics tuning is a great alternative and you pick your muffler. Well it boils down to what mufflers, really. If you choose no resonator, different sound. I think brand of muffler doesn't make a difference but some people swear it does. So those are your differentiating points. Go buy 2-1/4" ID piping and fabricate your own exhaust. You're paying $400 to be able to bolt it up in a few hours as opposed to fabricating the hell out of it. Cheap eBay exhausts will likely be of cheap eBay quality, buy at your own risk

    I have a 2001 MK4 Jetta with the 2.0 AZG engine. I’m thinking same setup as yours naturally aspirated 2.0, just slightly older. Had some questions on these TT header. Does it delete the cat? Or bolt into the stock Cat with a 4 bolt flange? I’m just looking to see if these headers end at the cat or go straight into the exhaust system. Also do they have spots for both 02 sensors regardless? I realize this is 3 years old, but just a thought. Thank you.

  • @TalibanWarlord

    Yes and no it deletes the cat-- you cannot use the factory cat/downpipe thing with this not without cutting and fabrication. TT sells a test pipe and I thought hi flow cats to bolt up to this. The stock cat on the downpipe bolts to the exhaust manifold and it's those two pieces is what the TT header replaces. There is a pre cat 02 sensor port at the collector at the end of the header. What you do in terms of test pipe or cat is going to dictate your post cat 02 sensor need or availability

    @TalibanWarlord thanks so much for your help! That clears up a lot of questions I had before buying this product. So since it deletes the Cat, did you get a P0420 code on your check engine light? Seems like it’s a common code on these cars. May just have to get it re tuned for the Cat delete after as well.

  • @TalibanWarlord

    @@RaudiRaul nope. I had P0420 a long time ago for a cat that went bad. I had a rear 02 sensor die after doing this though that threw rear 02 codes, not 0420 though. You can have a tuner code out the rear 02 if you want (my goal)

    Did nothing with em because there's nothing to do with them They're not connected to exhaust as far as I know. The SAI pump goes into a tube under the stock manifold. It pressurizes which heats up and heads up the exhaust pipes above it. If anything pumps into the engine nobody told me and there was no evidence of an exhaust leak after this install. Early engines? No idea. This was an 05

    Noticeable difference with the 260 cam? Any loss of tq? Ever pop a CEL due to the cam?

  • @TalibanWarlord

    @TalibanWarlord

    7 жыл бұрын

    Yes, maybe, and no. Stock is .212 spec. The power band starts around, what, 1500rpm and goes until 4-5k? The money band seemed to be above 1800 and below 4k to me. .260 shifts that to around 3k to redline. Below that is still usable, but you probably won't be lugging your way up a hill at those revs with a cammed 8v. Unless you go for adjustable cam gears and timing (I have not done that), you can shift that power band wherever you want. Loss of tq at bottom end revs yes. Gain of torque/butt dyno above 3k. No really. As this is now, 3-3500rpm is where I "crack VTEC" and my cam timing starts waking up. Night and day difference over stock. Nope. I've had this cam installed since fall of 2011. Same cam, same engine, same almost everything (until header in July 2015). I started popping codes for cam position sensor, along with the occasional strange idle a few years ago but it hasn't done it again in quite some time. If that's related to camshaft, 5 years later, I'll be damned. Pretty sure it's the position sensor failing. I have permanent CEL for rear 02 failure though.

    TalibanWarlord Gotcha. Thanks for the reply man. Trying to get out of my unreliable highly modified 1.8T and get into a mk4 2.0 wagon. I've built MK3 2.0s, but heard all of this CEL nonsense while caming the MK4s so I was curious of your experience. And I ask about the torque loss because I probably wouldn't go crazy into porting the head etc to make a higher power band worth wild. If I can keep a decent low end and add some mid-high to putt around town and not make me so bored then the 260 sounds like a good cam for that. Thanks again

    I did, yes. I always meant to install a flex pipe between that collector and the first exhaust hanger, but never did. It's no doubt the issue. The vibrations from the engine are not cohabitating with the exhaust hanger, losing the flex pipe is where the cohabitation was lost.

    Nicholas Jackman you need tall Jack stands BBW probably will not accept the header. You have an extra 02 sensor (can't remember if it's up/down stream) but with this you won't find a BBW compatible cat that will bolt onto the header. Unless you cut and weld a stock one.

    Nicholas Jackman takes a swivel socket and pliers to get spark plugs done, at the least. Have a friend who had a BBW and did intake and catback. Pretty much all you can do. Then his fuel pump went out and you can't even buy them at the dealer anymore. He solved his problems with the BBW by ripping out that engine and putting a 1.8T in it's place. Abandon all hope of doing any more mods than intake and exhaust. I guess you could swap the transmission to make the gear ratios better but imho if you wanna mod don't mod that car. You will thank me later if you're new to a BBW/VW

  • @TalibanWarlord

    @TalibanWarlord

    @@SlowSTEN nope, this replaces the log manifold and flexpipe by itself, you do not slip fit a cat back exhaust directly to the manifold, you slip fit it past the cat. The stock catalytic converter is a separate piece. This does not come with a flex pipe and you would be wise to install one. You will need either a test pipe or one of the catalytic converters TT sells that is supposedly a direct fit for this header, and they also sell flex pipes Go figure, these are "race" components and you have to think creatively vs "bolt on and fit like it left the factory like this" and so you might be wise to consult TT directly about fitment ideas and or your local exhaust shop.
