Great video and very informative 🙏🏻 I’m getting rid of my Pierburg too as it’s never really worked for me. Keeps cutting off when warm and now the car won’t start anymore. Carb is just spitting fuel all over the place. Mine is a 16 AUTO also. Where did you find the Weber for the auto? 🤞🏻

If I remember correctly, I bought the kit on eBay. The pierburg is good when it works but it is very complex. There are people who rebuild them though.
Great work. I hope I never have to take the manifold off mine!! I was wondering if a set of Allen headed sockets might have made it an easier job?

Thanks. I don't think the sockets would help really. I do have some but the ball end Allen keys worked alright in the end.
When you throttled up the second time at 1:01:53 I noticed a puff of vapour coming from the offside manifold area, inlet manifold gasket maybe? Play it at 0.25 speed you may see it

Thanks! Yeah I just saw that on the playback there too. Well spotted. It may well be an exhaust manifold leak. I'll check that out.
Hey Endfloat, I find myself rewatching this video everytime it gets recommended to me by KZread. It's so informative, I've learned a lot. I think when the weather starts behaving it'd be a good idea for me to check out the whole carb and inlet manifold as well. Just a quick question, would you know where one could get different jets for the weber carb? I'm having a hard time finding it out as a beginner who doesn't know a lot about carbs. Ever since I converted to my weber my spark plugs are always carbon fouled indicating richness but anytime I lean it out with the mixture screw the car starts running like crap so I think I might need to change up my jets a bit. I'm also running a K&N open air filter which may give the engine a bit more air than it's used to.

Glad my video helped! Try carbparts.eu for the jets, or eurocarb. If you're anywhere near Northern Ireland, get the car to Ben Lawrence and have him tune it up. Then you know it'll be right.

@@Endfloat I'm in the Netherlands, don't think my Golf will survive the swim sadly... I recently inquired for a carb tune at a classic car restorer near me, they asked over €600... bit pricey for me at the moment since the car runs more or less fine for daily driving, it just really feels like it's not giving its all if you know what I mean. I'll try checking those websites, thanks a bunch!

@@1600GL I think that carbparts place I suggested is actually in the Netherlands! Before you go rejetting your carb, make sure your timing is right and there's nothing wrong mechanically.
Great video, really in depth. I have the same problem with my T25, I’ve put in twin Webber on a 1.9 wbx and it coughs and splutters under load, fine idling on the driveway. Any idea?

Sounds like a jetting issue for you. You might need to come up a couple of sizes.

That could be the spark plugs or leads breaking down try taking one of the leads off each of the plugs when it’s on tick over to see if it drops in power

See if the butterfly is sicking or is the idel screw to far in I think it should be screwed right in and backed off 1 and a half turns and finally check if the diaphragm hasn’t got a hole in it
Great video, don't have any of these problems myself but still enjoyed watching it through haha. Got a question for you (unrelated to the vid) that maybe you'd know the answer to. I have the same engine and Weber, just got the manual instead of the auto. It drives great, accelerates well and cruising with it is amazing, but when I accelerate really fast (floor the gas pedal) it sputters a bit. When I accelerate more slowly there's no issue at all, it can handle the RPMs but just seems that the sudden increase is too much. Could running the carb a little too rich cause this do you think? Like I said it drives great so I haven't touched the mixture screw after getting it to run nicely, don't have the gas meter to measure CO myself. Would appreciate your thoughts on this! MPG in basically start-stop traffic is about 28, around 36 on the highway.

One of my followers mentioned that they filed a bit off the cam that operates the accelerator pump which sorted this issue out. I want to try it myself cause mine has this issue too. It bogs down when I go to accelerate hard.

@@Endfloat Oh wow okay, that sounds a little above my level of expertise at this moment, but if you ever do this I'd be very much looking forward to a video of that as well if it's not too much trouble! It's not a real issue which is why I haven't really tried to do anything about it, but it's one of those things that makes you think "hmm it's still not 100% right...."
Nice video. What is the fuel pressure of the fuel pump?

I haven't a clue. Still running the stock fuel pump. I'd imagine it's around 3 bar.
hello, what jets are on air and on fuel, on chambers 1 and 2?

I think they're 157 but off hand I can't remember.
I realised recently why the average classic car owner is going to find car maintenance hugely more difficult, expensive and time consuming with a front wheel drive car vs a rear wheel drive. Stick to the likes of your MGB Endfloat.

@@smashyrashy As can be seen from the video access to some of the important components are much more difficult to get at than where engine and gearbox are forward facing.

I would have thought electrical components (especially those with microprocessors in) would be much more likely to be an issue maintaining more modern classics than engine access. There's always a way to get at components in tight spaces.

@@StewSims There's not microprocessors in classic (pre-80s ) cars, just basic electrics.
